The
Tajik
Sea
(Kayrakum)
is
the
man-made
reservoir
in
the
Ferghana
ValleyKairakkum
reservoir,
begins
20
km
from
Khujand,
stretching
50
km
to
the
east.
This
artificial
lake
was
created
in
the
50s
of
the
XX
century
to
install
a
hydroelectric
power
station
and
regulate
the
flow
of
the
Syr
Darya.
Since
our
country
has
no
outlet
to
the
world
ocean,
therefore
we
often
call
it
the
"Tajik
Sea".
In
numbers,
the
Kairakkum
reservoir
looks
quite
impressive:
55
km
long,
20
km
wide,
25
meters
deep,
and
the
total
water
volume
is
4.2
km3.
In
addition,
in
cold
winters,
the
Kairakkum
reservoir
freezes,
and
in
summer,
the
air
temperature
near
the
coast
is
30-35
