Made an excursion to Bakkie. There is a beautiful garden. During the tour we were informed about medicinal plants, etc. The museum is one room in size. There is little to see except some old writings. The colorful stories and anecdotes about the past make it fascinating. We had a delicious meal. But the long travel time there and back means that we found this excursion to be one of the least of our trip through Suriname

(Translated by Google) Beautiful place, with a very special story. If you get the chance to visit Suriname, definitely put a visit to plantation Bakkie on your to do list. A place that has been built with a lot of love! (Original) Prachtige plek, met een zeer bijzonder verhaal. What enthusiastic people Bas and Marcia are who have worked hard to turn a very dilapidated place into something very beautiful. You will be warmly welcomed upon arrival with an ice tea from Marva. They try to live with local products as much as possible and provide the guests with it, so no Coca Cola or Fernandes ice cream or the like. If you stay for dinner you will get a fantastic meal: ours was made with trapon fish, delicious. In the museum, Bas talks very enthusiastically about the history and also about how he acquired all kinds of items on the second-hand market and from elsewhere. He himself is a walking museum in itself. A big disappointment for us was that there were a lot of mosquitoes. I therefore advise everyone to inform in advance whether there is a mosquito plague at that moment and to protect yourself. As a result, we couldn't really go for a walk in the garden and Plantation. We left with the boat from Leonsberg and had to sail for at least 2 hours and that is a long time. For the boat trip I would advise departing from Katwijk or Mariënburg. Perfectly organized all-inclusive day trip with a group of 8 people to the Bakkie plantation. From pick-up at our hotel to drop-off, Jacqueline, the tour guide, was a knowledgeable lady with spirit, who had a good grasp of the history of slavery. Immediately after driving away, the information session starts. That took some getting used to, but afterwards I was very happy with the information received and the brain was used to receiving the information. The welcome at the plantation by Bas and Marsha was really cordial and warm. They explained very passionately how they have made the Bakkie plantation accessible again, little by little. The finds displayed in the museum were very impressive and the story that Bas told made it even more interesting. Hats off to them for how they managed to do this. Then there is also a garden with all kinds of different trees and medicinal plants through which we were guided by Jacqueline. Then we had lunch prepared by Marsha. It was really delicious. This tour is highly recommended.

What a wonderful experience we had on the tour of the Bakkie plantation. Masha and Bas work hard to make something really beautiful. Masha gave a very extensive tour of the garden and Bas told us a lot about the history, slavery and Masha's ancestors. They are both people who passionately restore the Bakkie plantation. Beautiful to see. The boat trip there was also very beautiful and the food Masha served was delicious. Had a super interesting and fun day!

Great place! Bas showed us around his unique museum: masterpieces that he collected himself and together show different facets of Suriname. Nature, slavery past, WWII. He has extensive background information. Then there was a delicious lunch in a beautiful replica of the plantation shed. Marsha then showed us around the garden and let us smell and taste everything. She has an enormous knowledge of the flora and fauna of Suriname, and she conveys it enthusiastically. Son Alex is a gifted boatswain who got us there and back safely. The Warappa creek is still on the list for next time. These three people have created a gem here, in a remote and authentic place! We went there via Frederiksdorp, but it is better to do business directly with Bas.

(Translated by Google) Nice to see that so much has been restored, the garden is also definitely worth a look! But keep your mosquito incense in the boat well. (Original) Mooi om te zien dat er zoveel is hersteld, de tuin is ook zeker de moeite waard om goed te bekijken! Maar houd je mosquito wierook in de boot goed aan.

(Translated by Google) A super interesting small cozy museum, where a personal story is told and the past comes to life and appeals to the imagination, all in the middle of the beautiful nature on the river. (Original) Een super interessant klein knus museum, waar een persoonlijk verhaal wordt verteld en het verleden tot leven komt en tot de verbeelding spreekt, alles midden in de wonderschone natuur aan de rivier.

(Translated by Google) Interesting experience. Enthusiastic owner and tour guide. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time for the whole tour. It's a bit of sailing. (Original) Interessante ervaring. Enthousiaste eigenaar en rondleiding. Helaas hadden wij wat te weinig tijd voor de hele tour. Het is wel een eindje varen.

The place is beautiful but it's beauty is offset by how dilapidated The Village is..
