I can't appreciate this art, sorry for that. There is only 1 artwork here, which is a big dome with nothing inside, but water popping from the floor. Photos are not allowed, and I understood why after visiting. Scenery outside is worth more considering the price (beautiful scenery from the top of the island; but no place to sit, see from road). It might sound harsh, but I wonder if there is hysteria from people who say here is one "best place," or here is one place "to feel calm and nature." It is more like a bias to make you feel good from making the wrong decision to spend a lot of money and several hours coming here. If you want calm, just go outside this place, there are many quiet places in nature on this island. Or actually, they just want to trap people to face what they faced?  This is one biggest mistake on my trip. * To make it clear the place itself is not that bad. But the cost; it would take you About 3-4K for transportation, +almost 2K for entrance ticket. It also took one whole day; you may have to wait for hours for the next ferry. And after that cost, they won't allow you to take photos for your memory. I hope you understand why I was disappointed

This contains one of the single most beautiful artworks I have ever seen in my life hands down. Having travelled quite extensively, seeing many museums and art galleries this is... something else. The main building in itself is pure art, and does not try to be anything else. It does not contain art for it is, itself the art. The building interior morphs every second depending on who is inside, how much time has passed, what time of day or season it is... it is one experience that is constantly changing, and therefore never the same. We spent a good two or more hours just witnessing, meditating and being a medium within the art museum, and I would do back everyday if I could. Highly recommend.

It was one of the best museums I’ve ever seen. It’s located near the sea. The view from the garden is breathtaking. It has three small buildings which look like a part of the ground. Walking from the reception building along the path, you’ll find a main building. It’s not allowed to take a picture inside of the building, so audiences were focused on what they felt and what they saw. It’s an awesome combination of the architecture and art, I hadn’t thought there was such a great museum in such a calm island. I visited here on the weekend, plus it was three days holiday in Japan and Chinese new year, but it was not crowded and very calm. It also has a nice cafe where you can enjoy some local food and drinks.

(Translated by Google) The bicycle parking lot was already full for only two cars, and the space for the car was rattling, so when everyone tried to line up there, the old man in the light van came down and began to pay close attention. When I looked closely, it didn't seem to be a staff member, so when I tried to check with the staff at the reception, I got in a car and went somewhere. I felt uncomfortable, and I felt a little subtle, but on the way back, the space for the bicycle parking lot was wide, so I think I wanted this to be dealt with sooner. By the way, since it is the Toyoshima Museum of Art that I've always wanted to visit, I changed my mind and looked at it. First of all, I felt My feet are cold! Since it is a concrete floor, it is natural that it gets cold when it gets cold, but my feet are cold because I take off my shoes and enter. The staff seemed to be wearing slippers with a heel. Once inside, everyone is stuck to some extent. I was wondering if there was anything, but it seemed that everyone was just in the sun. Why was the staff careful not to go if a Japanese person went to see it after a foreigner went to a small plate to see it? Is there somewhere off limits? I didn't write such a thing anywhere, so I didn't want to be careful and couldn't move much. Perhaps those who were at the same time felt the same, after which no one went there. Is the staff a volunteer? And I was wondering if there are other similar things as well as this famous concrete one, but this one also has a similar cafe space. There are, but basically this is the only one. There are many rules that are not visible on the whole, and some people may feel suffocated. Maybe it's because my feelings have increased because of the old man who was at the beginning.

Amazing structure. I wouldn’t call it a museum, more an art installation. What drags the review down is that we felt constantly monitored and no photos allowed. We are adults and can handle ourselves, I think only people who are truly interested visit the artwork since it such off site. We are not people who just drop in. It’s is not easy nor cheap to get there and would have been nice to at least be able to take one photo inside. I don’t think that would have hurt the serenity. Difficult to plan with communication to and from the island so have a good plan before going.

This review is not for the museum itself, which is lovely, but for one of the guards working there. He approached both me and my friend and asked us not to take photos. His manner was very aggressive. Neither of us were taking photos nor were we about to. He didn't approach anyone else and I believe that his actions were anti-foreigner. His confrontational manner and accusatory tone ruined our experience at the museum, especially as they were in such great contrast to the peaceful atmosphere.

