If I was able to give no stars, then that would be my rating. Firstly the only friendly and helpful people at this establishment are the cleaning staff. The restaurants food was inadequate and tasteless, you were also not allowed to take takeaways for the food THAT YOU PAID FOR if the meals we served in the form of a buffet then that would be understandable, however it was not. Once we eventually convinced them that we would like to take our takeaways they proceeded to charge us for a takeaway box. We did not enjoy our stay at all, we checked out early, 4 days early to be exact because the stay was truly unacceptable and didn't come close to the experience we expected for the price we had to pay. I would not recommend.

We were asked for put on our masks before being greeted having run in from the rain. The rooms are outdated, stains in the carpets and worn out furniture. Our room had no warm water and we were given the option to move to another room and then requested to move back again the following morning. We could hear the room next door even though they were talking at normal levels. The breakfast the following morning took very long to arrive. Our food got cold while we waited for knives and forks. The cappuccino served are the Nescafe sachets for R10 and then sold at R24, not even properly stirred to dissolve. The orange juice is concentrated juice, not real orange juice. We were moved between rooms in the rain due to no hot water, we were clearly unhappy about our breakfast and nothing was offered as compensation, no help with luggage. The bar closes at 20H00 in the evening, even though it is the only place to eat or drive for quite some distance. We were meant to stay for another two nights but drove down the road to De Hoop Nature Reserve where we stayed between wild life in beautiful cabins, could eat and drink what we wanted when we wanted and were treated like guests for LESS MONEY. Read this review, do your research and save yourself the hassle. I recommend staying at the De Hoop Collection down the road. The review is not the only negative review. Malgas Hotel is outdated, the staff are friendly but have no idea what they are doing and the owner clearly has no intention of making any improvements seeing as none have been made since its origin in 1996. My wife and I are easy people to keep happy. We are polite and friendly. I myself have never sent food back at a restaurant before staying at Malgas Hotel. I am not known to give bad reviews, so I do not say these things lightly. Our one night stay at Malgas Hotel - R1800 for the room and R500 for fried drinner in the pub and the breakfast mentioned above. Our one night stay at De Hoop Collection - R990 (40% winter discount), R900 dinner (fine dining experience with trained waiters and a fire place) or the option to self cater food.

We stayed at Malagas from about the 5th to the 9th. Going off season we got a big discount, so the price for it, so the price for us was pretty much nothing compared to in-season Tourists. This said, we had an amazing stay. The rooms were clean, calm, had a TV, a small fridge, cupboards with extra bedding in case you got cold, and they had really, really nice beds👌. There was also a super nice bird feeder in the middle of the area where you could watch and listen to I think every bird in the area. You could also borrow board games from the reception, and books from a small shelf they call their library. We ordered food at midday, and I think their main mealtime is focused on the evening meal as our salads were a bit sad, and the burgers used toast bread instead of buns. Not sure if that was a one time thing due to supply and demand issues or a trademark🤔. It seemed like the bar had nice burgers though🤷‍♀️, a bit more expensive but worth it if that's what you're going for. We went canooing on the 8th around 10:30, there were two staff members helping us for whom I'm sooo grateful. One spesifically, Albert, was super helpful and sweet. He was super open to chatting, and let my 8 year old brother roll up the canoe with the pulley system instead of doing it himself. I know it might seem silly but for me that was the sweetest, most cherished memory I have of Malagas. And I feel it showed the true kindness of the people living in the area. Whoever the ferry guy was was also super sweet to talk to. My Mom and I went on a couple walks around the area and and one thing to note is that Malagas is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There is a make-do basic necessities shop about 3 kilometers up the road from Malagas, so if you don't want to drive around 40 kilos to get to the nearest town, be prepared for that. Also the ferry closed at 6PM when we were there, so don't get stuck on the other side of the river or you'll have to drive another 80 kilos to get the other way around.

Our stay at the Malagas Hotel was an amazing experience for me. Families and children were enjoying themselves around the pool and play area, which was wonderful to see. The grass is beautifully maintained, and it was a delight to sit under the trees and watch the boats pass by on their way down the river. Breakfast was great both mornings that we were there. The kitchen staff and waitresses provided excellent service; they are kind and willing to assist! The drive there and back is along a dirt road, it was lovely to see the farm land whilst driving to the hotel. After reading the reviews, I believe that many people complain unnecessarily, as this gorgeous place has so many wonderful aspects! I am glad we chose to stay at your hotel, thank you for the memorable experience. (My only recommendation would be to bring your own water with, as the water may not be to everyone’s taste, but the bar does sell bottled water and have a water filtration system.)

A old fashioned hotel far off the beaten track along the rivers edge. Unable to rate rooms because I never stayed over. Friendly staff.

A gem on the Breede River. So clean, well maintained, comfortable and a home from home. Wonderful staff and management. One certainly does not go hungry with the amazing food. Quiet and peaceful. We will certainly go back. Thank you for a wonderful weekend stay.

Stopped by waiting on the ferry. Decent food and not very busy. I'm not sure about the rooms. I didn't stay overnight.

The place was nice and the staff were friendly. The food was very basic but hearty. The waitrons were poorly trained and there was a fairly noisy fridge in our room. All in all a good holiday, but would've struggled to stay more than two nights.

This is a little gem. Would have given it a better rating , but they were not very accommodating with us as a group for dinner. We were a group of 12 and they just bluntly refused to give us a table for 12. We had to sit at different tables for dinner. It would have been no effort or trouble to put 2 tables together for us , but they refused, totally @#$& our overall experience there.

This is not a 5-star hotel that will cost you a small fortune. Here you will find peace and tranquility both for your body and soul. Friendly service, priced well, great location and in the middle of nowhere!!

Very welcoming experience. Food (great) included, the reception was done with great attention. We were helped with great tourist tips. We had a problem with booking, but they did their best to help us and we even got a better room. Highly recommend!

It was very windy!! The swimming pool is just a little bigger than a plunge pool and murky. There is no easy access in and out of the river for a swim. Plastic and stompies have been overlooked for long periods of time. The groundsman kept circling, which was rather disconcerting. If you want to stay indoors, drink lots of alcohol and eat red meat, it might be tolerable.

Love the remote setting. Ideally have a 4wd to get there. Quite a long, buy well maintained sand road off the N2 or via Bredasdorp from the CT side. Lounging like a lizzard next to the pool, reading a book, and taking the occasional dip. Very quiet - stars bright with no street lights. Excellent friendly and professional service. Such a lovely place to enter the new year. Buffet meals delicious.

Its clean..there is friendly staff...the food is excelent, the wifi is good...the bar lady Kayleigh and the restaurant Manager Glynis need special mentioning but that does not take away from how great the other staff was. We left with big hopes to return soon...gravel road won't even keep us back... just time we need.
