Went here with my buddy on the last day of his visit to Vermont to cap off his 2 week trip. The retro diner layout felt welcoming upon first walking in. Tables were all full on a Monday evening so we ended up sitting at the bar. For a Mexican restaurant, I was quite surprised the only non-alcoholic Mexican drink they offered was a Mexican coke so, I just drank water. For a starter, I ordered the ceviche and the Tres fish taco plate for my main course. After a long wait, someone from the kitchen finally brought out some food. Unfortunately, it didn’t include the ceviche, nor the rice and beans that the tres taco plate has written underneath on the menu “choice of two sides…” My impression is that the bartender forgot to ask us what our sides were as he claimed that it’s only included if that’s the way it was ordered. Getting over this disappointment, tacos were actually quite good. Toppings were fresh and the fish fried to crispy perfection. I would hardly call these the best fish tacos I’ve had though. Same for the ceviche, which my excitement for this “starter” was discounted based on how long it took to come out of the kitchen. Probably would not come back here for a second try.

Food: The house margarita was fantastic, made with tequila blanco. The chips were perfect: fresh, crisp, and warm. The salsa was very good and flavorful. The taco plate was also delicious, and you can mix up your taco choices to try a variety of options. I enjoyed un taco de pollo, un taco de carnitas, y un taco de barbacoa. All were tasty! The tacos aren’t huge, so a three taco plate was just perfect. Atmosphere: A cool vibe, giving 60s diner aesthetic with the window booths and stools lining the long bar. Service: Super friendly, warm smiles, and speedy!

Great location next to the church street market. The food was good, just slightly better than average. The restaurant did smell a little like sewer near the kitchen and bathrooms, but it had been raining quite a bit.

Disappointing! I placed an online order an hour ahead, and it wasn't ready when I got there (restaurant wasn't busy). I received my order 15 minutes after their promised time. We got the fish tacos, and the beef tacos. There was no flavor whatsoever and the tortillas were hard and cold. I'm in disbelief at how bad their food is. 99 restaurant likely has better tacos. Needless to say, if you're looking for delicious Mexican food, look elsewhere. I know we will not be coming back here.

Great little taqueria restaurant in an old diner located right off Church Street. The atmosphere is very laid back and the food is delicious. The nachos were very good and everyone enjoyed their tacos. Kids devoured the churros!

Quite literally the best nachos and tacos I’ve ever had in my life. A must eat. Worth the price. We will need to start to eat regular at this place. Even the picky kid was rolling her eyes back in her head.

Delicious burritos, nachos and enchiladas. The service was a bit slow. The diner car atmosphere was super cute and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Great food, even nicer people, and terrific drinks. This is basically a busy and fun Mexican food “diner.” They were very happy to help accommodate gluten free and dairy free modifications/requests. Super enjoyable for a low key meal. Highly recommended.

Randomly hopped in on a Saturday night and got quickly seated at the bar. The ceviche was delicious, and I got elote nachos which were fabulous and towering and everything I could have hoped for. Very nice service! Will be returning.

Cortijo’s Taqueria is an attempt to bring Mexican food to Vermont.. is it authentic?? Ofcourse different people have different options IMHO food is a solid but I wouldn’t go far with saying this is authentic. Let’s start with the cool stuff…. -Mexican diner that is something cool, this place has a cool vibe to it. -The host and the servers are very friendly warm and welcoming. Even when we were a party of 3 in a jam packed restaurant, instead of making us wait for the next table they gave us a table for 6, very generous. -Host also attempted to cater to our custom order of Chilaquiles ( not on the menu). So they want to try and please the customer, ofcourse the chef was having a busy kitchen so declined the request. Food is decent, I won’t rave about it but you will be satisfied, definitely not disappointed. The desserts was the highlight of our meal, something unique, not your average churros. It’s called Buñuelos it’s a funky mix between churros and a doughnut without a hole. Must try!!! Give it a try if you are in Burlington, this is in the very cool church street marketplace.

Cute place to get some solid Mexican food, even if it's not perfect. Would happily come back here if I was in the mood for Mexican. - - - - - Came here on a Thursday night alone to grab some dinner. I got chips & salsa, 3 tacos, and a cocktail. The chips were clearly house-made and really quite good. Really crispy, right amount of salt, and a bit warm. The salsa verde was tangy and not too thin/not too chunky, just how I like it. The 3 tacos I got were (I believe) carnitas, chorizo, and camote (sweet potato & kale). They were all amazing; I've no complaints there. My sides were rice and black beans. Rice was fine but the black beans were sorely undercooked and largely inedible. I was filled up on tacos and chips, so it wasn't too disappointing, but still a bit. I forget exactly what my cocktail was... but it was very good. I don't recall the exact price (and their online menu is currently broken), but I recall it being a bit pricier than I would've liked and that I wish I'd gone with the house margarita instead. I sat at the bar and had solid, friendly service. He was quick, courteous, and not overbearing.

Was looking for a place to get dinner with the family. First time in the city, and I must say reservations are key here in Burlington. Food here sure hit the spot. Some dishes were sold out sadly, but im my opinion that's a good thing. Means that they're that good 👍 Started out with some guacamole and chips. It was nice not to see them greasy like some spots. Also got the Cheese Quesadilla, man so much dairy goodness in them! For main had the Pollo Enchiladas. Wish I had a 3rd one on the plate because it was so good. Luckily, that gave me room for dessert. The dessert was simple and made just right, Bunuelos! Mhmm the best👌

Really nice place! Food is good (but small portions maybe?), almost all their menu is gluten-free! The server was really friendly!

El Cortijo was a great stop for lunch! My boyfriend got the carnitas burrito and I got the chicken enchiladas, we also got salsa/guac/queso and chips and the queso was amazing! I got the caliente margarita and he got a blood orange margarita, and everything was great!

Charming spot with authentic, hearty Mexican food. Kudos for that old school diner vibe. I have to knock one star off as they forgot to include utensils in our takeout bag. Luckily we settled not too far in City Hall Park and I was able to run back, but it was still an important omission that deserved to be mentioned.

Such an awesome place. The food is absolutely amazing. Fresh and flavorful. Very nice atmosphere, like an old school box car diner, and super friendly staff. Will be going back next time I'm in Burlington.

Very good tacos (not the best I ever had but honestly more than decent), awesome guacamole, service and decor are great too. I really like the NA margarita.

Place is cozy, not fancy but I loved it. Had a very good conversation with the manager. She's awesome. Food is delicious. I tried a vegan customized bol and my friend had a burrito. We both loved it. They have homemade hot sauce! 🔥

This place had some of the most unique and best tacos ever! My favourite was the mushroom one, followed by pork shoulder. I have never had such a unique flavour profile like the mushroom taco and I loved it. It was crunchy, flavourful, creamy, and delicious. I hope I’ll be back one day to taste them again!

Great little Latin restaurant. I stopped in for chips, salsa, and a brew. The smoked salsa was great and the service was very friendly. The diner seemed like it was transported from another time with most of the original fixtures.
