Delicious! Portion size is satisfactory-large. Waiters and waitresses are also very friendly and kind giving us a cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
This is one of the coolest and most atmospheric places in Suva for sure. Now under new management and rebranded as “My Kai” it offers the most innovative fusion food experiences in Fiji’s capital while preserving the link to the history of this amazing colonial era building. Highly recommend!
Wonderful place, I had the Kokoda and an Hamburger with chips. The Kokoda was excellent, the meat in the Hamburger, more than well done, it was crisp.. Coffee and drinks without alkohol was good. Atmosphere in the place is very nice relaxing, like one wrote before, a little like a Museum and a lot like a Club, good furniture, solid wood. Without many people for Lunch. Probably above the price level of Suva but definitely also better rooms.
Overall, food bad, service okay, garnish bad. VERY OVERPRICED. NOT RECOMMENDED. First of all, the female staff were really kind and professional. On the other hand, one male staff who'd been working at that location for a long time needed staff training - felt a bit of racism, irresponsibpe and lacked professionalism. Our food was service first and we had to ask for our cuterlies, was asked to leave before a certain time (even before we ordered) because the table was reserved - there were seats available outside - and I had to ask 3 times for our water to be served. Second of all, the food was VERY DISAPPOINTING. I had ordered: - Lemongrass Spatchcook Chicken: It was served with salad - which tasted like food waste - and chicken which was very dry and had no sauce (I want to know why they used the word Lemongrass in the menu, cause I couldn't taste it). Personally, I thought the roasted chicken from Newworlds tasted better. - Heavenly Beef: This was just Chopsuey. Very Average. - Valolo Fish of the Day: I personally thought this was the best of thw menus we'd ordered. Fish was tender, sauce tasted nice, too. - Nasigoreng (Fried Rice): This was bad. Not even average - I don't understand how anyone could fail to make fried rice - especially at a renowned restaurant. When I was having the meal I had thought that somewhere in the middle of cooking the food, the chef had skipped a step in the receipe - that this taste was a mistake. However, when I had asked if the main chef, Lance Steeto was in the kitchen, the server told me that he was in there checking and putting all the food together. So, he is aware of how the food tastes.... hmmmmmm.......
Kanu Gastropub has a great ambiance. It sometimes feels like you're in a museum as you can see old photos of Fiji as well as posters of movies that were filmed in the country. In terms of food, they are a hit and miss. When the chef is at their game, the food is truly great and one-of-a-kind. The Suva Benedict is a must try! But sometimes too, they food is just blah. Their menu recently changed, which I think is for the better. The cost of the food is a tad pricier compared to other restaurants in the city. Service is also sometimes a hit and miss, with the servers at times becoming inattentive, especially when the restaurant is full. I appreciate the fact that they're one of the few restaurants open in Suva past 9pm. Overall, Kanu is a good experience, though, and a restaurant you should try when in Suva.
We visited this restaurant back when it had the original owners and called the governors. Kanu restaurant has kept the original theme which is great with rich photos and information of the history of the house and Fiji. Upon arrival to Kanu we were greeted with a friendly welcome and our waiter was just a delight, very professional, polite and great sense of humour. We ordered and the food was delicious , tasty and well cooked. The only downside was that we were a group of three and 1 of our mains didn’t come out till 10 minutes after we received the other two. The waiter was very apologetic and as 2 of us work in hospitality we could see how busy the restaurant was and were happy to wait as we can understand the pressures of a kitchen on a busy night. But credit to our waiter. The food was priced well for the portion sizes and the flavours were the best we have had in Fiji yet. They also have a Nadi location that we are also keen to try out also. Be sure to book to ensure you get a table. Well worth a visit for a beautiful meal and to read some of the rich history of Fiji. Highly recommend.
We waited until the opening rush had finished to try this timeless building revamped by Lance Seeto. Big thumbs up for keeping the loveable ambiance of quirky history that the previous Restaurant had and the Staff were helpful and charming as always. As a vegetarian I must say I was disappointed in the vegetarian breakfast choices. I had Suva Eggs Benedict and while the Panko fried poached eggs were clever and excellent, the sauce on side ( thumbs up) resembled melted butter and was bland. I longed for a quirky tomato salsa or something else other then a small half a sad tomato to cheer up the elevated “eggs on bread”. My husband however raved about the Laksa and the stock was really excellent. Our friend had eggs and fish, once again protein heavy and needed some vegetable friends. (Watch the pungent smell of fish lingering afterwards in the restaurant). Visually everything was very pretty and some clever ideas. The coffee ( thank you Adrian!) and kombucha was excellent. I look forward to trying their lunch or dinner menu definitely where their star may shine slightly brighter. At the moment for a healthy breakfast choice range there are others around town that perhaps suit me better. Big thumbs up for the latte art !
Decent food and ambiance, even though the building is aged Decor matches it. Service although good could be better.
