Longshan Temple in Taipei is perhaps Taiwan's most well known and busiest place of worship, but packed with tourists. Beautifully painted carvings of dragons and such and paintings are everywhere. The smell of incense permeates the air. Make an offering, light a stick of incense, bow your head, and say a prayer, can't hurt. Lucky charms for various hopes are also for sale. There is even a small garden. This is really a must-see place when visiting Taipei for the first time.

Visited this temple during an interesting ceremony involving tall puppets that are meant to resemble the gods. Its a great place to see cultural heritage of Taiwan when in Taipei, and is also near some night markets. Its also an active worship site so many devotees come here to pray. Definitely one of the most interesting experiences I had in Taipei, would recommend tourists come.

This is a well preserved temple in the middle of the city. Faithfuls are aplenty here to pray for good test results. Like many other temples here in Taiwan, this is a place with hodgepodge of gods, some traditional Buddhism gods, but also some folklore gods that are on display here. You can try your luck by picking a “fate card” and then take it over to a window where someone would decipher the meaning of your card. The location is excellent as it sits right outside of the metro station and close to a night market and some old streets with shops. Some reviews thought this place was sketchy and with many homeless people. I disagree with that assessment as it’s very safe and very few visible homeless people. Those reviewers must not have been to LA, SF or just about any major city in the US where the homeless and crime problems are 100x worse than Taipei. Although this area was the former (not sure about now) red lights district, but the area is really safe as in the rest of this busy city. Finding a parking space close by may require a miracle from one of the gods here, so take the metro and you will thank yourself.

A place with powerful energy. A Buddhist temple is a sacred place, with a special construction of high walls - splendor. When we went inside, there was a feeling of joy, calmness and peace. There are a lot of people around who have come to pray. A special melody sounded, all this left a pleasant impression. Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼

It was my favourite place in all the stops we made in our short visit to Taipei. Welcoming environment, most ppl are very respectful as it's not only a place that tourists may stop but a temple for prayer and meditation. 🙏🏼Come to do both and leave, filled with loved. Be wary, although it's in the middle of the city, there noise is drawn out by high walls. Visit August 2019

The most important temple in Monga, portrayed in so many Taiwanese gangster films. Temple is quite big and beautifully decorated. It gets very crowded during weekends with both locals and tourists. A must see in Taipei.

Such a wonderful experience visiting this temple. It’s not just the sights, but the smell of incense and the sound of the music too. So much detail everywhere you look - you can really spend a long time here just noticing everything. This is definitely a must for anyone visiting Taipei!

Longshan Temple is one of the largest and oldest temples in Taiwan. The most well known temple in Taiwan. Bangka Lungshan Temple~ Lungshan Temple of Manka, Mengjia Longshan Temple) is a Chinese folk religious temple in Wanhua District (alternately known as Bangka/Mengjia), Taipei, Taiwan. The temple was built in Taipei in 1738 by settlers from Fujian during Qing rule in honor of Guanyin. It served as a place of worship and a gathering place for the Chinese settlers. In addition to its Buddhist elements, it includes halls and altars to Chinese deities such as Mazu and Guan Yu.

This Buddhist temple is one of the most famous in Taipei. Once you enter the front gate, in the middle is the main temple but there are alleys around it with many other worship places, all beautifully decorated. Around the temple there are speakers with religious music. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you can spend some time here to enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.

Overly commercialised temple. It’s a temple for tourist to visit but you will never feel the vibes of a real Taoist temple. But their gifts are of good prices so I would recommend you buy some. Very convenient and located near night markets to go.

Visited here 5 years ago. It’s been a while, and it’s still beautiful. Now, there are more brochures to introduce this temple at the entrance. Also sells food and souvenirs by the entrance and exit.

This is a very nice temple. One star subtracted because the area can be sketchy. A lot of homeless. There are different gods that you can pray to. Restrooms are down the stairs but be warned that you may have to grab some toilet paper before going into the stalls.

Beautiful Temple grounds, and outstanding architecture. Due to the location, the tourists were crowding and not allowing proper worship of those attending. If you choose to visit, remember it is still sacred land and to be respectful of those worshiping.

A very beautiful and sacred temple. Very conveniently located next to Lungshan Bannan Line Station. Just two stops from the Taipei Main Station. We have been here both during the day and night which give you different feel. You can feel something very special and good vibes all around while you are in the temple. A must place to visit while you are in Taipei 🙏🏻🇹🇼

Beautiful old temple. There are some cool lanterns on display. As usual there are bathrooms here. There is a small gift shop. Go in mornings to see the devoted praying.

The song like chants of OOOoooometorfu 🙏 and the gentle clanging of gongs n cymbals is what greets one when touring the grounds of the Classical Chinese temple in the district of colourful Mongka and yes this is the district popularised by umpteen Taiwanese movies n dramas of the years gone by (high school dramas or triad gang movies). A district that resounds with the colloquial heartland flavours of Taipei city. This beautiful temple, resplendent in its intricate carvings, stands in the heart of this locality, iconic, quietly respectful but yet awe inspiring. It’s recommended for a quiet night tour as the illuminations allow for a wonderful view of all the beautiful architecture n carvings which make it a truly worthwhile visit. Definitely a worthwhile visit on your itinerary and what’s more there’s lots of yummy local hawker food n fare just beside the temple. Entrance is free of charge but a reminder to be respectful n to observe the etiquette of a place of worship. Souvenirs both blessed or just for gifts can be purchased on site. A good hour n a half in the evening should give one a full perspective of this beautiful n iconic temple in the heart of Taipei 🙏

Probably one of the most iconic temples in Taiwan. There are a few things you need to be aware of (as far as I know): 1. You cannot just sit anywhere in the temple. If you want to sit, the easiest way is to imitate the locals. 2. You can buy many types of amulet that will (probably) protect you from an unfortunate incident or make your business prosper. 3. Taking photos is fine, but please respect the place. Personally I avoided using the flash and making a weird pose. 4. There is free water with a paper cup inside. 5. There is a pond with carps. Do not feed them though.

