If you are not solely targeting at the top-notch restaurants with premium A5 rank “hidagyu” (飛騨牛), this is one of the better alternatives I recommend. You can still taste pretty decent and quality hidagyu with relatively cheaper price. Tried the 飛騨牛朴葉味噌 (miso) for the 1st time. It tasted great and went well with rice!

Very nice local restaurant. Sweet mama-San en chef that are happy to show you how exactly to enjoy the famous Hida-beef! Very reasonable prices compared to other places (lot of beef for 2000円) served as a set with a individual grill, soup, potato, salad, soybean paste and Rice!

Good place to enjoy some hida beef. I like it for it friendly owner and nice food. you can ask for more rice too.

Happened upon this restaurant on my way to a more popular Hida beef-serving restaurant joint further up the same major Takayama street. It was empty however it looked well-presented, so after a quick Google search confirming that it had a decent rating, I walked in. Mikado is a modest venue but the food was so good and the service homely. A few locals started to walk in after I was sat down too, and the place quickly became quite busy. I ordered the 2000 yen Hida beef set along with a local Hida craft beer. The beef was tender and came with a charcoal grill, hoba miso, rice, pickled vegetables, miso soup and tofu. Of particular enjoyment was cooking the hoba miso on the grill and having it with the Hida beef and the rice. It was a hearty meal and I was full for the rest of the evening!

The owner was friendly and welcoming. Got the hida beef set with miso and it was good. Take care not to burn the leaf

It was open until late 9pm, where most of the resturants were close. They didnt keep me waiting although I was solo, that was kind. Foods were good and it was enjoyable.

small cozy family owned. It has 2 stories average price. home style cooking. great beef and soup is very delicious. The leaf has a typically scent but it's a signature here.

If you want to try a nice set of hobayaki at a low cost and try the famous local hida beef. I would recommend here. The sets here a well value for money, a lot cheaper than other places.

Not a bad choice in town. Local delivers. Quality. Not popular to tourist so it might be a advantage.... it might not have top graded beef but it’s already enough....

Though I don’t eat beef, my group member has highly recommended and appreciated with the choice tonight.
