The small village of Domburg is a former plantation where Sugar and Coffee was produced. It is just like New York of 1600 with streets numbered like 1st , second street, 3th street and so on. These days Domburg is inhabited by mostly descendants of Javanese and east Indian origin. and a minority of African descendants. The old village square with its century old Mahogany trees and beard-moss is right next to the Suriname river. The village is a popular location for small world sailing ships who wants to anchor for a while during the hurricane season in the Caribbean. On Sundays the local market is attracting a lot of public for their Javanese specialty dishes. A great place to stay overnight is a guesthouse on the and of the 9th street called Little Paradise with friendly and helpful owners. Or otherwise Surinat resort on the 5th street. From Domburg waterside you can take a 15 minute boat ride in a traditional Tent-boat to the former plantation Laarwijk across the river.

Super harbour resort, to relax after a long sailing time. Very economic, and a very friendly reception. Really worth going 15 miles upwards the suriname river. Good ambience, food, swimming pool, and three supermarkets at walking distance. Only moorings or at anchor.

Nice small stalls where you can buy tasty lunches and snacks. Come early so you can hang out in one of the verandas. Book a your with the boat to the other side.

Nice cosy place for a relaxed morning or afternoon, plenty of places to grab a bite or drinks. View of the river is somewhat restricted after construction of an anti flooding wall. Almost completely paved which to me is not necessarily an improvement- it lost some of its charm with that.

I’m pretty biased, various restaurants mostly Javanese food. One is open in the evenings with a swimming pool and serves an international menu.
