A few large fans would make a world of a difference on a hot / humid day. People smoking 🚬 🚭 on the balcony near other non-smokers did detract in terms of 2nd hand smoke.

Had some of the best pizza in the Western Cape! Awesome food, which is good priced and very nice outdoor vibes

The service was indeed great,having some drinks while waiting for the meal.

Quality of the food is very good and portions are large. The atmosphere is fantastic however the overall experience was marred by extremely slow service (1 hour from placing order to delivery. I had to go find a waiter after waiting a while) I ordered a medium steak and got a very well done offering. Will I be back? I doubt it considering all the options available in town.

Wonderful find in Swellendam... Food is really good.

A great place with a lively atmosphere. Has a pub inside with indoor and outdoor seating. Pizza was great. The burger with potato wedges and onion rings is wonderful. You will likely offend someone by trying to eat the burger! Service is friendly and quick. They also have a large selection of drinks and cocktails. Very popular spot. Play area for the kids too.

I understand why there is accommodation available here because you can get a proper nap while waiting for your food. We waited almost 2 hours and almost gave up when I got up to just go pay for the drinks to leave. They assured us the food will be out shortly, which it was, but of course some items were ice cold. Im assuming they ran out of some menu items because while we were waiting the waiter ran across the street and came back with onions and potatoes and sauce. So while waiting for these items to cook the already cooked items were left to dry out and get cold. I guess it would have been fine if our waiter checked on us and kept the drinks coming, but we only got our drinks when we arrived and when asked what gins they have (since Swellendam has award winning gins) we waited for the list. After gesturing to the waitress following up on the gin list she mentioned only one that isn't from the area and a vodka..... Needles to say we just asked for another coke, which they didn't have, so took an alternative. The can came. No new glass, no ice. We love swellendam and the people from our first experience, but glad we didn't come to Barrel and Snooze the first time we came here or else it would have ruined our whole Swellendam experience and would not have been back.

I don't know how the food tastes as my wife and I are waiting for 90 min for 2 burgers, and as we are still waiting, I have spare time to write a review... The restaurant is empty, no queue... this is a joke. I could have bought meat at the supermarket across the street myself, started a wood fire, and did a burger at our BnB by this time...

Wil def not reccomend this place. Slow service, short staffed. Waited almost an hour for pizza and steak. Bacon on pizza was undecooked and had a sour taste. Not to mention my husband couldnt eat the steak-it was to tough and impossible to cut.

The interior of the venue is interesting, with a bar area and a dining area on the other side, both with large windows and tables. The background music is a mix of popular tracks, including some rock numbers, which creates a lively atmosphere that appeals to a mixed crowd of young and old. Can't comment on the live artist. We arrived after the performance. The waitress, barman and rest of the staff was very friendly despite being pretty busy. A nice change is that you did manage to get drinks reasonably fast at the bar, even with plenty of patrons. It is not instant food, but it doesn't take hours, so it does allow oppertunity to just chill, have your drink and observe the crowd, mess about on your phone, or put that away and take the oppertunity to just chat with your companions. The venue has a fun vibe, with interesting decor, including messages from patrons and photos of past live performers on the chalkboard walls inside. It's a popular spot for bikers and has plenty of live performances. If you are alone, read the dozens of messages from patrons on the blackboard if you are sitting inside. Some are interesting, inspiring or just people that had a good time. Otherwise, view the B&W photos lining the walls of live performers that have crossed the threshold of the venue in the past. Some good shots. The menu has reasonable prices and offers a range of options, but if you are looking for something light to eat, or a salad, you may struggle. No fish on the menu, but there are Prawns. Unfortunately no Chicken Livers. Settled on two pizza's. Zorba the Greek at R95 and Giovanni Botha at R100. Pizza's was good. Love the thin base. Would have loved a smear of tomato and thyme, cream cheese or basil underneath the Chilli Corn Crane Mince Topping on Giovanni Botha to take the edge off, but that is a personal preference. If you like spicy food it is good, but have some Rennies handy if you have a sensitive stomach. It may be worth inquiring about the backpacker's accommodation they offer. All in all, a nice place to go for a drink or a night out. Love the parrot outside. Not sure if it started as a roadhouse. The website indicate Barrel & Blues Roadhouse. Could be an awesome place for the Swellendam Camera Club to go take photos at one evening during a live performance. If you are a WorkAway and Couchsurfing volunteer or working nomad, it can't do any harm in dropping them a message to ask if they take on volunteers, working for a few hours per day for food and accomodation. There is WIFI. Many backpackers is quite happy to take volunteer workers on, but not all of them. I am unsure if they do. A nice evening out. We did not keep the receipt when we left or really cheched the bill, but when we calculated the amount a day later, we did establish we were overcharged quite a lot for the pizza's, and we were billed again for the drinks we had already paid for at the bar when we arrived. Probably just an honest mistake, but it affects my rating. The food and service was good, but check your bill before leaving.