This has got to be one of the most iconic places of worship in Taipei. It’s highly advisable to go on a morning as it gets too crowded the rest of the day. As for public transport, buses and train station are readily available. Take as much pictures as every nook and crevice is interesting enough.

Architecture: The temple showcases traditional Chinese temple architecture, with intricate details, decorative carvings, and colorful artwork. It features a main hall, side halls, and beautifully landscaped courtyards. The temple is dedicated to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, as well as other deities Visitors are welcome to explore the temple's intricate architecture, observe religious ceremonies, and gain insight into Taiwanese spirituality and traditions. It's a place for both spiritual reflection and cultural appreciation. You can find atm, drinking water machine and toilet here.

Best known place of Worship in Taipei. Best time to visit - mornings or afternoons. Linger here for 30 mins or so, and you would catch one of the prayer ceremonies. Soothing for the soul. See how the Taiwanese are devoted and participate if you can. The area nearby is also quite old-school and you can get a taste of old Taipei. Total time needed - about 1-2 hours.

  • 5/5 Logan S. 1 year ago on Google
Very accessible by metro. Free to enter. Monks were conducting a ceremony inside. It wasn't as crowded as you would think. The waterfalls at the entrance are really cool. Highly recommend.

Rich history and cultural temple. Many people there for praying, brought some charm and if you believe and pray sincerely come heart, it might gives you what you wish after you put in your best efforts. Must visit when in Taipei. At least get the vibe, easily accessible by subway and if it doesn’t suit, then hop back on the subway and one stop to Ximending for shopping, dinning and drinking, no losses.

Once of those must visit places if you’re in Taipei. We were lucky enough to be there when there was a service going on so got to hear and see lots of singing and chanting. The temple itself is very beautiful and well maintained. Highly recommend!

A wonderful temple right off the MRT station. I don't even care for the religion, but the architecture is just so beautiful. I used to fly kites at this temple when I was a kid; this brings back memories.

This is the temple that I will always come to visit when I am in Taipei. The temple is clean. Always full of people, from prayers to tourists. Things are all well displayed with signs of where to start praying and move from which to which. Very well provided with praying items

The most beautiful temple in Taiwan ❤️. Built in the 18 th century and rebuild many times after damage by earthquakes and typhoons. It's dedicated to bodhisattva of mercy, Guanyin. You can appreciate Taiwanese religion in here.

Been a while I visited this temple, it has changed slightly due to covid, such as no more incense at all...you can only pray with your hands closed together and they monitor your body temp. not too crowded as was it use to be, but still good to go.

The must visit place in Taipei. You won't ever feel alone, this temple is always crowded with people. Come visit and pray for your lucky. I visited after Chinese New Year so there are lantern 🏮 decorations still remain. The open hour is 6:00 until 22:00. You also can enjoy fortune teller down below the Longshan Si MRT underground shopping mall.

Worth the visit if you're in the area! There's a beautiful waterfall in the courtyard and the temple itself is quite serene, despite the large amount of people constantly there. It's a fun place to explore and see the intricate architecture and sculpture of Taiwanese temples. Certainly the king of temples in Taipei. Note: Visited prior to COVID

Temple rich in history in close walking proximity to the Mengjia night market worthy a visit for both worshippers and tourist. Highlight for me though has to be the huge concentration of even more food stalls traditionally found set up right out front at the doorsteps any temple in Taiwan.

The temple is a very good destination if you are new here in Taiwan or just visiting as a tourist. The people here are very friendly and welcoming, they house many deities who you can pray to, and the temple sells many types of lucky charms with a reasonable price. The facilities are clean and the view of the temple is serene, relaxes the mind and the heart. If you go here with MRT, it's only 2~3 mins walk from the station, very nearby.

A very religious temple with a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. I find it very beautiful but small. I was expecting a bigger place but nonetheless it was very pleasant seeing so many people praying and devoted to their believe.

The architecture was mesmerizing. Lots of tourists and vendors inside the temple which makes the place a bit too crowded. That being said, this is not a good place to visit in a time of the pandemic.

Bit crowded yesterday, only a few days after CNY that was to be expected. But crowds and lines were well managed and disciplined. One of my favourite temples to visit. First temple I visited in Taiwan on my first trip 20 years ago

  • 5/5 Judy C. 1 year ago on Google
You can just walk in the temple and 拜拜, the temple is extra crowded when it’s a special memorial day. There are lots of vegetarian places around the temple. Just be careful when it’s at night, there are lots of homeless people living around the area, they are usually harmless, but some gets aggressive when begging for money. Pets are allowed as long as you hold them or put them in a trolley.