It was the best masterpiece I have ever seen! Better than all Naoshima galleries. You must plan as much time as possible, you can do re-entry too. Every minute it looks different! I would like to see it on the rainy day too - it should be looking even more interesting! Pros: have warmer socks and consider renting the bike or taking the bus from Teshima ports.

This museum is truly a special and peaceful place. The building is an amazing work of art which fuses architecture in nature in a very pleasing way. The acoustics of the place allow one to immerse themselves in the art. This is the perfect place to sit down and relax while enjoying your surroundings. You are not allowed to take photos or draw with ink inside the museum but there are viewpoints outside that let you see the building in its entirety along with the surrounding rice fields. The museum cafe is also quite good and offers some locally grown products in it’s dishes. This museum truly blew my mind and I couldn’t recommend it any more highly to anyone who is a fan of art or architecture. Please give yourself time to enjoy the space and take in your surroundings once inside you will not regret it!

A one of a kind art experience. Online photos make no justice the the emotions this place is able to transmit. We frequently visit museums all over the world and this was truly unique. Make sure you book in advance. It is not really a museum, more of an art installation.

It is difficult to describe this museum. It is in all honesty one of those places, you have to see for yourself. For my part I will say that I cried when I was inside the installation. It was breathtaking.

It wouldn’t take much of time to see whole museum. Probably 30-60min is enough for museum but could stay more if you want to explore some nature there. Reservation in advance is necessary. You have to plan well boat time and shuttle bus time beforehand otherwise need to wait few hours easily as the transportations are not frequent.

Amazing art space and such a great experience! You need to make quite an effort to get to this place but it is well worth it! Great combination of art, architecture and nature. Make sure to bring enough time. This place should not be enjoyed in a hurry. The cafe is also very nice.

Some were lying down with their eyes closed, some were meditating, and some were reading. It's a work to watch silently, so it is recommended to visit alone or with someone who is comfortable even in silence ♩ The terraced rice fields are close to the museum, and the route to the museum's works is soothing with a good view. (Translated by Google) As soon as I entered the art gallery, I walked into Lin Yingzhong and followed the road to admire the entire periphery of the art gallery. Next to it is the four seas. The art gallery and the sea echo each other. After reaching the entrance, everyone took off their shoes and walked into the art gallery in an orderly manner. , Is a white space that is not long and wide and has a long echo. Everyone has a tacit understanding of quiet dialogue, which makes the whole museum full of insects and running water. Because the museum is integrated into the mountains, the floor will appear many The cute little water drops (mountain spring water) can avoid them, lie down and meditate and let go. Must-visit attractions here 🌿 (Original)

Experience was absolutely ruined by a very rude staff member who targeted foreigners and very rudely told us not to take pictures multiple times, even though we were not taking pictures. He did not say anything to Japanese people. Foreign visitors beware; I would not visit again and would not recommend. Also, this shouldn’t be called a “museum”… it’s one art installation, which is actually pretty cool if the atmosphere was not ruined by the staff, but a museum it is not!

One of the most sublime places in the world. This is a huge statement but the quiet, brilliant, and life-affirming nature of this art installation is impossible to overstate. You can find details elsewhere, but I would advise going with as little knowledge as possible and gradually take in the engineering and artistry and then spend time, short or long, enjoying the compelling philosophical implications of this monumental but simple place. It is a monastery of emotion and thought. Engage well and you’ll end up considering your place in this world.

Great natural rice fields and view to the sea. You should either take the bus to Art Museum-mae or ride an electric bike there. Leave your bags in coin lockers because small movements can create loud echoes inside. Only downside to this is that you can't take photos inside. But the water artwork is amazing. Sit for at least a few minutes to listen to the cicadas and birds. Great for meditation. ¥1030 entry fee ¥154 per postcard ¥510 for strawberry jam (if I remember correctly :)

Beautiful serene cave of wonder, wind, natural views through the portals and the ebb and flow of water as it drifts across the floor. No photos or shoes allowed inside & no talking or noise of any kind. Visitors staggered to retain integrity of a quiet & contemplative visit. Wonderful views of the coast from around the facility.

