Many blogs recommend this, I tried when it open, staff are very very very nice and polite. Food are also nice and come with big portion, for ladies, it’s difficult to finish the whole set. U can try hida beef with a competitive price here, but i cannot tell the difference abt hida beef and *normal beef. If u could like to try HIDA BEEF I strongly recommend 味藏

Niku Niku Niku 😌There’s a queue, go early and last orders are at 2/230pm, they don’t do dinners. Best beef in town - scrumptious, juicy, fresh n decently marbled Prime Hida Beef eaten in sets with accompanying side dishes with a variety of cuts available. Truly a meat lovers paradise with the swirling aroma of juicy steaks slow cooking over aromatic leaf on personalised charcoal grill. Believe me it doesn’t get much better than this - truly authentic settings with wooden ceilings n huge log pillars this age old converted merchant house restaurant is filled with authentic paraphernalia- jingu masks, samurai attire n even an old flintlock rifle - rustic settings with delicious food - at extremely reasonable prices for some of the best beef in Japan (West). They have a decent drinks menu too and the service is ever so polite n courteous. A pleasure to dine here n truly not to be missed 👍😋

Got the 2 pieces of quality broiled hida beef sushi (900yen). It was nice but having eaten at maruaki the night before, this was not quite memorable.

We had the Hida steak bowls, so fresh, so tender, so delicious with flavor. Beautiful atmosphere as well

Wonderful historical place in the heart of old Takayama. Very good ramen plus rice with local beef. Friendly and efficient service. 4 stars for the food and an additional star for the cosy, family-style atmosphere. We really liked this place!

I can’t really comment on the food in general because they only served soba when we dined. Which is the reason for the 2 star. The place says closing at 3pm with last order at 2:30pm. To our disappointment they do not serve anything else on menu aside from soba. If the kitchen cannot handle serving their menu at any given time during opening time then just close early. Just causes confusion and disappointment to diners

Excellent food, they tend to specialise in soba so and steak so definitely try it multiple ways with friends. Well worth the money and not overly expensive, very filling and warm on a cold day. You can dine old style on your knees on the Tatami mats or in a more modern way on table and chairs. Service was great and fast. Zero complaints, only down side like most places they don't split bills but it tends to be the same everywhere in Japan so can't complain.

Simply our best meal in Japan in two weeks !

One of the two 飛驒牛(Hida Beef) sushi. They place the sushi on a piece of rice cracker and they both taste amazing!

Wish I could give more stars! I want to try the one with egg. But the menu on take away window didn’t have it. Only 3 kinds of Hida Beef Sushi (lean ¥500; medium fatty beef ¥700; premium fattiest beef ¥900 for every 2 pcs sushi that comes with rice cracker plate). Ordered the B set—fatty toro beef. It was delicious! I would like to recommend it to anyone. I’m not a fan of Japanese food, but this one I LOVE IT! The beef was juicy and chewy, with a hint of wasabi and sweetness from the sauce (I don’t like sweet food, but this one goes well with the beef).

Best Hida Gyu Nigiri in Takayama! I also tried 飛驒こって牛 across the street with long queue but, believe me, Sakaguchiya is way better. The beef is so aromatic it fills your brain, also super tender. I’ll be back!

非常好吃，食物非常精緻，價格稍高 Very recommended restaurant with very local foods and good taste high quality hida beef. Price is little expensive, but worth it with its quality.

The original restaurant that created the Hida Beef Nigiri sushi. You can queue to buy them at the counter for take away 3 choices to choose from but I would recommend to go for just Type C - Hida Premium A5 Wagyu beef Nigiri sushi. You cannot be wrong with that👍.

A place to enjoy authentic Hida crusine. I came here for lunch and was attracted by its presence: an old Japanese style house with vivid atmosphere. We had Hida steak set and Hida soba, accompanied with Hida beer. The set here can satisfy your greediness to have all the Hida crusine in one meal. Highly recommended !

My first time to give Hida beef a try and I’m very satisfied with the meal here in Sakaguchiya. The staffs here are friendly and served the water and paper towel very fast. Upon noticing you’re from other countries they will speak English to you immediately. Ordered a pair of Hida beef sushi medium fat toro, a beef don and a steak don. I strongly recommend the beef sushi, the beef is so tender and doing really well with the sauce. For the steak don, you can choose how you would like for the steak and I recommend medium. The price is a little bit high yet I think the food here really worth it.
