The Yamchun Fort is definitely the most beautiful historical fort in all of Tajikistan. A reasonably preserved ruin that stands in a breathtaking landscape. It is not hard to imagine why the fort was built at this point along the Silk Road. Magnificent, so don't skip it!

Yamchun Fortress is the best preserved of all fortress in Wakhan Valley. The fortress is not in great shape, but given that it sits on top of a highly eroded hill in an area prone to earthquakes and landslides, it is a marvel that it is still standing. Originally built in 300 BC (or 100 BC according to some sources), Yamchun overlooks large swathes of the Wakhan Valley, and large sections of the Hindu Kush mountains in the northernmost Afghan territories.

Fantastic location, unspoiled

Great view point for Wakhan Valley. Also amazing piece of the history of the region. Not easily acessible but woth the effort. Different of what we know from western culture. Think of how remote the place was in the previous times and of the logistics of the plce than you will get full view of how secluded the fortress was.

Could not get the car to this fortress. Only a walking trail. Nice views along the road from Bibi Fatima Hot Springs.
