The new name is The Mill& Hops. Nice ambiance, friendly service. The food was excellent, the coffee a dissapointment, but we didn't pay for the coffee

While passing through Swellendam we stopped for breakfast and it was certainly a good option. We enjoyed the breakfast and the atmosphere. The made a fire especially for us. The waitress was super friendly and quick. The food was really good and it was a worth while stop.

We visited the restaurant at Mill & Hops in Swellendam, it looked quite inviting from outside. The garden dining area was what sealed the deal for us as we have little kids. We arrive just after 11am but they were still kind enough to accommodate us by serving us breakfast after it had ended. The garden area was very neat and looked stunning. With multiple levels and the kids play area up top, we went straight for a table next to the kiddies β€œjungle gym”. It seems you can bring your pets there as well as a family walked in with their little dog. The menu is a little pricey but this may be due to the venue also being accommodation. We ordered the R86 breakfast which came only 1 toast, bacon, 2 eggs and a slice of tomato. I have to admit though that the bread was amazing, not your average toast/bread. The eggs were done to perfection and the bacon was nicely grilled and not oily. The food, in short, was fantastic quality. So the price was justified. The kids ordered the kiddies chicken nuggets and chips, these were also great. If you are worried about the price, it’s well worth the food and the setting is really stunning on a good weather day. I would recommend the restaurant, we would definitely go again. The entrance has steps but they also have a wheelchair option.

My review is purely on my experience ordering a coffee and not on the food. The waiter didn't greet me as I entered or asked if he could assist me. I feel like I interrupted him while he was folding napkins. I ordered a black coffee, he brought me a coffee with milk as he didn’t listen or pay attention. I already payed at this stage and just left. Will not spend my money here again and unfortunately can’t recommend.

Nice place to stay, friendly and helpful staff. Weak Wi-Fi signal in some areas of the property. But great place overall. Nice food as well.

Lovely restaurant resonably priced restaurant in Swellendam. Outside or inside seating available and a cute play area for the kids situated outside on the deck upstairs.

Slow service with limited Breakfast options. While waiting more than 20-minutes for Coffee, two groups of respectively six and five people entered and left as there was nobody around to welcome/ seat them. There are better Restaurants in Town!

Great hospitality. Short notice sleep over in a beautiful peaceful room followed by a stunning SA breakfast. Jason makes the best flat white in town. Wynand & Ilze, you are incredible. Thanks for the chat!!!

After "InDieSop" I was very excited to visit Mill & Hops. It wasn't bad and wasn't great either but okay. R125 for quiche and salad. I ordered wacky viennas and chips for the kids and the viennas was over cooked.

Excellent food and service. Our waiter Jenine was awesome. We had lamb curry, it was out of this world. Thank you.

Ridiculous prices!!! R135 for a simple pie serving one person- and it comes with rice and sambals. Where did you ever hear about that!? And despite their add, they only had chicken pies! No clientele there - says a lot! Not worth it unless you want beer only! A rip off!

I have been to The Gaol once before and was disappointed. I saw, In die Sop, the TV program, that they renovated the restaurant. Changed the name to Mill & Hops Restaurant. Decided to have brunch there. What a utterly devastating experience. Had a Chicken Mayo Jaffle with salad. I saw my husband cutting all the burnt edges off his jaffle, so checked mine and turned it over. Completely burnt. Had to send it back. Blocks of Chicken was swamped with mayo. They added some weird yucky tasting cheese. The rummiken of "salad" consisted of shredded cabbage, carrot with salad dressing and few sesame seeds. The total cost for a Jaffle was R95.00 ridiculous. One thing the cuppachino R30.00 was delicious. Well, we will never go there again.

Bad news. We thought that things would improve after their "In die Sop" experience. However, the owner is still not interested. We had burnt jaffles for R90! Owner saw it and wasn't interested. We'll never go there again..

The most lovely little guest house in Swellendam. We were given great local advice on activities and we really welcomed warmly. Highly recommended.
