What a fabulous find! From the moment of arrival the hospitality was second to none! Jack greeted us with a warm welcome alongside Alison the owner. We were travelling with our teenage son so Jack quickly recommended a pizza place and booked our table. On our return we had a couple of drinks at the bar with fantastic service and returned to our room where hot water bottles had been added! Breakfast was amazing and check out was caring and professional. Everything in this hotel is certainly done with love and we very much appreciated it. Thank you guys for a beautiful stay 💕

There are simply no words in the English dictionary, that can describe what a truly beautiful and perfect hotel Schoone Oordt Country House is. I was extremely fortunate to have stayed with my family (inclusive of 8 year old) and witness what true perfection and outstanding service can be with a hotel stay. From the beautiful outside pool, manicured gardens, we entered the most stunning cottage/room. The attention to quality was exceeded in every way. The cleanliness was the best we had ever seen. The staff made you feel so very welcome and we were honoured to meet Ali & Richard the owners. The food was simply first class, and highly commended for quality and exceptional fine dining. Any hotel should follow Schoone Oordt Country House as the most exceptional example in the industry. We cannot Thank the team at Schoone Oordt Country House enough. We will be returning and most certainly be recommending as our first class hotel of choice. Ever.

Of all the great places we stayed during our visit to SA, we loved this most. The restaurant (the photo shows our kids) is world class, as are the wines. Just follow their recommendations. The main building is a beautifully restored mansion, the chalets are close by but quiet. What really takes your breath is the 3-course (!) breakfast. Great! We enjoyed the finesse, the excellent dining (and wining) and our caring hosts - we will stay here for longer on our next trip to SA.

We had the most wonderful experience! The rooms are incredible it’s so cozy and beautiful. The owner and staff is so welcoming and we had the best time. You can also book a lovely dinner at the restaurant and the food was amazing. Could be an absolutely wonderful venue for an elopement wedding. We will definitely be back soon 😉

They’ve perfected the details of hosting - each stay includes a car wash, incredible breakfast, impeccable service, warm welcome and they think of the details like stuffing a hot water bottle in your turn down service if the evening is cool. The owner Alison is lovely and actively engages with you to make your stay memorable with advice on local options. We were sad to leave and happy to have experienced it. Food is also exceptional and the story behind the renovation is charming. All superb!

We spent our anniversary at this marvellous place. We could not wish for more. Schoone Oordt is the most wonderful experience we have had so far. The service and attention to detail were absolutely fantastic.  Alison was such a great communicator and host. When we arrived, the fire was ready, a driver was organised, and dinner was booked in a quaint restaurant. Such an amazing experience. The next morning, our car was washed. The breakfast was haute cuisine. The stuff is warm and friendly. We highly recommend this place.

We had my daughter's wedding there and we could not have dreamt of a better venue. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and there is an open fire lit in the bedroom and complimentary chocolates on the bed each night. The 3 course breakfast is amazing, each dish impeccably presented and mouth watering. The staff is friendly & helpful and the attention to detail is second to none

Rooms are very cozy, breakfast in the morning a real treat. Allison was incredibly helpful to also help us find restaurants for the night since the restaurant on site is closed during winter. We highly recommend staying here in fact we stayed here twice during our trip!

We had a wonderful stay at Schoone Oordt. The service was perfection - especially Steffanie and the housekeeping team who looked after us as soon as we stepped foot in the house. The accomodation has a very homely feel. The food at the restaurant is so delicious. The details make the difference - they light your fire in your room at night and even gave us a hot water bottle and cleaned our car! The staff and owners are so friendly! Highly recommend.

We recently had the pleasure of a short stay with Alison and her staff at Schoone Oordt. The standard and quality of the stay cannot be overstated. The attention to detail is drawn from the personal input to the restoration of the building and the commitment to the development of the business provided by Alison and her husband. Our only regret is that we had not booked a longer stay. Thank you for making our short stay such a lively and memorable experience. Jerry and Bronagh.

Arrived to a very warm welcome from Alison and her team and a nice pot of tea on the balcony. Showed to our room which was absolutely stunning! Had a lovely walk around Swellendam to build an appetite for our lovely dinner in the orangery. The beef was particularly delicious. Had our coffee in the lounge whilst playing a game of cards and headed off to our lovely ‘turned down service’ room. Enjoyed a 3 course breakfast before sadly having to head off to our next garden route retreat. A very lovely stay. A huge thank you from us both!

