Awesome service, good location, and most importantly the food here is not only affordable but amazing. It’s modern and interesting for its style. Definitely one of the best izakaya spots in town. If you are looking for some light cocktails and shared plates, this is the place.

This eatery is not a typical Japanese dinning place but serves “creative” cuisines. It closes to MRT Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station, the foodies’ hunting district, the dishes they presented definitely impress you. Remind: they don’t serve water but order bottle of sparkling water or mineral water instead

This is an izakaya I would say is taking a popular Japanese cuisine genre and adding a fine dining twist with tasty results. Beef tongue, short rib steak over rice, katsu sando, and salad were delightful, refreshing, and healthy tasting to boot. If you are looking to get away from the typical loud, boisterous izakaya, this place offers a reprieve and allows for some nice, easy conversations. Ever seen the anime Shokugeki no Soma? Then you'll love the presentation of Yamasan's dishes. Would definitely eat here again!

Really nice restaurant, all dishes are tasty and sake is good too. Whole feeling is cozy and comfortable. However the price is little bit high if you want to have drink here. Recommend!

Had a great get together with friends at 山男 last Saturday. Food isn't your typical Taipei izakaya (boring) fare, every single dish was innovative, playful, and most importantly, delicious. Even plating was top notch, I felt at times I was at a French fusion restaurant rather than an izakaya. Excellent service and reasonable prices round off this very strong recommendation, go try 山男 asap!

Food quality really good, all the dish was really good presented and test delicious Dish arrive really fast, can be positive or maybe negative ( we feel eat to fast). Recommend if someone like to try innovative izakaya

Great ambiance, food, and service. Nice presentation. Note for two you'll likely spend around 1500nt each, so approaching or approached fine dining prices. Loved it.

Very impressive dining experience. Yamasan reminds me of what I have tried in Mume, one of top 50 Asian restaurants; yet even better with its affordable price. They serve creative cuisine with local ingredient. With small portion for each dish, you can have lot more choices at the same time. Everything’s perfect over all. By the way, the lemon cake in the picture is my favorite one of the day. It’s not yet on the menu but you may ask for if there’s a birthday boy or girl. They take credit card.

The food portion is tiny but the tastes are generally good. A nice place for a date night.

This place should be listed on Michelin Guide. That food are gorgeous and pretty. We had the shredded ice cream with cookies for the dessert and it is my favorite one during the visit.

Revisited Yamasan recently since they first opened few years ago. Happy to say its dishes are still just as good as before, each course is exquisite and delicious. Can't wait to go back.

“Izakaya” though more than any authentic ones per those in Tokyo. Yamasan adds a twist of fine dining and farm-to-table element, using ingredients where diners can trace the source. The wine is natural and ambience chill. It’s a place for good food and good conversations.

The skewers are amazing (必點雞串和豬頰肉!). Sake pairing is also wonderful. I was very disappointed with the pork chop sandwich. (Dry and where is the promised peanut butter???). Overall a great vibe.
