Parking available, fees is $5 for adults and $2 for children. It is quite spacious and is air-conditioned. The views outside are great for photos. There is a gift shop and coffee also available.

Well organised small museum. Worth a visit. Entry is 5 Fiji dollars. Gives good idea about Fijian history and way of living in ancient times.

Was a hot humid day! As we walked thru the park to the museum we loved looking at all the different flowers. Lovely to see an Indian couple having their wedding photos taken there. Perfect location to compliment her beauty. Lots of fruit bats in the garden chatting away. Museum itself was excellent. Great Cafe attached. Interesting and well explained exhibits. Aircon which was an added blessing. Well worth the walk/visit.

The Fiji Museum Suva is CLOSED. Don't believe what you see on Google, they are refurbishing and have been for some time. My wife and I drove 2 hours to Suva and got drenched in the rain trying to visit the place on 24/3/22 only for a very nice young man in the office to apologise and tell us they would reopen 'soon'. Gave it 3 stars because he offered us tea :)

Interesting stop set in a lovely garden. Here, you can learn about Fijian customs and culture. There is a small gift shop and a cafe on site.

Small but a nice place to visit when visiting Suva. Takes you back in time and tells you a beautiful story about Fiji's history. You can complete the tour of the whole place in a few hours. The artifacts are well kept and detailed explanations of everything. Good for a nice family outing in a rainy day.

Interesting small museum that presents the history and culture of Fiji from discovery to English colonization and present day. The artifacts are diverse, including pieces of the HMS Bounty. My only disappointment was the lighting which made reading the descriptions of the artifacts difficult. Adjoining the museum is a wonderful coffee shop with seating on a porch overlooking Thurston Gardens with beautiful mature tropical trees. It’s more an arboretum than garden, but never the less worth spending time walking the grounds.

Beautiful, modern and more interactive with videos playing, historical and contemporary artefacts and issues displayed. Relevant and thought provoking and I commend the museum on decolonizing their spaces and exhibition. Lovely and helpful staff and better opening hours to suit all citizens and any age. The aircon is such a great reprieve from the Suva Heat along with a great museum gifts giftshop and ginger Cafe outside.

It's great for Fiji. Pretty small with some updated (2023) exhibits. Pretty dark inside so it is rather difficult to read the placards on the exhibits. Nice gift shop and a good coffee bar. Grounds outside have bats in the trees.

Although small the museum has quite a bit to offer. One of the interesting items are the soles of the Pastor in the 1840 who was eaten by cannibals. If you are in Suva make a point to go and visit. It's worth it.

The museum has a collection of archaeological material dating back to 3700 years. Fiji being a multicultural country, I loved the fact that it not only had Fijian artifacts but also Chinese, Indian and different Pacific Island. I've always heard about Fiji's History but seeing it is different; I got to learn about how the ancestors made everyday objects.

Ticket entrance 10$ for adults. A lot of exposition, information about culture first people's on the Fiji. Flora and fauna. Locals boats, tools, part of life. Also have gift shop with souvenirs. Big part of park at that location. Enjoy your time for 1 or 2 hours there.

Fiji museum is unique and contains of histories of Fiji and others within South Pacific. They also have small souvenir shop and good books. Furthermore, a litle coffee shop is hidden in this lovely space in Suva.

Wonderful place, we drove to Suva just to see this. We enjoyed the Fijian history. It's a small but nicely laid out museum. Beautiful park next to it and you can have a quick sandwich and smoothie lunch right at the museum.

This is a must-visit when in Suva, the Fiji capital. The leading exhibition gives visitors an idea about the incredible journey the first colonies made to explore and settle in some of the more than 300 Fiji islands. There is also a fascinating section about the immigration of many Indian nationals, who worked under harsh conditions under British schemes to procure the continued supply of sugar and other commodities to Europe after the abolition of slavery in the British colonies.

1 hour walk through. Wished the font were allot bigger and at eye level as most of the signs require squatting. I liked the timeline of the British empire and abolishment of slaves*. Was hoping for more charts of different tribes/villages and their practices. The gift shop has more books/info than the museum.

Old and outdated building and exhibition. A few interesting artifacts. If you've missed it during your visit don't regret it. If you get a chance to come by for a quick visit you could potentially support the museum's future.

Interesting look at Fiji culture. Bonus art show the day we went. Surrounded by beautiful gardens. Highlight was the restored boats and the cannibal stories. Interesting drive around the area too with Parliament House, embassies and the Suva market just up the road, cafe at the museum was great too! We had a hire car and was worth a look.

Excellent museum in the heart of Suva, with a full size Fijian drua (catamaran style water vessel) on display. Lots of interesting ancient and modern exhibits explained with insightful histories. Entry fee is minimal and photography is welcomed. Curator was very friendly and helpful.

Been there twice, it hasnt changed at all. A good little history about fiji a definite visit for foreigners, young couples, friends and families. Properly too boring for very young kids but has a panic area can be enjoyable for young ones. Make note to walk the park, and the seaside its nice and quite. The area is clean and it has a cafe. Keep it up fiji museum and keep it original.

Authentic Fijian history incorporate with few other Pacific Island nearby Fiji. Not fully opened, but the first section has rich history, including how Indians from India brought, trade, skills and method of working on farm lands in Native Fiji.

A comprehensive museum of Fijian history. Don't be deceived when you walk in, the main floor has some recreations and artifacts, but go through the gift shop and you will find a whole other world. From native history (including home, daily life and war implements) to colonial days and self rule as of 1970 as well as some flora and fauna. A worthwhile tour but be prepared to spend several hours to see everything.

Nice surprise. The exhibition is modern, well structured and easy to follow. Nice choice of traditional artefacts. Doesn't go deep into history, not many dates, but gives quite a nice overview of the Fijian history and culture

This was a highlight in Suva however I didn't give it 5 stars because it's not big enough! Fiji's history deserves more and I believe a bigger museum would be more respectful. I also liked the section in the museum about pastic waste and global warming. Amazing grounds and people... thank you for a great experience!

Very nice museum with local boats and artefacts. I think that other reviewers who said it was small didn't realise that there is more on the upper floor.

  • 3/5 Tina T. 4 years ago on Google
The museum is currently in te process of renovating. Some areas are inaccessible. Pieces are not really in any kind of order. Second floor, where the room that the bark cloth is housed is dark & can barely see the pieces. The back of museum where it talks about religion is dark& can't really see pieces properly. The only part of museum that is really done somewhat well is the portion explaining "tabua". The staff is accomadating& very polite.

A wonderful and delicious large cup of Cappuccino I had at The Ginger Kitchen. Read The Fiji Times for the day. Visited the convenience. Exchanged about a dozen books at the Book Exchange. Bought a ticket to the Uprising Music Festival 2020. Friendly staff and wonderful service. The downpour spolied the day though. Overall 10/10!

Quiet, comfortable place near gardens and has very good breakfasts options and customer service. One of the very few in suva city that open early for breakfast.

I foolishly ate the vacuum packed sushi from the vending machine. Puked in the women's bathroom sink because the men's room was being used as a voting poll booth.

Really interesting museum. I learned a lot about the history of Fiji. Some bits are a bit tired looking, but still very informative. The only negative is the noisy groups of people from a cruise ship who make their way around loudly guessing at what an artifact might be, and then more loudly debating it, instead of reading the very clear and very informative signs. Also the cakes at the café outside are very good.
