Maarat al-Numan Museum. This is an ancient Ottoman khan I visited it several times when I was young A wonderful place because of the antique pieces and models it contains And some folkloric paintings from the region’s heritage Stuffed birds. What attracted me most were the statues depicting Bedouin people with coffee pots and others turning mills to grind grains. Oh God, grant us security in our homelands... and may Al-Ma’arra return better than before

The world's most famous mosaic museum in Syria is in the line of fire The area contains a third of Syrian antiquities The painting of Hercules, one of the most prominent mosaic works that embodies the ideal classical tendency in Syrian art (Philip Hanna) Mosaic panels: A group of small, square-shaped, colored stones with geometric designs representing mythological and historical scenes. They were collected in an archaeological museum in Maarat al-Numan, in the southern countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria. Orientalists consider it one of the largest mosaic museums in the world. Architectural uniqueness It is not surprising that this museum is considered one of the most famous international museums specializing in mosaics. It contains paintings from BC, and the Maarat al-Numan area in Idlib Governorate, despite being considered forgotten, contains the largest stock of ancient historical antiquities and shrines and contains a third of Syrian antiquities.

It is considered the first museum in the world with its mosaics. The museum’s building is an Ottoman khan built by the governor Murad Pasha Al-Azm. The museum was bombed several times by the Assad gang’s aircraft and artillery.

It was built in the year 974 AH by “Murad Çelebi Pasha,” the keeper of the books of the Ottoman Sultan, according to what was stated in a text engraved at the top of the arch of its entrance, to be an oasis and a rest stop for the Ottoman caravan of pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. And all the other commercial caravans coming from the Ottoman provinces, which later turned into a real treasure, whether from a historical, artistic or material standpoint. It appears to you today with its huge and beautiful building in the middle of “Maarat al-Numan”, occupying an area of 7,000 square metres, and it is filled with history. During your visit to this museum, a cabinet opens before your eyes. History.th

old Oh God, if my provision is in the sky, then send it down, and if it is on the earth, then bring it out, and if it is far away, then bring it closer, and if it is near, then make it easy, if it is little, then increase it, and if it is much, then bless it for me. Praise be to God, whose remembrance is never forgotten. Praise be to God, who never disappoints in His hope. Praise be to God, whoever trusts in Him is sufficient for Him. Praise be to God, whoever trusts in Him does not entrust him to anyone else. Praise be to God, who is our trust when our suspicions of our actions become bad. Praise be to God, who is our hope. When the tricks and rope are cut off from us

Maarat al-Numan Museum or Khan Murad Pasha: The lines of history intersect to produce for us a wonderful building that is considered an architectural jewel in the crown of Arab civilization. This building is distinguished by the splendor and historical depth of the city of Maarat al-Numan, which has kept pace with history since its inception. This facility was built by Murad Çelebi, Secretary of the Royal Treasury, shortly after the Ottomans entered Syria in the year 974 AH 1595 AD. The purpose of the building was a rest stop, a hotel, and a feeding hospice for travelers, wayfarers, and others, as stated in the endowment text above the arch of the main entrance to the khan. The text reads: (He built This is an oasis for the sake of God, the protector of the books, the Royal Diwan, Murad Çelebi. If a poor man or any animal is rich, then the curse of God, the angels, and people will be upon him in various ways in the year 974 AH.) The building as a whole is so carefully crafted and meticulous that the viewer thinks it is made of a single stone, as if its builder had just finished building it, and in order for this charitable urban project to be delivered and fulfill the purpose for which it was created. The builder endowed it with numerous buildings and water constructions as a wide endowment for him and a palace for him that would meet his expenses and overflow, namely eighteen zūra (orchards), twenty-two water mills in the Orontes Basin, thirty-five watering water fountains, the Al-Farzul (Al-Haraki) farm east of Maarat, and a large khan, Khan Al-Subul, on the Hama road. - Aleppo. It also contains an archaeological library dating back to the Islamic era, called the Ibn al-Shihna Library, which is a calligraphy and archaeological library.

The city of Maarat al-Numan is located in a central area between the Orontes River Valley in the west and the desert in the east. Which made it a target for competition from multiple forces It is the birthplace of the famous poet Abu Al-Ala Al-Maarri. Al-Ma'ara was known to the Crusaders as "Marra" and "La Marre", and the Greeks mentioned it as "Arra" and "Megara". Its current name, Maarrat al-Numan, is associated with the name of the companion al-Numan bin Bashir al-Ansari, who was appointed as its governor by the Umayyad Caliph Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (661-668 AD).
