Great restaurant on main street of Swellendam. Easy to miss si ce it is slightly hidden behind large trees. Seating available outside and inside. Waiters are very friendly and efficient. Has a nice atmosphere. They specialise in ostrich dishes. Ostrich burger was great.

Das Essen hat sehr lecker geschmeckt aber die Portionen fielen leider sehr klein aus. Wenn man etwas Hunger hat , muss man definitiv noch eine oder mehrere Vorspeisen dazu bestellen. Ich hatte Bobotie bestellt und es hat sehr lecker geschmeckt, der Milkshake dazu war auch gut. Dafür Tiramisu, was eigentlich untypisch für so ein Restaurant ist war total enttäuschend, 80 Rand für ein lieblos serviertes Dessert war das Geld überhaupt nicht wert. Da bin ich hier anders gewohnt. Service ist schnell und freundlich.

What an absolute gem! Rolf and Hesma are a formidable team, together with their friendly staff! Our meal was superb and everything was done with so much attention to detail. The food is like no other anywhere in the world.... A very unique experience. I would recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to embark on a culinary journey like no other. Very well done to all!

Great discovery for us. Freddy was our waiter. Very friendly and professional. The önersin were in attendance and were great hosts. The food was the BEST so far in our time in SA. Lots of interesting ostrich themed things on display and for sale as well. Highly recommended.

Fantastic menu, much (but not all!) of which is ostrich-based. There's a focus on healthy, delicious food here. They don't deep-fry anything, they use an air fryer instead. The setting and service were also excellent. A real gem in the heart of Swellendam.

Best restaurant I've been to in a long time. They have a good concept, ostridge themed with ostridge meat and ostridge deco, and they have an amazing cook and great service. The wine selection is also very nice. The building is also very nice, a historical mansion with beautiful carpentry and old windows. Also I like chefs who know how to make good sauces, and these guys know how to make good sauces (I recommend the garlic and mushroom one, so tasty!)

Where to begin! First of all, greeted by the sweetest ginger kitty acting as front of house. Secondly our waiter, Freddy, was the sweetest and most attentive waiter we have experienced in some time! A lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, we sat outside and enjoyed our food thoroughly. The venue is beautiful and the service is stellar. The chef even came out to check on all the tables, and we had a lovely chat with him. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Agree with most of the ratings, this establishment serves some of the best ostrich dishes. Great quality meat made to perfection. I opted for the loaded pizza which was really loaded with cheese but pepperoni and pineapple was unfortunately very sparing. However, the pizza was very filling and very enjoyable. The waiter was attentive, however the owner seemed distant. But a great eating experience overall.

We've been here 3 times in a row. The restaurant serves great, tasty food. The butternut soup has a nice heat to it, the trout was amazing and of course the ostrich meat was a great try. Very much like beef, but less harmfull for the environment. Apart from the food, every time we received an excellent service from the sweetest waiters and watresses. They are very kid-friendly!! The owner even offered to put the music a bit louder so our baby could sleep better. And we saw other kids getting colouring pages to stay entertained. They also have a very nice outside area and they sell very pretty ostrich eggs. All in all, a great relaxed place with great food!

Die Kellnerin war sehr nett und aufmerksam. Das Essen hat gut geschmeckt und der Außenbereich war durch die Lichterketten und Musik sehr gemütlich. Man konnte direkt vor dem Restaurant an der Straße parken (bis 17 Uhr kostenpflichtig).

The second time in the week we order the ostrich burger with cheese and fig aspecially ask to my request amazing what a taste. Wife order chicken filet 1/4 with salad. The owner and chef personally involved not another restaurant close to this. Keep up will return again and again. Gerrit & Mariska

I was greeted by a very friendly lady at the reception and promptly seated. My somewhat unconventional request for an espresso as a starter was quickly accommodated, along with the entire order. I was eager to discover what the kitchen could do with ostrich meat. The starter of lightly smoked carpaccio was excellent. The red house wine paired perfectly with the main course, which consisted of an ostrich steak fillet served with a delicious sauce and perfectly cooked vegetables. The ambiance of the establishment, along with pleasant background music, provided an overall delightful experience. Overall, it was a very successful evening, and I would like to thank the owner, who also had many very interesting insights to share. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Swellendam.

Great service from Freddy, our waiter, he was friendly, efficient and always smiling! The pittas were so delicious and full of toppings & they not shy on the cheese ☺️, the gluten free base was absolutely AMAZING! Definitely the best gluten free bases EVER!

Absolutely fantastic. Great food, fillet and ostrich were cooked to perfection. We love the simplistic decor, waitress really awesome and owner interactive and friendly. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommended.

I can highly recommend De Vagebond. Waiters are very professional and friendly. The owner is a real gentleman and the food was amazing! Probably the best meal we had during our one month trip throughout South Africa! The smoked ostrich was all tender, cooked to perfection and served with a creamy side of spinach and carefully seasoned potatoes. Eventhough it was almost a shame to add any sauce to the juicy meat at all it should be mentioned that even the sauces tasted just perfect and underlined the ostrich taste just right. Additionally the service was outstanding! We were served by a highly attentive, friendly waitress that consulted us perfectly in making the right choices. We would always go here again for dinner and want to highly recommend De Vagebond!

The chef Rolf is a wizard in the kitchen!! Had lunch there it was delicious!! Later had a late night pizza order everything is delicious!!!! Went out of their way to accommodate. Freddy the waiter also provided excellent service. This is the only place we will go to when in town.

We had the most exceptional lunch here. Be sure to try the Ostrich Carpaccio! Wow!! Fred the waiter gave excellent service. We had a wonderful discussion with the owner Rolf about cuisine and game. Later in the evening Rolf came to the rescue and made us pizza when all other restaurants in town were closed. Thanks Rolf! We'll be back!

Excellent restaurant on the Main Street in Swellendam. Lots of yummy choices on the menu. I had the Ostrich fillet which was cooked as I like it and very tasty. The service was also excellent. Do go and try this restaurant, I found it served quality food at decent prices.

What a great restaurant. The staff are hugely friendly and take good care of you all the time. The food is very diverse and of good quality. If I'm correct, the owner cooks the meat and then comes to check if people are enjoying themselves. In my eyes, that really says something about a cook. They pay very close attention to detail and are ideal in terms of value for money. That is the reason for my high rating. Thank you! From the Dutch guys :)

A friend and I stopped over in Swellendam and were joyfully surprised at the very relaxed environment and attentive staff who always had a smile on their face. The food, centred on ostrich is well worth it. We had a chance to converse with the owner Ralph (excuse me if I’ve spelt it incorrectly) who has a lovely bedside manner and has really great stories to tell about ostriches and the history of Swellendam. 10/10 would recommend

Faith was our server for the evening. She was friendly, helpful and a pleasure to chat too. Her food recommendations were spot on. Absolutely delicious food. Highly recommend both the ostrich cottage pie and the ostrich steak (make sure to get the creamed deta spinach - it is to die for!)

The waiters are friendly and so informative definitely tipped! Loved the 20% discount for locals, Loved the basket with bread and the ostrich Salami very different and unique. If you love ostrich this is your dream!

Heel leuk restaurant met lekker eten en goede wijn! Sfeer is gezellig en bediening is goed. Leuk om een keer struisvogel te proberen. De chef kwam zelfs aan ons vragen wat we ervan vonden. Als je in Swellendam bent dan zeker hier gaan eten!

What a surprise! Fell in for dinner, had a perfect fillet and a winner of a pizza!
