An overview at the prevailing tourism activity suggests that Kashmir has a vast and as of yet unexplored tourism potential. A state of-the-art multipurpose centre which provided information to a visitor on all aspects of tourism in the state was required. The previous tourist reception centre which was burnt in 2005 was serving the visitors in quite an effective manner. Following the fire, the Department of Tourism proposed to shift the location of the reception centre from the original site to Nowgam and acquired about 100 kanals of land in Nowgam, which falls in the District Budgam for the reconstruction of a tourist reception centre. The site is located near the recently built railway station at Nowgam. The site for the proposed Tourist Centre is at a comfortable distance from the airport and the main city. The Proposed Tourist Reception Centre is envisaged as a “Gateway Building” that will provide Information, Lodging, Shopping and Restaurant facility. The T.R.C will reflect its function and represent architectural heritage of the Kashmir region. Integrate suitably with the traditional architectural traditions of Kashmir. Is of an appropriate design and scale to fulfill the multiple functions associated with its role. The building is designed on the basis of environmental friendly, sustainable architecture. The design also envisages the use of passive solar heating to compliment the lighting requirements. Care has been taken to make the building user-friendly and therefore incorporates features such as ramps etc. for use of physically challenged visitors. The Tourist Reception Centre at Nowgam will also be designed as a cohesive unit having all the facilities like the general tourist info block, guest accommodation, restaurant and the shopping kiosks well connected to each other like a web. The premises shall offer free and easy access to all the blocks. The tourist reception centre will have adequate parking facility. The guest accommodation shall have around 50 rooms, out of which 10 are single bedded and rest are double bedded. A separate dormitory which can accommodate 20 people is also proposed to be constructed elsewhere near the hotel block.

The valley of Kashmir is known all over the world for its beauty and charm. The Kashmir valley is situated about 300 km. from Jammu across forested ravines and steep mountain passes. The emerald valley of Kashmir is cradled in the Himalayas, under the crystal blue skies, against the background of snow-capped mountains. It is a magic land of silvery streams, rivers, fresh water lakes, pine, deodar and chinar forests, snow clad mountains, sparkling waterfalls, shikaras, green meadows and grassy slopes full of flowers of vibrant colours. It is an oval plateau over 5000 feet high and framed by three Himalayan ranges ? the Karakoram, Zanskar and Pir Panjal. Kashmir covers an area of 222,236 square kms and is often referred as the 'Switzerland of the East'. It is the land of bewitching beauty with exotic fruits, flora and flowers. Srinagar, the capital of Kasmir is nestled amidst the huge lakes, meadows and unique floating gardens in the valley. The state of Kashmir is mainly dominated by the Muslims and Kashmiris. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru also said about Kashmir that is there is a paradise on the earth, it is this, it is this. Kashmiri, Dogri and Urdu are the main languages which are spoken here. The best time to visit Kashmir is during summers. Kashmir Tourism offers Standard Kashmir Tour Packages and the Kashmir Budget Tours in a Special way so that you can enjoy the Kashmir Holidays and to make your Kashmir Trip most memorable Kashmir Tour

The "TRC" in Srinagar typically refers to the "Tourist Reception Center." The Tourist Reception Center in Srinagar is an important facility for tourists visiting the region. You can obtain maps, brochures, and information about the various tourist attractions in Srinagar and the surrounding areas. 2. **Booking Services:** Many tourists use the TRC to book accommodations, houseboats, and transportation services like taxis or shikaras (traditional Kashmiri boats) for exploring the beautiful Dal Lake. 3. **Permit and Registration:** If you plan to visit restricted or protected areas within Jammu and Kashmir, you may need to obtain permits from the TRC. The staff can assist you with the necessary paperwork. 4. **Guidance:** The TRC staff can provide guidance on local customs, safety tips, and cultural insights to help tourists make the most of their visit. 5. **Souvenir Shops:** Some TRCs have souvenir shops where you can purchase local handicrafts and souvenirs. 6. **General Assistance:** If you encounter any issues or require assistance during your stay in Srinagar, the TRC is a good place to seek help and guidance. I'm highly thankful to the tourist reception centre of Kashmir for the speedy redressal of my grievance. The shikara boat overcharged us 7times more than usual price. We lost hope that we will get our money back but officials fully co operated with us and within 4 hours we get our money back by shikara owner.
