Top notch service and food. The outdoor bath is on the 7th floor so you get some good views. Has a sauna as well. Dinner was perfect. Each dish complimented each other perfectly. Location is in the heart of Takayama.

I have had the pleasure of staying here for two nights. The room is typical Japanese style, and like all Japanese hotels, it was impeccably clean and neat. However, the room isn’t the highlight, but the services and food are. The food served during dinner are in kaiseki style. Pretty much a bit of everything from local area. The ingredients are fresh and top quality. I especially love the local Hida beef! I definitely recommend this place and would be coming back here for a visit if I have the chance.

Stayed one night to enjoy a Japanese style experience and it was awesome! When you first arrive at the ryokan you're welcomed by a taiko drum; the rooms are japanese style (with tatami, low tables and futon) and you're given yukata and samue pajama to wear (even for an outside stroll); japanese style dinner and breakfast were delicious; there's an onsen and spa inside the building; treatment in general is top of class. I wish I could've stayed another night, but I will return for sure next time I'm in Japan!

A very good location ryokan in Takayama city. Next to the red bridge and historical preserved Japanese house. The room are spacious. Futon is so comfy. Everything clean and neat. Really feel Japanese atmosphere during our stay. Love this place.

We have never felt so welcomed like we did here. Everything is perfectly designed to make you feel special, from the moment they look for you in the station to take you to the hotel, the check in experience, to how the member of the staff that accompanies you to the room to explain you everything and give you the welcoming treat. The kaiseki meals are superb, the quality and level of detail of the food and the explanation of each dish. The onsen experience was also very good, there are two onsen for male and two for females with every amenities you could need and more. There are spacious, very comfortable, well maintained and clean. Highly recommended and would repeat the stay if we go back to Takayama.

Older building, where it seemed like they are trying to update. The staff was pretty friendly. I did have 2 major complaints. The first, and biggest is that the tatami mats in our room must have been replaced just prior to our stay, but the new ones were not properly dried, so the room reeked of decomposing vegetation. We had to leave the door open at all times we were in there, including through the night. The second was that we got there on a weekday that a lot of the restaurants in town were closed, so it would have been nice if we could have had dinner at the hotel. Unfortunately they cannot accommodate all the guests at the hotel for dinner, so we were told they were full and we had to find somewhere else. I don't like to give low scores, but these issues (mainly the mats) couldn't be overlooked.

Service here is top notch. We had decided to walk from the station to the hotel, though they do provide a shuttle service. While we were walking down the road towards the ryokan, we were spotted by the staff, who immediately came over to help with our luggages. We were given a welcome tea with snacks in our room. When we returned for a short break the next day, we had a knock on the door, with the staff offering to brew some tea for us! Great service! We would also like to commend one of their staff, Ms. Zhu, who was very chatty and patient with our questions. She kindly explained every dish we were having during dinner service in our room, and even explained some of the history behind some of the local traditions in Takayama. She made us feel very welcome during our stay. Meals were wonderful and elaborate, with kaiseki dinners including Hida beef in your room. There is also a choice of either Japanese or Western breakfast. As we stayed for 3 nights, we were recommended to try out the sushi bar at their sister ryokan just across the road. It was a nice experience, and the chef was very attentive and replaced some ingredients without us asking when he noticed us not eating them. The ryokan is in a great location too — only about 5 minutes from the Old Town and morning markets, and 10 minutes from Takayama Station. Had a lovely and wonderful 3-night stay here and would definitely recommend a stay here!

Good location。just next to the Takayama station. Clean. Good kaiseki. I booked it when it was on promotion. Good value. Food was good. Very good staff. Enjoyed my stay. The shuttle will send you to the station back and forth any day. Amy time. Kept to the tradition of welcoming you home every evening with tea and snacks. Nice !

We stayed just one night, but everything was excellent. Shuttle service provided, possible to leave luggages at the reception before check-in/check-out. Breakfast and dinner was simply super. We had two option for bath, we tried massage as well. Location is great, just few step everything. Place is highly recommended if you would like to try something traditional. One things, bathroom is a bit old fashioned, we were expecting a bit more.

Great experience in this hotel. Great customer service and good foods. Million thanks to staffs who served us. 1) A japanese girl who leaded us to room and helped to wearing kimono. 2) A girl from Taiwan working there thru working holiday program, she served us during dining in room. 3&4) Both japanese gentlemen who took photos for us and drove us to Train station.

Great hotel offering a blend of traditional Japan and the contemporary. Rooms are mostly traditional in their furnishings. In the evening, the housekeepers/servers come in to re-arrange for dining and for bedding down. The staff and the service was FABULOUS! My family visiting from the U.S. fell in love with the 7 course, evening meal served in our room on the first night. The next night we were shuttled to a very nice Japanese Steakhouse, arranged by the hotel, for a wonderful dinner that I recommend dressing better than casual, ergo leave the yukatas at the hotel, unless you are feeling as daring as we were. Breakfast is served in the dining area and is a choice of traditional or western style. My family and I enjoyed both. There is a convenience store in the front of the hotel with many snacks, refreshments, sake, necessities, souvenirs, etc. The hotel has an excellent location and is within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, markets, places of interest. I also recommend requesting a room with a river view. You get the best view of Nakabashi Bridge and such a soothing sound of the river from your balcony. I plan to stay here again, if ever passing through Takayama.

Outstanding Ryoken in a handy location. Staff are super friendly, this was our first time at a traditional Japanese hotel and everything was clearly explained by the staff member who showed us to our room. Dinner and breakfast were great. Skip the western option, if you are in japan, eat like the locals!

Convenient location with in-room dinner which is rare (they even offer hida beef!). Generally nice view from room. Breakfast is also abundant with high quality food. You can also request a free pickup or drop off service with a 7-seater van. Great service. But the hot spring isn't too amazing. The female one is indoor and not quite big. Might be a bit stuffy if there are more people. There is another bath at a small building just next to the hotel which is conserved from a historical house where 2 famous scholars were raised. Not bad.

So much of this Ryokan is wonderful, we loved it. Just a couple of things resulted in a deducted star, which I'll mention shortly. We had a fantastic traditional room with tatami mat floor, overlooking the river in the centre of Takayama. In the evening we were served an excellent multi course Japanese meal by a lovely lady. Breakfast is also quite an experience, many small pots of food with a helpful explanation in English. Very tasty. Service was excellent. There is also a Western alternative of bacon, eggs, etc. The downside? The bathroom is very cramped, smelled damp, and the small towels so thin you struggled to completely dry. Also, we booked a Japanese tea session which they completely forgot about. If you can forgive these minor points, I recommend this Ryokan.

Good food, great location. We really enjoyed our stay. The river noise might not be for everyone, but this area is super quiet in the evening after all the shop closes. The tatami style room is a bit dated but is super clean. Will be back to enjoy Takayama again in the future.

Excellent stay here for two nights. Hotel staff are incredibly helpful. Room was spotless. The food was fantastic, as long as you are keen on fish. Onsen on the top floor was great too. Lovely views of Takayama from it. Location is perfect for walking trails and markets.
