Everything about this place feels premium. We are just 1 night into a 2 night stay and loving it so far. We felt welcomed as accor elites and were upgraded to a privilege room on level 7, the staff are still a little green and forgot to charge for the second night (I was honest so I went down to pay when I realised I paid too little). The water and cakes are a nice touch (accor silver and gold benefit?). 2 parking stations on the same street, closest for 1,200 yen for 12 hours and the other one a little further up (just past the station) was 1,000 yen for 24 hours, but was full we we arrived. We did what everyone else did and parked opposite the hotel to offload luggage and then park. Room is big and extremely clean, love the product they give and the bamboo room keys - seems very sustainable. The bed is nice and firm and there are nespresso coffee pods in the room. With the onsen on level 9, all towels are in the change room, it was snowing when I was bathing which was magical. There are yukata in the rooms. Breakfast was amazing, everything again felt premium. I loved the Hida beef curry, the local grilled Hida chicken and the freshly shaved parmesan cheese wheel. Everything at breakfast was good. The filter coffee was nice and so we're the pastries. So far I would definitely return. Second night was fine, breakfast was just as good as the first day, and the onsens were just as quiet as the first night. Ok the second night I parked at the 1,000 yen for 24 hours further up and although water is sprayed on the ground, no one scrapes off the ice from your car (I used a water bottle to do it, as I couldn't find a scraper nearby). When I was trying to get out, no one let me out so I got stuck in ice in the exit, luckily 3 kind locals helped me out - so it you park at the cheaper park, be prepared to exit the parking lot in one fluid movement or risk getting stuck in ice. We were not able to load luggage at the hotel as they were service vans blocking the parking area. We did the very scummy thing and parked at the restaurant next door and loaded up our luggage there (luckily no one was there as the restaurant opens at 11).

Brand new hotel at a great price! It was a little risky booking here since there wasn’t a lot of reviews but it’s been totally worth it. The asthetic is beautiful, everything works great, great views and the onsens are clean. I wasn’t able to record the public one but here’s a look at the private one for 1900¥ for 45 minutes. It is quite hot so be warned :). However you don’t need the private onsen because the public one is stunning. You get 3 onsens for male and female and 2 are outdoors on the rooftop with 1 being inside. I went right at 6 am and had it all to myself which was just breathtaking. It looks even better than the computer generated photos on their site! The reception was quite friendly and spoke good English and we tried to speak some Japanese also so no issues there. 2 minute walk from the station I really think this is a hidden gem. Book it now and visit takayama before it goes up! Insta: @curious.clint

This is a very nice hotel with a great and unique interior design that matches the country side of Japan. When we visited the hotel it was newly opened and we enjoyed our stay for the whole time. It feels very homey and has a very good ambience. The rooms are bigger than the average size equipped with all the necessities. The breakfast is very delicious and offers a lot options that you can start the day well. Their customer service is friendly and respectful, providing help whenever needed.

An impressive hotel with comfortable beds, facilities, onsen, great buffet breakfast, nice lobby bar & good soundproof in rooms. Wonderful to see attention to detail & sustainability by highlighting local Hida culture in design (lots of beautiful wood) & high-quality amenities in reusable and plastic free packaging. Even mineral water available in aluminum containers instead of usual plastic which can be recycled at a high value (plastic can't) or easily used & refilled while traveling around the town.

Beautiful hotel with a classy wooden design. Room of the hotel is spacious, with a comfortable bed. I like the security of the hotel, where one is required to tap the card key to gain access to different parts of the establishment, including the onsen. The onsen is available from 3pm, and it comes with an outdoor bath, which adds to its aesthetic appeal. The hotel is located a short walk away from Takayama train station. You can find a number of restaurants and convenience stores in the vicinity. It is also near the bus station, where you can hop onto the local bus to get to the folk village and other attractions.

Rooms were very comfortable. Staff were polite and helpful. Particularly enjoyed the onsen on level 9 of the hotel. Breakfast was pretty decent with a good selection of asian and western choices

The hotel is newly opened and is very close to the station. The staff, who speak Japanese, English and Chinese, are professionally helpful. There’s a fireplace where you can warm up at the entrance; however, the hotel is already unpleasantly heated up that I was still feeling hot even in T-shirt. There’s a public onsen on the 9th floor for free. The private onsen (¥1900 for 45 mins) was very good but super hot. The room is not too small, just a regular hotel room. The room has no bathtub (other rooms might have I suppose). There buffet is great and Muslim-friendly where pork dishes are highlighted. (Muslims don’t eat chicken, beef and mutton either unless it’s Halal. It’d be helpful to write “halal” if the meat is. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

One of the best Mercure hotels with such local and western fusion throughout its design, services and offerings. Impeccable facilities - private onsen is amazing. Location is super close to station - great for hida takayama travellers. Wonderful reception team. Money well spent!

This newly established hotel boasts excellent amenities. The onsen, open from 6 am until late at night, offers a delightful experience. Private onsen reservations are available for 45 minutes at a reasonable price (approximately 1,900 yen). The breakfast is also wonderful, offering a wide variety that includes both Japanese and Western cuisine.

One of the best lodgings in Japan. New building, interior decoration is throughly done with a hint of Scandinavian, and one staff is French native with fluent Japanese. Bar tender and restaurant staff are experienced too. I felt lots of professionalism here and no fruatration from the hotel. I will come back again.

Really liked this hotel. Believe it was recently renovated so everything looks very new. Really nice modern look but also a lot of wood accents. Large room in comparison to a lot of the hotels in the major cities. They have public onsen for guests but they also have 2 private onsens that you can’t rent for 45 minutes at a time. This is great if you wanted to use the onsen with your partner. The public onsen has one indoor and 2 outdoor. The private has one pool but there is a set of sliding glass panel doors which open up all the way so that the indoor onsen becomes outdoor. Nice open lobby with a fire pit and a large selection for breakfast which was included in our stay. Would stay here again for sure. Conveniently located close to the train station. About 4 mins walk away. About 12 min walk from old town Takayama,

We were very happy with our stay at Mercure Hida Takayama. Beautiful hotel with large rooms. Highly recommend booking the private onsen. We also enjoyed our conversation with & drinks from the hotel’s friendly & talented bartender, Kenta.

Lovely hotel. Lovely staff. We came to celebrate our honeymoon and they were very nice. The rooms are perfect (new and elegant). The onsen is marvellous. Perfect location nearby the train station and sorrounded by restaurants.

I recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The location is amazing - super close to the train and bus station. It also is very close to the attractions we saw in Takayama. The rooms are wonderful and so comfortable.

One of the best hotels we stayed in Japan, It looked fresh and new the staff was very helpful and welcoming, our favorite part was the Onsen, but the room itself was sparkly clean, spacious and comfortable, great breakfast, and a nice bar. I really have a good rest in this hotel, not too expensive and it totally worth it. It will definitely be my first option next time in Takayama.
