We had the best Ryokan experience here. The room was very clean and classic looking. The temperature of Onsen was just right. Both Okami san (the lady) and the young gentleman at the front desk gave us the best Omotenashi (service). The place has a laundry / dryer room and it was very helpful. The location is great (8 mins walk from Takayama station and 5 mins walk to Asaichi - the morning market). We only ordered breakfast, but it was beautifully presented and very tasty. Thank you so much for the great time in Takayama. We’d love to come back!

Great ryokan with a great staff. The place is decorated beautifully and the rooms are nicely laid out. The breakfast was tasty and varied, which was a highlight. It’s very conveniently located and easily accessible. An overall wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone.

Lovely staff. Clean and comfy traditional Japanese room. Had a great time staying there. Heads up is they run a comparatively early check-out time and no check in later than 8pm. And the indoor onsen is a bit small

My husband and I stayed for two nights and highly recommend it. It is a beautiful place to stay, very traditional. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Culturally it's very different to what we are used to but we were made to feel at ease by staff. Their English was very good too, we were given menus with English on them and everything was always explained. Can't fault them at all. Not to mention the food was beautiful, plentiful and very tasty.

We were a group of four travelling together. If you want a truely Japanese experience then this is the place to stay. We stayed two nights. Had two breakfasts and two dinners. The dinners were different both nights experiencing beef(which is what the area is known for) one night and some seafood the next night. We had a plum sake as an aperitif the first night and an apricot sake the next night. The rooms are very basic and clean and you sleep on the floor. You can experience the hot springs here as well.Staff are helpful. In walking distance to the station, however directions need to be made a little clearer to get there.Loved every minute of our stay here and glad to have taken the time out to stay here.

The rooms are incredible as well as the food. The staff is super friendly. We were given yukatas (light kimono) to wear at the onsen on arrival, and then shown to a massive traditional Japanese room were they explained the house-rules. Breakfast was a great experience balanced and tasty. You'll learn a few new uses for miso paste.

The warm and hospitality shown by lady boss Yukiko and her staff were great. Love it that breakfast was included in the reservation. Ryokan room was nice and authentic. Onsen is nice too except that it is pretty small, 3 pax can fit comfortably. However as the ryokan isn't too big, thus far did not encounter too large a crowd at the onsen. Used it twice and I was the only one in it. Overall 5 stars.

Lovely stay for 2 nights here; warm and welcoming people who rightly have pride in their roykan. Food was fantastic and beautifully presented. A real highlight of our tour of Japan.

Such an incredible, beautiful experience. The hosts are so welcoming and friendly, and if you’re Japanese isn’t too good, they have English speaking staff. The rooms are comfortable and practical, the Onsen was lovely, as well as the complimentary Yukata! Actually obsessed with this place, I wish I stayed longer!!

Ryokan Asunaro was a highlight of our recent trip. For first time senior travellers to Japan their warm welcome was just the start of a most enjoyable two night stay. Our room was delightful. We slept surprisingly well on the futons. The breakfast, dining room and onsens were all a wonderful experience. The location was excellent being only a short stroll to the shopping centre and restaurants. We plan to return

Incredibly friendly staff with comfy Japanese style futons in the room. You have the choice of a Japanese or western style breakfast, both of which were tasty and well thought out. Went out of their way to cater for dietary requirements which I was very pleased about!

Fantastic Japanese experience in a beautiful Ryokan with a really kind staff. Precious room with tatami and futon. Lovely onsen available for all customers. You can wear your yukata inside the installation. Fantastic dinner and breakfast!

We stayed at Ryokan Asunaro for one night for our honeymoon and our experience couldn't have been better. The staff were welcoming us and they are quite friendly. Once you check in they provide you a "yukata" so you wear it inside the Ryokan and common areas. The room was very clean and so authentic in old japanese style. We used free bikes for visiting Takayama and then we got ready for dinner. Dinner was exquisite, there were many dishes and they explained us every dish. The waitress was very friendly. The experience was amazing. After dinner, we went to the Onsen bath and it was a great experience. We love our experience at Ryokan Asunaro as it connected us to Japanese culture and traditions. We highly recommend it!!

This is a lovely place to stay in Takayama. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the Ryokan is charming, authentic, and very cozy. Their indoor onsen is always clean and wonderful to soak in. The breakfasts in the morning are a delicious feast- make sure to order the Japanese breakfast, it's truly amazing. They provide yukatas, socks and slippers to wear while inside the Ryokan. They also have umbrellas and bicycles you can use for free while you stay. They provide many helpful and clear instructions on how to use the onsen and other amenities. We enjoyed staying here tremendously and would absolutely come back. This experience is curated for travelers who are interested in participating in Japanese and local culture.
