In
1801,
Wojciech
Bogusławski
created
a
drama
theater
in
Kalisz,
which
in
1936
took
the
name
of
the
founder.
The
first
theater
building
since
1801
with
an
auditorium
for
500
people
was
wooden
and
survived
15
years.
Another
building
burned
down
in
April
1858,
and
the
next
neo-Renaissance
building
was
burned
by
the
Germans
in
the
summer
of
1914
at
the
beginning
of
the
First
World
War.
The
present
building
was
built
in
1920-1936.
Since
1960,
the
Theater.
Boguslavsky
organizes
annually
the
Kalisz
Theater
Meetings
(Polish
KST,
Kaliskie
Spotkania
Teatralne)
-
a
competition
and
festival
of
acting
art.
The
most
outstanding
premiere
performances
of
recent
seasons
are
invited
to
the
competition,
which
are
distinguished
by
acting
incarnations
that
are
highly
recognized
by
Polish
critics.
The
theater
opened
in
1936
in
a
building
designed
by
Czesław
Przybylski.
The
name
was
given
to
the
theater
in
memory
of
the
activities
of
Wojciech
Bogusławski
in
Kalisz,
who
performed
here
with
his
ensemble
in
1800–1805,
1808–1811,
as
well
as
in
1815
and
1823.
Kalisz's
first
stage
director
was
production
designer
and
director
Ivo
Gall.
At
that
time,
Tadeusz
Rittner,
Gabriela
Zapolska,
Jerzy
Szaniowski,
Wlodzimierz
Perzhinsky
played
in
the
Polish
dramaturgy.
The
repertoire
also
includes
many
comedies.
Gall
is
exhibited
here,
among
others
KRAKOWIAKOV
AND
GRALY
by
Wojciech
Boguslawski
(1937)
and
together
with
Galina
Gallova
Pastoralka
Leon
Schiller
(1937).
Gall
soon
resigned
and
was
in
charge
of
Marian
Lenk
for
the
last
pre-war
season.
