This place is really cute and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. We were lucky to get a table during lunch time on a weekday. Our waitress was so sweet and provided us with a cute little paper to explain how to enjoy soba in English. We ordered two bowls of hot soba - one with wild vegetables and one with tempura. Both sobas were really delicious. The noodles were alright, nothing out of this world (to me). Maybe we should have tried their cold soba because it seems that is what they are most famous for. Sorry, I know I'm a noob! Anyway, I loved the broth of both and found them to be very rich in taste and not heavy at all. The tempura was also so fresh, light, and really flavorful. The mushrooms in the winter vegetable soba were especially delicious. A wonderful place!

Very friendly staff and service! My kids love the hot soba (Kake and Shrimp tempura) and I love the cold soba! I also loved the soba pudding! We lined up before it opened knowing there could be a queue and there was, we got in, 2nd in line!

Great customer service, and we received a beautiful “comic” gift explaining how to eat our soba.

The hot soba is very nice and noodle cooked “al dente”. Tempura was fried just nice. Oldest soba shop in Hida.

Very nice place, ask to sit at the lower tables, one table has a little garden view (see the pictures) They have a vegetarian menu. I took soba noodles with mushrooms. The soba and mushrooms were really good, the broth on the other hand, was OK. I recommend to take the warm sake and the soba pudding. They are both really good! Also - this restaurant had no line. Important to know in this area

I tried the soba and my bf Udon, both were super rich in flavour. Tempira was Tastatur and not too greasy, we loved everything

We were here on a Wednesday morning in Feb 2023. I'd recommend coming early to queue before they open, as a line formed shortly after we arrived. There's a tatami area where shoes have to be off, but if you prefer, there are a few tables where you can eat without removing footwear. Another reason to come early. I'm not a Soba expert so I can't say I know the good ones from the average. But myself and my family all agreed the handmade Soba was delicious. Some of us felt the tempura prawn was exceptional, springy and fresh! If you have a Soba craving, this place should leave you satisfied.

Lovely place! First and foremost, part of the staff was quite adept in English (and extremely friendly as well), which made things easier. Also, they have a separate vegetarian menu (~3-4 items), which you need to ask for. When the term vegetarian was mentioned, they were also asking about other dietary restrictions and wete quite nice about it :). In general, they serve both hot and cold soba, as well as tempura. We tried the cold soba + tempura (non-veg) and a vegetarian soba soup with grated yam. Both delicious and the tempura was fried quite nicely (3 vegetarian tempura and one shrimp). The soup was also great! Next to the great food our highlight was that we received a mini-manga (their own) describing how to eat soba, which we were allowed to keep :). The experience was overall great and we got what we asked for and even more! Highly recommend and would love to revisit!

The curry udon was well seasoned with just the right amount of heat. They added chives to the dish which was really tasty. Noodles were springy and long so we were grateful for the plastic bibs.

This place is amazing! I never write reviews but this oDespite being located in the old part of town full of tourists it keeps its charm and the food is sooo good <3 We had soba soup, tempura and soba pudding - everything was tasty and fresh and we loved it :) Also, the restaurant is vegetarian and vegans friendly which is not so obvious in Japan. Arigato!

There was a queue during lunch time but the waiting time was short. Friendly staff with English menu. Tourists price for soba but it was delicious!! Too bad the soba pudding was sold out ...

Fantastic place. Wonderful udon and fresh home made soba noodles. I loved the instructions for how to eat cold soba. Free tea was provided and the tempura was delicious. Sad to see they didn’t have late night hours we wanted to go back for dinner!

Waited 30mins for them to open after watching them prepare through the windows. The soba is freshly made. It has been since the day they first opened which was a century ago. I had tororo soba one other time in Hakone and it was amazing, been missing it since. Glad to have it again here with the homemade soba. We also tried tororo udon, and that was really good too. Love the taste of craftsmanship, dedication and perfection that comes with their food.

Very nice typical japanese place. Soba is outstanding and it is home made. You have also a manga explaining you how to get the best taste from your soba. I hope to come back there again!

The best hot soba we have had on our journey. They were kind enough to customize the brilliant flavours to our vegetarian taste buds. Service was good and the staff was kind. Food was very tasty and the ambiance brilliant.
