One of the best restaurants we’ve come across in Swellendam. It did help that the weather was perfect which made it a really wonderful experience sitting outside under the oak trees. The restaurant is on what seems to be the more trendy street in Swellendam catering for tourists or visitors. You could hop from establishment to establishment, with the museum and other boutique stores in the street. But let’s get back to Republic. The setting and scenery was lovely. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We sat under the tree on couches and but ate at the table next to us which was convenient and comfortable. We loved the menu, especially the kids meals names. There is an indoor play area for little kids. The prices were ok, the food quality was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We spent just over 2 hours there relaxing and eating because it was so pleasant. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, with road side parking and easy access to the entrance. I like that the menu offered pizzas as well as quality “home cooked meals” such as Babotie and Bunny Chow curries. Would love to come here more often.

Enjoyed lovely house gin with sugar free tonic!! Their Smoked chicken & bacon salad were very tasty and recommendable. Fresh fresh ingredients (I'm always sceptical about ordering salads) Enjoyed the ambience👌

Driving past looking for a place to have lunch. We decided to stop off as the place looked sort of trendy.decided on tomato bredie.Wow this meal was totally awesome.the nearest other tomato bredie I had was my grandmothers.both waitresses were also very professional and also had a very good k knowledge of the history of Swellendam.10 out of 10 for you establishment.

Nice atmosphere. The meals was of a quality and the meal portions are good. The pumpkin fritters are the best! Service lacked a bit, but They were very busy on the evening we visited.

A lovely restaurant across from the Drostdy Museum, with a lekker atmosphere and a generous menu. The food is well priced, but not the greatest! I had the 300g sirloin, and it was quite tough. At least the ice cream and chocolate sauce was nice!

Although the food looked very tasty, we only visited for drinks and I can highly recommend you visit them when you are in the area. One of my favourite things to do when in a new area is to try the local craft beers, and I am glad to say their Swellenbrew Larger and Ale were very tasty. Some of our group also tried the custom Gin & Tonic's available which they said was also definitely worth it. Another thing I liked about the restaurant was their beautiful outside seating area, as well as their bar, and I will definitely grab something to eat next time I visit.

The food here was outstanding and the venue itself is very nice. My only complaint is that their IPA was pretty average.

Great food. Unfortunately waitresses not clued up to what is on menu. Was told it is potato and leek soup, only after we tasted and said it is wrong soup to be told it is actually butternut. Asked about the platter option and she could not explain what was on it. Beside that gin tasting is excellent as well as food.

We went there for dinner, the pizza was incredible and servers very friendly. The prices are decent. The fireplace made the room very cosy on a cold evening.

Starters: Due to load shedding only limited menu was available - I ordered the Pork Belly Sosatie - it was dry with very little sosatie sauce Main: I opted for the lamb bunny chow and chicken bunny chow as two starters for main - very disappointing to receive lamb and chicken meat and very little potatoes and no veg in sight on a slice of bread. Come one let’s do research on what is a Bunny Chow Dessert: I ordered Chocolate Brownie but received chocolate cake and ice cream. No pieces of chocolate or nuts in sight. Please research a real chocolate browny recipe. It’s free on Google The waiter Peggy was amazing and took the chocolate brownie off the bill as I could not eat it.

We had the worse pizza and cheese and tomato sandwich. or maybe the restaurant caters more for non vegetarians. The pizza was just cheese and did not taste like a mozzarella. The sandwich was so thick and heavy.

Great food and friendly service. We appreciated the indoor play area for our 22 month old son to play in safely. We shared a few entrées at our table and my favourite was the Republic Lamb Curry. We added a side of the pumpkin fritters, which were excellent and a big favourite with our son. We shared malva pudding and a chocolate brownie with ice cream, both delicious.

Nice setting. Pizza disgusting. Dough not even close to authentic pizza base more like flaky pastry. Loaded with wayyyy too much cheese. Horrid. We sent one pizza back as inedible but we’re still charged for it. Don’t waste your time.

Had tasty tomato stew and lamb curry with veg, rice, pumpkin fritters. Big meal. Also did the craft beer and gin tasting. Enjoyed our Sunday girls lunch out.

Very cool place. Nice menu and enjoyed the gin tasting and craft beers. Pizza was ok, maybe some garlic and herbs needed.

We had a truly beautiful and enjoyable experience in the unassuming Republic of Swellendam, the Garden Routes best kep secret. From juicy, 1kg Rump steaks topped with the best onion rings in town, to a local Saturday market, berry pickings, game drives, craft beer, and gin tastings, and locally roasted coffee, we were truly impressed with what Swellendam has to offer. Historical buildings have been preserved and elevated to offer delicious culinary experiences in tranquil settings. Treat yourself to an overnight stay in Swellendam and then ask the friendly Swellendamers for their top recommendations.