We were only able to enjoy the restaurant, but let me tell you... It was easily the best restaurant experience of both our lives. The food was amazing (both the quality of the products and the preparation) and Jack's service was just magnificent. Schoone Oordt exceeded our expectations in every possible way. Cannot recommend enough! We'll definitely come back if we're ever in the area again (or maybe we might make a short detour to make that happen ;) )

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at this beautiful place. We were travelling with our 9 month old son and Alison, Steffanie and the whole team went over and above to ensure that we and he enjoyed our stay. The family suite was spacious and thoughtfully set out and made our trip with a young baby that little bit easier. The breakfast and the dinner were both truly delicious - we were particularly impressed with how much variety there was in the breakfast menu, changing on a daily basis. The location was perfect, in the middle of town and a very short walk to lots of restaurants, shops and cafes. Swellendam was a perfect place to spend a few days. We spent a day exploring the beautiful Bontebok Park and a day taking a scenic drive through the mountain pass for an afternoon at a winery. The third day we enjoyed the beautiful garden and pool at the house and had a potter around the town. So definitely worth spending a little longer here if you can! Thank you to the team for a perfect start to our holiday in South Africa and we hope to see you all soon!

We had a wonderful three night stay at Schoone Oordt. Alison and her team looked after us so well. The room was great, food, both breakfast and dinner (one night - Alison recommended two other local restaurants for the other nights) was excellent. The little touches were much appreciated - hot water bottles and a free car wash. Highly recommended!

We stayed here on our honeymoon at the start of July for one night and had an amazing time. It really was one of the best places we stayed on our trip. Allison greeted us personally and offered us fresh coffee and scones, and her team were happy to give us a lift to a local restaurant as well as make a fire in the evening. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and the room was very cosy and well appointed. Breakfast was an experience in itself too - it was amazing and I’m sad we had to leave a little earlier than we planned. Thanks so much to Allison and the team for a lovely stay - we’ll definitely stay here again.

The most beautiful family run hotel. The service and attention to detail was absolutely amazing and breakfast was incredible!! The room was quiet and really clean and it was a really quick walk to get into the centre of Swellendam. Highly recommend!

We just finished a three night July family break at Schoone Oordt. What an exceptional experience! In summary, just go there. From the outset the level of welcome and quality of service were at the highest level we have known. Our rooms were extremely comfortable with oversized beds and tasteful furnishings and very generous bathrooms complete with roll top baths, delightful toiletries and enormous walk in showers. Each night open log fires were set in our bedrooms and our beds warned with hot water bottles. As the outdoor temperature overnight dropped close to freezing this was very welcome and the rooms stayed warm and cosy at all times. Throughout our stay the front of house staff could not do enough to help. We ate breakfast each morning and dined in on two nights in the conservatory dining room with views over the garden. At each meal there were fresh home baked goodies that were light, delicious and still warm. Breakfast is three courses of deliciousness with yogurt, fruit and nuts and fresh scones accompanying cheese and cold meats then a range of lighter snacks and a proper hot breakfast. All of this was fantastic. Dinner offered very sophisticated cooking - delicious food supported by a well selected wine list. We all really liked the beef and the pork belly but in there you can also find vegetarian, vegan and gluten free treats too. The effort that Alison and Richard and their wonderful team have put into Schoone Oordt to achieve these high standards, both inside and in the garden, and continue to put into it really stand out. A fantastic place to visit. As I said at the beginning - Go there!

What an incredible Country Guest House in the charming town of Swellendam. Lovingly restored to its charismatic yet simple grandeur, every detail has been thought through. The rooms are stylish, spacious, warm and intimate. We loved the fireplace and the charming bathroom. The conservatory at night is legendary and the food is sublime. It evoked incredible memories of Karroo holidays in my youth and it felt as if we were being serenaded by the piano in the corner of this magnificently restored vast space. The hotel entrance makes one feel as if one has stepped back in time. We even got a hot water bottle in our bed and delicious home made date treats on our pillow. Date night in Swellendam - who would have thought? 🧡

We had a unforgettable stay at Schoone Oordt Country House. Alison and her excellent team have managed to take care of every detail, making our accommodation perfect. Wonderful and restful room (honey moon suite in our case), delicious cuisine. They really know what a 100% customer-oriented service is. I would recommend them without hesitation. Thank you, Alison!

