If you want to experience authentic japanese style lodging, then this place is perfect. First time I have ever tried communal bathing (which I knew was part of japanese culture from watching anime) and it was surprisingly relaxing. Some guests don't understand that you will need to wash yourself before getting into the bath water though... The rooms were beautiful, with very comfortable futons to sleep in. Yukatas were set out to wear for our stay and they were comfortable; an experience worth walking for 15 minutes from Takayama station for. You get to view the river as you walk to the ryokan. A pretty nice break from the city life. Even though the staff did not speak much English, we communicated pretty well with the minimal Japanese on my side, and the minimal English on their side. But they were very welcoming and friendly so I didn't really mind.

Good hotel to stay. Traditional Japanese style room with onsen. loved the room. They also had free pick up and drop off service. Free coffee. The onsen was beautiful. The hotel had good service. However there might be problem because of the language. I had hard time communicating as i could not speak Japanese. Felt bad because i could not respond to the host who was so welcoming.

This traditional inn was lovely. It is quite a walk from the station especially when it is unexpectedly freezing. The onsen was quaint, however this was the shower area. I didn't mind but others might. Even though it was cold we were very snug in our futons.

Beautiful location and very well kept Ryoken. The onsen was nice and as someone with tattoos feared I wouldn’t get the experience. Very quiet and comfortable. The doors are locked at 10pm and the vending machines turned off, so it’s a little militant.

Not a bad hotel. Very traditional. Horrible wifi coverage in the hotel and the rooms weren't cleaned on a daily basis. The standout is the excellent breakfast and dinner. I highly recommend paying extra for these as the food is really really good.

Great local guesthouse with fantastic meals at breakfast and dinner. A lovely onsen bath, dining room, lounge etc. They provide traditional clothing for lounging around the house, dinner and breakfast!
