The Kitsap Historical Society Museum was a very nice place to visit in Bremerton. I liked the exhibits and especially the one that walked you through the facades and storefronts of a bygone Bremerton. My favorite part of the museum was the temporary exhibit about the Indigpino population in Bainbridge Island and the surrounding area. I did not know anything about them and learned a lot about their history. Definitely a nice place to visit in Bremerton.

Lovely museum showcasing local stories. They just updated one of their permanent exhibits and it's so nicely done. Also on display right now is a collection of Black Americana that is outstanding and powerful. Make the stop to visit. It's worth it.

I'm a museum nerd... They were essentially my second set of parents growing up. Given that I feel confident in saying the Kitsap history museum is a top notch museum. This is not just in the material presented there but due to the folks who operate it. I reached out to them to find information on my home and they were extremely helpful. It is a great place to learn about the area, get out of the heat/cold, and while away some time.

If you have not checked this out, you need to! I love walking down their 'Main Street' which feels like you have been transported in time. You can look in all the store windows to see different displays and it feels like you are right there living history. Also love to bring my nephews here for the interactive kid's displays. Great exhibit on the history of the local ferry systems and I really enjoyed the exhibit called "The State of the Union in Black and White" a fascinating display of items from African American culture.

The stories of Kitsap County are told through living history displays. There is a recreated small town that is very well done. This brings so much more life to the history stories. There is also a small puppet museum upstairs. A must stop in downtown Bremerton.

This FREE place is packed with local history, that also appeals to a wider audience given the Naval shipyard’s long history with Bremerton. Lots of fun exhibits that also keep little ones engaged. It’s rarely crowded and right in the heart of downtown Bremerton by shops, restaurants, and theaters. The people at the welcome desk are also very knowledgeable about the immediate area and can give you lots of recommendations. Worth the visit.

I'm a bit of a connoisseur of smaller, local and regional museums. The Kitsap History Museum is a standout example of a balance of enjoyable presentation and interesting historical artifacts. The special exhibit, The State of the Union in Black and White, is both challenging and well done. Kudos to Roosevelt Smith and the Kitsap History Museum for contributing to this vital conversation.

This place is beautiful. It is free and it is informative. Please donate 10.00 when you go. I loved the black history room and the puppet museum.

This is a free local museum that does an excellent job of walking the visitor through the history of Kitsap County and Bremerton. I went here with 30 minutes I had to spare while spending the day in Bremerton, and was pleasantly surprised. My favorite displays were the USS Bremerton (CA-130) silver service and the shipyard office exhibit. I also really appreciated the firefighting exhibit and 1940s switchboard. The storefronts were very well done too. I did not have time to read everything, but I enjoyed what I did read and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Bremerton that's looking for a quick, thorough taste of the area's history - especially if you're not particularly interested in the Navy Museum a few blocks away, this museum has a much broader scope while still encompassing the region's crucial ties with the Navy. Parking can be a little tough, but most of the spots should be for an hour or more and that is enough time to work through this museum, in my opinion.

I went with my 4 year old daughter. She had a blast! We spent about an hour but she could have played there all afternoon. There is a puppet play room and the whole museum is very interactive. Highly recommend!

This museum has Indian artifacts, explorers who came, the history of how the loggers worked here, what home life was like in the 1800's, an exhibit about the ferry system, and some on the shipyard's contributions during WWII. A section is devoted to shops in the area from long ago; you can dial a number and listen to a recorded message for each. Tours can be arranged for school groups with a docent to explain what the students are seeing. The first Friday of each month is a program at night and the museum is free that evening. Some exhibit area rotates various themes so it is not always the same.

Great museum, didn't explore the puppet part only the historical. There is a pre-recorded option that you can do on your cellphone so it's best to have some Bluetooth headphones with your phone.

Visited with Roosevelt Smith and made a donation to the Black History portion of the Museum. What a gracious gentleman. Will be back someday to visit again.

Excellent exhibits of local Kitsap history. Also had the State of the Union in Black and White Exhibit, which showed African-American memorabilia from the past.

This was an excellent museum. They have so many mock ups of old building backed up by real stories of Kitsap County’s past. It feels you’ve been transported back to earlier days. The museum tells the beautiful hidden history of the people that called Kitsap home. From indigenous tribes that first inhabited the area to items from current times. Certainly worth a stop.
