A great café with delicious plates, a beautiful place, easy to find, with food, coffee and Hida milk. A place known for those who watched Hyouka. You'll find a good place to rest here.

Cozy Coffee Overall Enjoyment (+1): Quiet, quirky interior. Great coffee, nice employees. Cakes were average. Overall, the interesting interior and coffee quality won me over. Value (0): Two small slices of cake and two coffees for close to $20USD. A tad high in my opinion. Environment (+1): Quirky, interesting interior as I mentioned above. Various clocks and cuckoo clocks on the walls, I found myself looking around at all the wall decorations. Quality (+1): Great coffee! The baked cheesecake was quite good as well. Though I'm not sure if any of it is made there. Service (+1): No complaints here. Nice, prompt, and courteous.

The Bagpipe is an interesting combination of English country decoration and lunchroom crossed with a tearoom and a very limited Pub (local beer). It is small. The food was excellent. The mixed sandwiches my wife had were the best tea sandwiches I have ever had. I had a mustard ham salad which was really tasty. We had a very good cheesecake and chocolate cake for desert. It is not what you might think (Haggis and Scotch?) but it is still very good.

The old but cozy cafe is located nearby the bridge. If you feel tired of walking in the old street in Takayama, this cafe is your nice choice to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in your exhausting trip.

Try the baked apple. Its takayama apple baked till soft like in apple pie. Only locals patronize.

Very nice, but overpriced for the size of the cake. Also no soy, almond or oat milk option for the hot chocolate/cocoa which there is no good reason to not have available Edit (9/9/2019) reduced to 3 stars because the waitress who I was served by this time ignored me and didn't say any words in response to me when handing me food or anything, despite me speaking completely in correct Japanese. I said arigatou gozaimasu many times with no response, and when I asked for water, no "hai" or any response. Extremely rude.

Cute café with an rustic english vibe and for some reason jazz, great cakes with coffee and some homemade seasonal fruit juices (strawberry juice in spring insanely good 🥰).

Absolutely not welcome to western tourists. The lady was impolite, and looked offended to see western people in her cafe.

Nice place, tidy and stylish. But the coffee is not great, and both the cheesecakes we tasted were sad and boring.

We only went for a snack in the afternoon. The place is super chill and nicely decorated with some antiques. The shakes and drinks we had were nicely prepared. The music was cool too. It was very nice to stay there to relax for a while.
