A lake accidentally formed because of the 921 earthquake 20 years ago in Taiwan. Trees were buried in the land slide. Some of them have been dead and soaked in the lake. The lake is situated in a gorge. In early days, people needed to hike a steep slip trail to get there. Now the local residents has made a drivable passage for 4 wheel drive cars. But I don’t suggest tourists to drive cars there because of the risks. Some backpackers may stay overnight in the woods, but I don’t suggest taking any water from the lake. No facility in the woods. The hygiene of the site may not be good. It is better to visit in Spring or in the rainy season. You may then see a better view. It is beautiful in the early morning. You can see mist over the lake. It is not a maintained tourist attraction. So be aware of any climate change or seismic activity. It may not be geologically stable area.

Hiking up is not fun. It is better to pay for a mini van to take you up

Very popular spot for people to go and take pictures. It's pretty much just an area where trees have died. I believe it's supposed to be filled with water but when I went it was dry. It's on top of a steep hill that will probably take you 20 minutes to walk up. Or you can pay someone 100 dollars and they will drive you up.

One of the best experience ever on my taiwan trip. Explore the forest under low visibility fog & taking photos. Wish i could come back again when the water level is high enough to make mirror effect.

Very steep climb, you can take the paid minivan if you want a shortcut. View at the top is fantastic, although very crowded. A lot to be admired from a swamp at the top of a mountain! As the name of the place goes, you're supposed to forget your worries in the serenity of the place.

I went in beginning December, the water had all dried up. Place looked like rampage. Can give a miss. We paid each person NT200 for return trip up and down the valley. It was like a roller coaster ride, which became the highlight instead.
