I was excited to try a showa style kissaten. But the coffee tasted really stale, like it was left in the pot for a while. Quite undrinkable honestly, and for a price of 570 yen...it's was so bad. The whole shop seems to be relying on it's nostalgia for business. It's a cool vibe but there are a lot of other showa style shops for the same price that actually taste good. As long you get anything that doesn't require any actual skill to make i guess it's ok.

First of all this isn’t the best place for tourist. And isn’t meant for tourists either. I find japanese people are very nostalgic. Every detail of this restaurant reminds me of Showa era. The taste, the decorations, the uniforms and even the old lady at cashier (not very friendly but very Osaka lol) So if you are looking for something « modern », you will be disappointed. But if you like to see how Japanese cafe looked like in Showa era, I would definitely recommend this place.

This place is shocking! Coffee is no special. Cakes are below par, surprised because this is Japan. I went there end of june 2023, there were spider webs dangling on the chandelier, near the entrance. Maybe they are still there if you go there today! Then as we were about to leave, I saw a tiny cockroach crawling on the seat my mom was sitting. When told, the waitress only said a brief sorry with a smile on her face, not apologetic at all. The reason we went there because we were tired we needed to sit down. LOL. Bad choice! HUGE REGRET!!

I took my Japanese friends from here that were visiting Osaka. The elderly lady running the shop was very impolite. When we first greeted, we were told to find our own seat. Secondly, the previous customer's garbage was still left in the seated area. Thirdly, the elderly lady running the shop said with a snarly manner, 'one person, one order!.' My Japanese friends were taken back by her rude intonation and demeaning tone. In my opinion, there are many more options in and around Namba where you can be treated well, get better service, and enjoy better sweets at a more affordable price. Sadly, my Japanese friends were taken back by the substandard service and I felt embarassed for even suggeting to go there.

Established in 1942 , before I start to eat , I feel like travelling in a time machine and back to showa period. Wait for 30 mins for the food to come , then nightmare began, only 1 piece of ham inside Napoleon spaghetti. Literally 1 piece. Coffee is ok though. Anyone enter this place remember you are paying to visit the restaurant because of its history, not for the food. Then you will enjoy .

Like stepping back in time! Loved the decor and feel inside. Downside as a non smoker is that smoking is OK in here. Had the hotcake set, very tasty... but quite small if hungry.

In a weird craving for pancakes, we ended up at this cafe. The pancakes themselves were fantastic. Fluffy and rich, and absolutely loaded with butter. The space is beautiful too - there's a stunning chandelier as you walk in and the decor is very retro. There are stories about the staff getting upset if you try and take a picture so be careful - I grabbed one on my way out, so I can't say if they were mad. Price is a bit high, and there is smoking everywhere. Be warned.

Delightful cafe to stop and take a break in. They have an amazing assortment of desserts & drinks. During out visit we ordered the... 'Bear Cake' 🐻🍰 'Fruits A La Mode' 🍉🥝 'Watermelon Frappe' 🍉🍧 all the items were delicious and very cute! This cafe is definitely worth a stopping at when visiting.

Retro kissaten/diner combination in Osaka. I tried the american toast set and the hot cakes. The interior is super nice.

Very cute cafe with a very old fashioned American style vibe. They have a large selection of cakes, parfaits, drinks and some savory options as well. The waitresses even wear traditional outfits!

Super retro Japanese style “Kissa-ten (cafeteria). Great antique designs, coffee and traditional “hot cake (pancakes) is simple and the best. Reasonable and nice place to rest and refresh.

Overpriced. Poor quality food. Would not revisit again. Highly Not recommended. They serve Curry Sauce rice. No meat in the curry. Ripped off!

👍👍 Go to the basement floor which has all kinds of food stalls and specialty stores. Go there an hour before closing and most of the packaged food items will be discounted like 30% or Y300 off. It’s great deal for budget travel. They also have very good yogurt drinks and other bakery items.

👍👍 Had to wait ~15 min to enter at 10am on a Friday. The beef curry rice was ok. The pancake was nothing special, borderline disappointing. The cafe au lait was decent though. The star of the show was the french toast. It has this melt in your mouth sensation which was quite unique. Felt like eating...
