Shougujing Wanfu Temple is the Qitian Dasheng Temple located in Central and Western District, Tainan City, Taiwan. It was formerly the residence where the wife of Ruan Jun, the Yingyi Bo of the Ming Dynasty, came to Taiwan to live as a widow. The memorial tablets of Ruan Jun and his wife are still enshrined in the left wing of the second floor of Wanfu Temple. Since the current temple was rebuilt in the 61st year of the Republic of China (1972), only the screen wall in front of the temple that retains its ancient appearance is listed as a historic site. The predecessor of Wanfu Temple was the residence of the widow of Ruan Junzhi, the wife of Zheng Chenggong's general. On August 26, the tenth year of Yongli reign in the Ming Dynasty (October 13, 1656), the Qing army attacked the Zhoushan Islands with more than 400 large and small warships. Ruan Jun and other generals who were stationed on the island at that time fought against them. Ruan Jun led fifty warships to victory on the first day, but was surrounded by a trap the next day. In the end, he was unable to fight anymore and detonated the gunpowder on the ship and died. During the Double Ninth Festival of that year, Mrs. Ruan, who lived in Xiamen, learned of Ruan Jun's death. Later, she moved into the "Yuzhou Pavilion" to be cared for by Zheng Jun to raise her only son. However, in the seventeenth year of Yongli's reign (1663), the Qing Dynasty and the Dutch allied forces attacked Jinxia, and the two sides fought at Wushatou, Kinmen. Although the Zheng army temporarily won, the situation in Jinxia was still urgent, so the local people, including Mrs. Ruan's family, The soldiers and civilians fled one after another. Finally, Mrs. Ruan's family was lucky enough to evacuate to Tongshan Island where Zheng Jing was located, and escaped the massacre that Geng Jimao later carried out in the Jinxia area. The following year, because the area was difficult to defend, Zheng Jing accepted Hong Xu's suggestion and led more than 7,000 soldiers and civilians to retreat from Tongshan Island to Taiwan, and Mrs. Ruan and her son were also among them. Zheng Jing continued Zheng Chenggong's courtesy to the Ruan family and built a mansion behind the "Yiyuanzi Garden Pavilion" of Prince Mingningjing in Beifang, Chengtianfu Town for them to live in. However, not long after coming to Taiwan, her only son died of illness. After experiencing the pain of losing her husband and son, Mrs. Ruan ate fast and observed the festival in the mansion, and lived alone as a widow. After Shi Lang destroyed Ming Zheng, it is said that Mrs. Ruan was dissatisfied with Shi Lang's move into the palace (today's Datianhou Palace) that had been rebuilt into "Dongning Tianfei Palace" according to King Ningjing's orders, so she changed the original layout of the house to face south. The door of the house was changed to face the west, that is, towards the direction of the Mahathir Palace, and the Feng Shui pattern was deliberately used to control Shilang. After Shi Lang learned about it, he built a screen wall in front of Mrs. Ruan's house to block the evil spirits, which is now the screen wall of Wanfu Temple. After Mrs. Ruan's death, nearby residents converted Mrs. Ruan's residence into a temple, called "Mrs. Ruan Temple". In the 11th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1806), it was renamed "Wanfu Temple". Today's two-story building is the result of the renovation in 1972. At that time, only Zhaobi retained its ancient appearance, but it was also renovated in the 80th year of the Republic of China (1991). As for the reason why Wanfu Nunnery changed from the original monastery to the "Taiwan's Kaiji Qitian Temple", one theory is that the nuns in the nunnery rescued orphans and took in orphans during the Jiaqing period, but many babies were crying and stubborn. Therefore, the Monkey King was worshiped in the nunnery to pray for children to be obedient and healthy. As a result, it later became the Monkey King Temple. Another theory is that there is a strange tree in front of the nunnery, which looks like a monkey climbing the tree, so some people worshiped it and said that it was the Great Sage Qitian who appeared. As a result, Wanfu Temple became the Great Sage Qitian Temple. To this day, there are still believers who come here to pray to the Monkey King, or to let their children become the Monkey King's children, hoping that their children will be obedient and sensible and grow up safely. Wanfu Nunnery is built with brick walls and white mud on the outside. The top is in the form of a double ridge, with the center higher than the two sides, both with swallowtails, and the eaves are decorated with blue background patterns.

(Translated by Google) Wanfu Nunnery, built in the Yongli period of the Ming Dynasty (1647-1683), was originally the residence of Ruan Jun, a general of the Zheng Chenggong Ministry of the Ming Dynasty. After her husband died in battle and her son died of an infectious disease, Mrs. Nguyen turned it into a vegetarian hall, where she recited sutras and worshipped Buddha. Later generations changed his former residence to "Lady Nguyen Temple", where the Guanyin Bodhisattva was enshrined. In the 11th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1806 AD), it was rebuilt and renamed "Wanfu An" after its original name. In the 61st year of the Republic of China, it was not listed as a historic site because it was rebuilt into a new-style temple on the second floor. The mirror wall in front of the Wei Nunnery (Wanfu Nunnery mirror wall), because the original building is preserved, it still has the value of preservation, and it is a national third-level historic site. The screen wall is also known as the screen wall, that is, the wall of the screen door. In order to prevent others from directly peeping or entering the inner room, a wall is built in front of the building for shelter or blocking, and according to Feng Shui, it contains the function of blocking evil spirits. The walls of Wanfu Nunnery are made of red bricks, which are built vertically, and the hundreds of layers of red bricks are built diagonally at 45 degrees. The roof is a double ridge, which is made of thin bricks and lime, and the corner curve is gentle. The general temple is a high dovetail ridge, or single or double, which is a typical ancient building. In front of the Wanfu Temple, there is a 200-year-old banyan tree, and the shape of the bump is like a group of climbing monkeys. According to rumors, because of "the aura of the great Holy Spirit, it gradually formed a bump and shadowed into a small group of monkeys." He was named "Prince of the Monkey Spirit Tree", and the Great Sage Equaling Heaven is also enshrined in Wanfu Nunnery. I passed by and went in to see the exquisite statues of gods. Especially the portrait of the door god has no lines on his face Instead, it is completed with brush strokes that resemble Western techniques, presenting three-dimensional facial features. The decoration on the body is also painted with great ingenuity. It is evident that the artist has profound skills in outlining and filling in colors. The tiles on the second floor floor also amaze me. I can’t help but take pictures. The statues of the Eighteen Arhats are lively and vivid, with extended paintings in the background. It’s a really beautiful temple

There are quite a lot of historical allusions, stories about eating fast and observing festivals, and how the house was converted into a temple. In particular, the reason why it became "Taiwan-wide opening of Qitian Monastery" is even more interesting! !

(Translated by Google) Located in the alley opposite Chikan Tower, it is one of the few temples in Taiwan with Monkey King as the main deity. There is an old banyan tree at the entrance, which is closely related to the main deity of the temple. (Original) 位在赤崁樓對面的巷弄中,是台灣少數以齊天大聖為主神的廟宇,門口有一顆老榕樹,與該廟主神有很大的關聯

Wanfu Temple in Guijing, the capital of Fucheng, is one of the very few temples in Taiwan that worships the Great Sage Qitian. The Great Sage in the temple is not only divided into ranks, but also divided into internal and external positions. Just like officers and non-commissioned officers in a military camp, they all perform their duties. Job! #LikeYellow #Prepare bananas for worship🍌 #Pray that the great sage and humans can treat the monkeys and animals on the mountain well #Yujing agriculture can coexist and be good with the ecology #valuing ecology and animals and sharing the same good #love animals🐒
