Lmfao. 1950 for this quality of hida beef grilled with miso on hoba leaf should be illegal. With a couple of sides, vegetable (mostly roots) platter, Tofu with shoyu and grated ginger, some pickles, clear soup, rice. *no English menu* there's pictures though so just point to the hoba leaf with hida beef on top in the menu. The rest of the tables are all Japanese, no gaijin so u know you're gonna have a good meal. Seriously. Outstandingly good. I'm addicted to this dish. I ate it last night in a restaurant for 3000 yen and that can't compare even one bit to this. Not only does the beef melt in your mouth, its incredibly tasty and when I saw it served u knew it was gonna be good just looking at the raw meat. When you bite there's a burst of flavour that's hard to describe. So freaking amazing and of outstanding value. People always say "best beef in Japan", but hear this - I've been to Japan like 3 times so my standards are pretty fine tuned to Japanese standards. Just get the damn 1950 hoba leaf miso hida beef set. Too much value here. Theres also I think a 2.9k sukiyaki set which is also incredibly inexpensive if you want sukiyaki not grilled. 5/5 would eat here again. The atmosphere of the place also felt so preserved and rustic.

If you're ever in 高山市 (Takayama), this place is a must-try. The food is very decent especially for the price but the ambiance is priceless. The setup is spacious and you feel like you're dining in a medieval Japanese home. This place is also a good halfway stop if you're planning to visit 白川鄉 (Shirakawa-go) world heritage site as you can get a bus ticket from Takayama to Shirakawa and it takes about 45mins.

Simple and oldish looking restaurant very hidden from plain sight. The hida beef slices grilled over a hooba leaf set for my lunch was just excellent! Highly recommended. Also order a side plain hot soba as a sharing food pair. Enjoyed this lunch greatly! Oiishi!

I ate houbayaki set was great. It was 1950yen. Nice price and service was fast. I wanna try sukiyaki next time.

Best grilled miso Hida beef restaurant in Takayama old town. We went to the same restaurant 10 years ago and it still tastes just as good now.

Traditional type of Japanese restaurant with about 160 years of history. If you focus your attention to many details in the room, you'll see many antiques and old tools and decorations from long ago. You can enjoy some real local food at the premise, lot of veggies.

Excellent food. The Hida beef set is amazing and a good low price. Much better than the hotel we stayed in the following day. A must for lunch.

Been here and enjoyed a lunch. Hida beef was so good. The japanese setting in the restaurant was very nice and made me feel relaxed. Food was good portion and tasted delicious.

Good place to try traditional Hida beef in it's original way and sauses. Try the lunch set with relatively cheap price .