Stunning hotel in beautiful Swellendam. We stayed for three nights with our baby and couldn't have loved Schoone Oordt more. All of the team are wonderful; extremely charming and helpful. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the food was some of the best we ate on our holiday (in fact, ever). The breakfasts are particularly exquisite. I can't recommend it enough.

The most beautiful house. I stayed here for one night on honeymoon with my husband. The staff are amazing and the food is out of this world. We didn't leave the premises as it was lovely just to sit on the terrace and have a drink. Dinner was delicious and breakfast also. The cats and dogs were very cute and friendly. The staff even washed our car. Would highly recommend.

The best boutique hotel in the region. Owners and staff go beyond any expectation to ensure every comfort. 3 course breakfasts and high teas included. Lovely pool area. Delish Victorian bath with bath products from Rain, with beautifully appointed rooms.

What a magical place. Such an exquisite combination of care and luxury. Smallest attention to detail and to one's every comfort. Catered a totally vegan culinary delight for our 15 year anniversary. A gem of an experience for a special memory. Can't recommend it more highly. We will definitely be back.

This hidden gem was recommended to us by our wedding/travel planner after we decided to return to South Africa for our one-year anniversary and we’re so happy she did! The rooms are charming and ornate, the grounds are beautiful and have jasmine bushes perfectly situated so that the breeze wafts their amazing scent over to the porches outside the rooms, and the woman at reception (whose name has unfortunately escaped me) was extremely pleasant, helpful, and went out of her way to accommodate us throughout our stay. The owner also checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and stopped by at breakfast to chat and was very kind/easy to talk to. We even looked out the dining area window to discover an employee giving us a complimentary car wash as our vehicle had gotten extremely dirty driving in from De Hoop the day before. All-around perfect stay and our only wish was that we had booked for another night!

This has most romantic hotel of our honeymoon so far! Absolutely spoilt here, we had dinner at the restaurant which had delicious and beautifully presented food. Our room was beautiful with a roll top bath and beautiful open shower. We got into bed to discover hot water bottles and settled into sleep with a lovely crackling fire. The next morning was the best breakfast I’ve ever had at a hotel. Everything was truly personal with Alison the owner coming to greet us at both dinner & breakfast.

We were blown away by the wonderful welcome from Steffi, the genuine kindness and hospitality from Alison the owner who’s ever-present and just so lovely, as well brilliant service from Kai. The rooms are immaculate, the breakfast outstanding and the vibe perfect. This was was one of our favourite stays throughout the entirety of our one month trip to South Africa, don’t pass Swellendam, make a detour and spend at least one night in this truly lovely hotel.

Utterly gorgeous country house and phenomenal South African hospitality!! Very well situated in Swellendam, a charming historically-rich town - conveniently close to Cape Town and the beautiful Garden Route. Our room was elegantly decorated, sheets were perfectly crisp and the bed was so comfortable. We strolled through the lush garden areas in the morning, relaxed at the pool in the afternoon and were served drinks at the "stoep" at sunset in front of the tastefully restored manor house. The dining experience was fantastic and one can tell the food was made with attention to detail and utmost care. Thank you so much Alison and Richard.

Very good. Children very welcome I would say - but not so much for kids. Owner has nice koi-fish setup as well. Lovely hearty and fancy place. Food was exceptional, wines, architecture and decor all very good. Swellendam is not close to much but central to everything.

Super comfortable rooms with great bathroom amenities. Excellent food. Perfect service. The town - Swellendam - is really nice to visit and the surroundings offer interesting trails. Don't miss it out and don't do the mistake to use it only as an overnight stop. It's a perfect hideway to relax and unwind. Thanks to all the team for a very nice stay.

What a special place. Family run, a personal yet highly professional boutique hotel. Loved every minute of our stay, from the moment we were welcomed with tea and scones on the colonial style veranda to the moment we were waved off. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Attention to detail, very clean and spacious, delicious dinner and breakfast fit for a king. Beautiful pool and a backdrop that’s jaw dropping of the mountains. There’s a personal touch everywhere you go. Beautiful!

Loved staying at this place, one of the highlights. The place is full of character and history while in top notch state. The room and bathroom are spacious and great. The dinner was delicious, very well prepared and beautifully served. We had the springbok as main. The restaurant vibe is romantic. The breakfasts was incredible, three courses! 😅 One of the best ever. Finally the team is most welcoming and really makes you feel welcome and special. The attention to detail is exceptional.