No photos inside the museum but it was 😳🤯 Basically there was water on a concrete floor that wasn't completely flat so from time to time the water would move, coagulate, and drain out. Sounds lame when you describe it but it was lit 🔥

Amazing. There are no words. 1. Careful walking as to avoid stepping on the water and orbs (part of the art) 2. Stay perfectly quiet and still and the experience will unfold 3. Even the gift shop is an experience in itself

It is probably best described as a rather big enterable sculpture. The ambiance it creates with its minimalist curved roof, the water dripping out of numerous tiny holes in the uneven ground, the sunlight interacting with it and the echos that follow every sound is quite interesting. But as a whole, I think they are taking themselves a bit too seriously for what is basically a big water and sound playground. That you are not supposed to take pictures inside is probably a good thing, since otherwise people would do almost nothing else (at least I would have taken a lot more than the few candid pics I did). But one of the staff saying that you are not allowed to drink (natural water in this case) because it will spoil the purity of the water in the place felt a bit over the top. All in all, an interesting space that is maybe a bit too limited by the forced meditative/contemplative ambiance they are going for.

Breath taking installation, definitely worth the slightly expensive ticket price. Lovely walk with great views followed by an experience I will never forget. You walk into what seems like a giant dome, the scale of it is mind boggling. Little drops of water come out of the ground and slowly trickle down on beautiful formations. Only the sound of the water can be heard. It’s cool inside, nice for some meditation or a short nap. The other building is smaller and has a nice cafe that serves until 16:30. All in all a lovely place. Don’t miss it.

Not really an art museum but a single large artwork: a shallow concrete dome, the floor of which is spotted with moving puddles of water. The artwork is extremely impressive and worth the entrance fee and the journey to Teshima specifically to see it. The ban on photography is welcome because the artwork is so visually appealing that if there were no ban the place would be full of people constantly snapping photos. As it is, it is pleasant to wander about quietly taking it in, and watching other visitors who are equally mesmerised by the motion of the water.

Really wonderful and unique experience. The Teshima Art Museum is one of the most interesting works I’ve visited, and allowed you to really feel connected to your surroundings and nature. There aren't many museums in the world that you can go to that have literally one installation but Teshima Art Museum (and Matrix - which is the installation) is a transcendent experience that's worth the time. What awaits you is a mix of art and engineering that forces you to meditate and take in everything at once. Not recommended for folks who want to get an Instagram picture in.

Beside the architecture itself, there’s nothing more than beads of water inside this museum. Yet you wouldn’t believe just those water droplets flowing freely around the space separating and rejoining one another would make you so emotional.

It’s truly an experience unknown to me before. Teshima itself is a beautiful island, and the museum adds something extra. The beads flow, depart and reunite simply under the influence of gravity and wind, I would very much like to spend time observe the movement of them. Together with me today is a little butterfly, it looks so calm and an introvert just like me, only agitated when water soaked its wings. It still stayed there in the sun spot when I left. I think it’s beautiful. And I support the idea that no picture is allowed here.

(Translated by Google) This is my favorite museum. It's a place where you can feel that art isn't something to set up, it doesn't give off a strong personality, it's born from assimilating yourself with nature.

(Translated by Google) Since I arrived at a distant port, I wanted to move by bus, but I had to wait for an hour, so I moved by ferry. There is a good slope distance from the port. Tickets were on weekdays so I bought them directly on site without reservation. I sat and watched it all the time, but I never get tired of it. What if it rains? It seems that you can lend me slippers. There were tables and chairs on the lawn, so I was able to enjoy watching the rice terraces and the sea. The ticket price seems high, but it was a place I wanted to visit again.

(Translated by Google) This time, I visited with a parent-child appreciation program for 0 to 6 years old. I couldn't go to the museum because my children were making noise and wandering around, but this program was almost reserved with other parents and children, so I could enjoy it comfortably. Since it was a program in front of the hall, I had to take the first ferry to the island, so it was hard to get up early, but the children also enjoyed it very much! The exhibition itself was very interesting, so I would like to visit again during normal business hours when my child grows a little bigger.

(Translated by Google) It was a place I wanted to visit once! It is a museum where you can fully use all five senses such as sight, hearing, and touch. What is nature? What are you feeling in this place? I was made to think about such a thing. The scenery outside the museum is also beautiful with the sea and rice terraces, and you can see it all the time. I'm glad that the staff were also nice. I want to go again someday!
