mosque

Dushanbe,

Worshippers
at
the
same

biggest
in
the
city
before
the
new
mosques
was
built
on
Karamov
street.
The
mosque
is
named
in
honour
of
Haji
Yakub,
whose
full
name
is
Yaʻqūb
ibn
ʻUthmān
ibn
Maḥmūd
Ghaznavī
Charkhī.
Yaqub
Charkhi
was
born
in
Ghazni,
Afghanistan
in
1361.
He
studied
in
Bukhara
and
Samarkand.
He
traveled
extensively
and
spread
the
teachings
of
the
Naqshbandi
movement,
which
was
one
of
the
largest
Sufi
Muslim
orders
in
the
Timurid
period.
He
was
well
known
in
Central
Asia
in
particular,
and
on
his
death
in
1447,
it
is
reported
that
he
was
buried
in
the
village
of
Halfetu,
5
km
south
west
of
Dushanbe.The
tomb
complex
is
known
as
Mawlana,
and
is
a
site
of
pilgrimage.
