Incredible place, and cheap too! The private onsen are amazing, we only once found that the 2 outside ones were both occupied, and 1 of the indoor 2 were always free. No food available in the village, book the expensive dinner here, or bring your own. They have a fridge for guests etc... breakfast was kauseki style and very varied. A bit weird for a westener, but soo tasty. You get cool robes to wear between the onsen. Room was great, Japanese style with a mountain of extra bedding if you want more comfort. Highlight of our Japan trip.

One of my favorite memories from my trip to Japan was staying in this ryokan. The view was nice, but the onsen were the best! And the staff was very kind, Ken-san was a great host. The only inconvenience for us was the location because we didn't have a car and it was a bit far from the city, but you can take a bus and it's ok. Amazing experience :)

There is not one thing we did not enjoy about our stay here. From the beautiful room with mountain views and friendly service to the most incredible vegetarian food we have eaten, it was all perfect. The onsens within the property are lovely as well as the public bath by the river which was amazing. There are plenty of hikes around- at the end of the street you can start the Mt Yake Dake hike which we loved. As vegetarians we were very well catered for, for both breakfast and dinner. We will definitely be back.

Wow ! We had a wonderful experience. Beautiful, big and clean room with amazing view of the autumn fall. The place has 4 private(!) baths - onsens, where 2 of them are outdoors. Breakfast was so delicious ! Staff was very kind and helped us plan our next day trip. Greate Japanese hosting style . 10 starts

The dinner and breakfast are 100% worth it, some of the best food I had on the whole trip (including hida beef)! The staff here are so nice and very welcoming. The onsens are also lovely and the surrounding area is beautiful. Stay here if you're going to be in this area.

Minshuku Takizawa is the perfect place to stay in this region: the house is beautiful and full of old memories and authentic antique Japanese objects, rooms are comfortable and outdoor onsen relaxing. Thanks to “Kan”, a very kind and generous and educated staff member, we were able to visit interesting things in the region during our 2-days stay. He knows very well the region and was able to recommend us other sightseeing cities like “Gujo” in our way to Nagoya.

Takizawa is a fantastic host, his onsen is beautiful and makes for a very relaxing and private experience. Also perfectly situated for a hike to Kamikochi via the ropeway. Highly recommended.

Incredibly kind and welcoming people, they looked after me after I destroyed my body on an overly ambitious hike. Would recommend to any hopeless foreigners who have no idea what's going on!

Outstanding service, extraordinary setting. Food was extraordinary. For the price we paid online (100 yen/night) we got a remarkable bargain.

Amazing location, service, and food. This place should have a Michelin star for the food alone. The sashimi is caught and cut fresh to order; the fish was still moving when placed on the dinner table. 😳 Beautiful mountain views from both the room and the dining area. Unique and artistic ceramics to showcase the food. Jazz in the background for breakfast! ❤️ Water temperature in the outside hot spring too hot, but inside was perfect. 100% recommend. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Went here in 2016 and is still one of my favourite places we stayed in Japan, more memorable than the more expensive onsen hotels. Very relaxed and cosy atmosphere, amazing food, and lovely onsens.

I've been solo traveling around Japan for 2,5 weeks on a 15,000 JPY/day budget now, and Minshuku Takizawa is absolutely the best experience in terms of value, quality, and service. The moment I arrived I was greeted by name (! how did he know?) and given a detailed tour of the grounds. I love how it's barefoot once you're inside, really feels like home. 3 indoor, 2 outdoor onsens, all to be privately experienced upon placing a wooden sign appropriately at the door. I did not pre-book dinner so decided that evening I would like to dine at Takizawa, especially because the area is a bit remote and I do not have a car. 5,000 JPY for dinner the price felt steep for a budget solo traveler, but it turned out to be a 5-course meal that satisfied my Hida wagyu beef craving for at least a week. Extremely generous portions (almost too generous, I couldn't finish everything). I also found the 1,000 JPY breakfast (comes w coffee!!!!) to be a tremendous value given the quality and portion. The owner was the kindest, friendliest man who spoke great English and gave helpful tips for hikes and navigation. Unfortunately Minshuku Takizawa books out fast, so I had to move to another hotel in Okuhida area for the next 2 nights. The owner so kindly transported my luggage over to my next hotel since it was along the way for groceries and I wanted to spend the morning at Kamikochi. I already miss staying at Takizawa!
