Great owner (excellent English) and other staff. Excellent value for money. Japanese style breakfast pretty good, western less so (cost:Yen1,200). Very good value traditional dinner at a very reasonable price (served at traditional Japanese tables in tatami dining room). Wifi in our room (315) sometimes unusable (we had our own, but could be a problem if you don’t). Large tatami room (Japanese-Style Superior Twin Room with Private Bathroom), good bathroom, sitting area, city and mountain view. Very nice. Futons and pillows somewhat uncomfortable for us, although I would say the same about any futon! We had a car, so easy for us to get around, but otherwise do be aware that it is a bit out of town, and not much in the way of choice of nearby restaurants. Overall, a most enjoyable stay for us however.

This is a very nice, clean 3* Ryokan (small hotel). The owner is a very friendly gentleman who speaks a bit of English. This place is very much geared towards foreign visitors. They offer shuttle services. There is an on-site Japanese bath in the hotel and the rooms are very nice with shower facilities. The food is excellent as well.

My fiancé and I had an amazing time staying here. Staff were friendly and very helpful; the room was spacious and comfortable. Make sure to experience the onsen and I definitely recommend having a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast here.

The service is great. We were walked up to our room. The gentleman made a great attempt at speaking to us in English. The room is huge, larger than a standard American room. It's a shoeless place, but they provide slippers for guests. The price is well worth it for what you get. They also have wifi, and common areas, which includes a beautiful room with a fire place. If you're coming this way, it's a great place to book your stay.

We loved staying here. The couple who run the place are so genuine and kind, it felt like home. The Japanese breakfast was delicious, and it was great to have a private onsen. We would definitely stay again!

If you can get to stay here, it’s a real treat. Step back in time and enjoy life in a traditional ryokan. Obviously you leave some modern creature comforts behind: rooms & bathrooms are very simple (traditional) but this is the trade off for the wonderful on site Onsens and amazing meals you will experience.

Great place to stay, relaxing bath, wonderful traditional Japanese food and relaxing bath; and the best: near Hida which is awesome

Very quaint Ryokan, family owned. By far the biggest rooms I've spent time in during our Japan trip. Make sure to reserve, your breakfast and dinner. Beware the Traditional dinner may not be for everyone so please make sure you ask about the menu. A lot of raw fish.

Due to our late arrival, not able to have diner at restaurant, too bad, it looked really great. Staff was very busy at that time preparing the diner for the many guests, who seemed to enjoy the atmosphere. We had a spacious room, but did not enjoy it, because of lack of time.

This ryokan is located far from the station. No shuttle for us because we haven’t found any public phone to call the hotel. The shuttle can only be booked by phone. So we had to go by feet. When we did arrive - exhausted - after 15 hours of plane and 6 hours of train, they did not tell us anything about booking the restaurant. They did not help us neither with our luggages. When we came early to the restaurant at 6:15PM, it was sold out. Moreover, all the other restaurants were closed. They were aware of it but they haven’t warned us. An hotel that cares about its guests experience would have told us about it but here it is not the case. That’s very unpleasant to see the full picture. Nonetheless, our room is authentic and very pretty. They provide a great yukata and matcha tea. But there are several uncomfortable aspects: bed hurts, heater is noisy, we can distinctly hear the other room voices, when you are lied on the bed, you realize that the floor is dirty. Maybe we must hoovering by ourselves. The private onsen is disappointing. It stinks fuel and gas near it. In addition, it looks very used - some parts are broken and there is no decoration at all. It is very uncomfortable. It was not relaxing but irritating in the end. To sum up: our worst experience in Japan. It gives a bad vision of Takayama. No sense of welcoming.

Quiet, traditional, beautiful and well situated. Wonderful hosts, private traditional Japanese baths, catered to foreigners rooms with tatami and no western furniture. The hotel is due to lots of updates, it is aging, but wonderful nevertheless.

Great little place. Comfortable and quiet. They have Japanese baths. Close to the Hida Village
