Breathtaking backdrops! From the holes of the tunnels to the picturesque river views, everything’s stunning! If you’re a travel photographer, it would be the kind of place you won’t mind staying in for hours just to take snaps of the place. There are so many wonderful subjects to take pictures of. There are also a few food stops here and there.

This trail is so magnificent. We can see natural rocks and blue water flowing under it. And the cave is good too. But the cave is also for cars driving. So we need to be so careful while enjoying the scenery.

Breathtaking place. If you are coming by public bus transport, you can take 302 or 310. 302 actually quite cheap if you pay by easy card and the frequency is higher. Do note that if you want to get helmet, you need to go to puluowan which is in the middle of xikou and yanzhikou stations. We saw quite a few people walking in without helmet so up to you if you want to borrow them.

This place gets so packed with tourists, I literally saw a thousand people walking with helmets to avoid falling rocks while I was there. No rocks fell on my head. I did not wear a helmet. It looked more like a fashion statement. Helmets are free, by the way. You pick them up en route to this location. No parking available. You must have a designated driver that drops you off at the beginning of the trail to pick you up afterwards after the 1KM short walk through caves. Police are stationed there to enforce these rules. Beautiful view, no doubt. Bring a wide angle if you are a photographer. We saw a couple sparrows, but sadly they are disappearing from the are because too many tourists come by and the noise is disruptive to their environment. At the end of the trail is a shop that sells meals with chicken, some ice cream and drinks. Please do not litter. I saw a cup purposefully thrown over the balcony into the canyon and wish I saw who it was so I could tell them off. People like that ruin it for everyone. Spectacular marble to witness. Naturally forming caves are a marvel. The site creates awe but the people gave me a headache.

the views are gorgeous and it makes it seem like you’re in a Chinese 古装剧. It’s a quaint little spot and you get to see a few swallows flying around too. Recommended!

For self-drivers like me, you can’t park anywhere near the entrance of the trail. 2 options based on what I’ve done/seen: 1) Park at Buluowan Terrace, take the Ida Trail from the terrace. The trail is just about 10-15 minutes of non-stop stairs cutting through the greenery from the top at Buluowan Terrace to the bottom road level. You will land at the entrance of a tunnel towards Swallow Grotto trail, just walk about 10 min through the tunnel and you’ll be at the trailhead. 2) If you are pressed for time, drive your car directly to the Swallow Grotto trailhead. You can’t park, but I’ve seen someone get off the car and take photo every few meters while he kept driving his car forward lol. Just make sure your car ain’t blocking any other cars. Anyway, this is my favourite trail in Taroko just because of the sheer majesty of the rock formations! And the turquoise waters flowing through Liwu river are also a sight to behold.

Got to be the best of Taroko Gorge. Breathtaking. We spend 2.5 hours here. Its well worth is. There is 2 superhigh suspension bridge that required permits. If you miss you day trip bus with 310, you can always hop into 302 and tap your easycard at cost of ~25NTD

A scenic walk through the tunnel that was dug out and must admire and respect the people who work on it, when walking through the the tunnel must borrow the helmet from ranger Station because once in a while there will be falling rocks

Very beautiful trail. It is recommended to wear a helmet in case of rocks falls. It is also recommended to have a camera with a good lens, rocks, caves, caverns, waterfalls, you will discover an amazing scenery with huge marble and limestone rocks. The water is grey (at least in summer when the level is low) and it give a peculiar note to the panorama. It is definitely one of the trail to make over there.

I took the train from Taipei Station to Hualien Station some 2 hours east. The purpose was to follow the Taroko Route tourist attraction and maximizing the viewing of these interesting sites: Yanzikou Trail, Tunnel of the Nine Turns. Magnificent! Breathtakingly beautiful! Awesome!

Swallow Grotto Spectacular views; you cannot miss this place if you visit the National Park. Try to see the swallows that have their nest on the grotto wall. There is a cafeteria in the middle of the train where you can get expresso and waffle

Cool route through the gorge with nice views. The route is next to the road so can be driven as well. There is limited parking but you can stop beyond the white lines (much easier with a scooter). Very popular trail with tour groups!

Thousands years of being wash by the Liwu river, port holes resemberling sparrow nest were slowly slowly slowly being formed. Enjoy a walk thru the old road with the sights and sound of the raging river below. Also the semi open caverns were dug out by miners with non power tools back in those days. Imagine the time and labour needed to chisel a road out. Pay homage to the miners who died during the cross island Highway at JinHeng park. Do look out for slow travelling cars passing by and keep to the right side of the road. Not forget to loan a hard hat before walking thru here. Safety Number one!

Truly breathtaking view of the valley and the swallow holes. Unfortunately, it did not rain abit, so we could not see water flowing through these holes. Nonetheless great trail!

An amazing trail indeed. One of the most popular trail in Taroko national park. In Chinese some call this as rat hole trail. The view is magnificent, with the sound of water gushing thru the river natural made caves or grottos found along the trail. Definitely Worth a visit!

This is a beautiful trail along the windy twisty mountain road. We had to bear with an almost 2 hour ride of twists and turns coming from the west before reaching this destination. Beyond the beautiful sights were the ever so peaceful whispers of the swallows flying above us. They were gracefully dancing in the wind, performing their songs of peace which echoed through the gorge. This is a place worth visiting but is better to get here from the east.

A breathtaking attraction that looks straight out of a movie. Photos cannot do this place justice as sounds and smells contribute to the experience as well. (And it looks better in person). Multiple trails so you should do your research and plan a full day for this. Private transportation is limited by the government for several days starting from lunar new year day 2, so you might wanna avoid these days.

A must place to visit by joining the 1 day tour including the Taroko Gorge. The views here is awesome and the walk is long but good pave way all along.

A very pretty site to visit for everyone visiting Hualien. Amazing views and engineering feat to have build a tunnel under the mountain. Was told that the memorial was moved 3 times as the 1st and 2nd one was destroyed by earthquakes.

The best and most iconic trail in Taroko Gorge after Nine Turn Tunnel Trail was closed. This trail was actually the old Highway No.8 (now replaced by a tunnel exclusively for vehicles) interspersed with hand-carved tunnels from where you can overlook the river valley and pot holes on the cliff sides. Everything look better here when it’s still quiet in the Trail, and the only way to avoid the crowds would be being an early bird, and visiting the trial in the very early morning. Lots of Korean tour groups come to this trail in the afternoon.

Beautiful short walk through the tunnel by the river. Walking along cars and scooters so beware but the views are amazing. Don't forget to borrow free helmets 安全帽 at the shop on the way in!

Awesome landforms. Cliffside trail leads mostly via public roads. It makes it easy, but car traffic may be a little unpleasant because of this.
