Improvable overall. The facilities need to go under full maintenance and repairs. There is literally pieces of wall falling apparat at the Spa. Sauna wasn't working. Access to the shared bath is quite complicated. On arrival, they mentioned that the restaurant only accept reservations, so no dinner nor breakfast (more than 12 hrs no food) Never happened that in my life. On check out, they made us pay 300 yen for a 'bath tax' simply a joke. Wouldn't recommend.

Maybe this hotel was 5 star 20yrs ago but everything is weathered and desperately needs a refurb. Everything looks like it was made in the 1980's. All the signs say if you have tattoos you can not enter the onsens. The staff, although polite as is Japanese custom were rolling their eyes at our tattoos and giving us bad information. There was only one younger staff member who actually took the time, running over to us in the street to help us. It's an older generation hotel for sure. There is a hotel courtesy bus that will take you to the rope way gondola for free and pick you up when you call them at the public telephone at that gondola exit. This bus will not take you to town. Catch the H57 bus right outside the hotel to H51 bus stop. At this bus stop there is a convenience store to buy noodle packets, sweets, chips and alcohol and cigarettes. There is no hot food here. There is a toilet inside the shop.

It's among japan alps valley, hotel has south wing and east wing. There is public bath separating between male and female, also outdoor onsen bath. The banquet hsll is decorated in Japanese style with tatamj matt. There is private onsen bath outside down to the running river, highlights areopen air bath with view of running river. Going down there is very easy by cable car , capacitating 2-3persons per ride.

Though really secluded in the mountains ( we arrived after dark and relied on GPS), the staff is really friendly and rooms comfy. If you sit at their little table in the rooms, you can enjoy the snow-capped alps while sipping on hot tea and sweets (all provided). Breakfast was superb too!

Truly a 5 star experience. Loved everything, from the outdoor onsen to the food to the hospitality. Yes I do speak Japanese but this was an experience I will never forget. Hida holds a special place in my heart.

Receptions felt a bit off at start but was probably since the language barrier was a bit of a problem. But after that everything was grand, The food was eceptional the onsen was heavenly. Just be prepaired to learn how to put on a yukata yourself and struggle a bit to find the onsens, private onsen can be reserved with a short time window for 1000¥.

The hotel is quite old. Decorations in the lobby and rooms was like ages ago. Food was up to standard and portion was right. The only interesting place is their large open air hot spring which made me feel so relaxed.

Worst hot spring experience ever. Outdoor pools were poorly maintained, lots of insects and other stuff floating around even spider webs…. Carry your own luggage to your room.