The bar and restaurant has a really cool blues/rock theme with unique decor. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, with great recommendations. The pizzas we had all tasted great, were fresh and nice portions for the price. Be sure to ask for a marker to write on the wall to leave your mark when you visit!

This place has potential and is a vibe however, service was poor it was difficult to actually get any service. Pizza was terrible, flooded woth cheese and hardly any tipping even when paid for extra. Base was soggy and paper thin. Don't recommend

We stayed here in both the private rooms and the dorms. Very clean with a fun character. Though the dorm shares the main house with the bar, we didn’t have any problems with noise. The owner was so kind and helpful with any issue we had. He went above and beyond to address any concern. The highlight for me was having the bar downstairs, it was a great social atmosphere that really added to our stay.

My wife and I stayed here fir 2 nights and it was amazing. The venue is beautiful. The staff are super friendly and the rooms are kept exceptionally clean. Oh and you MUST try the snail starter and Pizza, they are to direct for.

Pizza tasted great, service was professional and quick, nice jungle gym and monkeys for kids, nice patio area as well as interesting interior - photos do not do it justice.

Best pizza I may have ever had, perfection, the steaks were fabulous too.

As a fellow biker, the Macs we met there were really nice and welcoming. The service was very personalised and I felt at home right away. The Monday burger special is really good value.

Literally the thinnest crust I’ve ever had on a pizza but is it ever good! Toppings were all good, and the chilies on the side was a thoughtful touch. Now we could share with those who couldn’t handle the spice.

One of the worst experience in this day and age. We sat for 20min, both waiters saw us seated, just continue ignoring us. I stood up myself to get menu, 2 other couples arrived after we've been there for 15min, got immediate attention with menu, few more minutes no attention and decided to approach them then walked out. Ask the question if I maybe missed the "white only sign" will definitely report behavior of staff

Absolutely loved this Lil diner, food was good and affordable and the staff were great. Lovely atmosphere and food was quick for a stop over on the road whilst travelling.

We popped in for a drink and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our waitress Jackie was lovely. It was the Monday night burger special so we decided to stay. Sadly, we waited close to 2 hours for food. When it arrived they had run out of beef burgers so we were presented with very dry chicken burgers and no other option. The ran out of tomatoe sauce and the general communication from management was very lacking. Other tables were also getting frustrated. It was a sad way to end a wonderful start.

Had an awesome dinner here yesterday. The ribs were spot on. The service from the 2 lovely waiters was excellent. Will definitely come back again next time am in Swellendam.

when my colleagues asked me to recommend a place in swellendam that would deliver on service, food, atmosphere & location the only place that popped in mind was barrels & blues 💙 - we arrived approx. after 12pm & the waiter immediately attended to us with such a friendly & welcoming demeanour 🤗 & immediately we decided on pizzas & the platter for 2’s only to find out that the kitchen is only preparing pizzas between 11am & 3pm because the chef (who prepares the rest of the menu) is only scheduled to come in at 3pm since Monday moving forward 😢 … we unfortunately finished our drinks & left to find another establishment in town 😔 where we could enjoy more than just pizzas for lunch. but, the friendly waiter made the brief pop in worth it 🌸

Delicious steak! Family say the pizza was also yummy. A good night out, plenty of time to drink and catch up before the food arrives.
