Hotel Wood was absolutely fantastic. The location can’t be beat. You walk outside and feel like your in Japan 200 years ago (in a good way). Most importantly to me however was the service. At one point, I had to book a taxi to a golf course nearby and they helped me out getting that done when there were few taxis available. The morning of our departure we we were going to walk to the station, but it was pouring rain. We asked for a taxi, all of them were booked. One of the front desk staff said they had a van and would take us to the station with our way too many bags. You can’t beat this kind of service, and I am so appreciative of their going the extra mile for us. Worth every penny. One thing I will mention is that the beds are a little on the firm side. Mattresses are always a preference type of thing though, so not docking anything for that. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my recent stay at Hotel Wood Takayama. The staff was incredibly considerate and patient with me, even though I struggled through some of the Japanese. They didn't speak English themselves, but I was offered a lot of materials in English, including the hotel guidelines, maps of the area, and even a list of breakfast places because they noticed I hadn't reserved breakfast at the hotel. One of the staff members even made sure I knew when there was a natural disaster that occurred in my home prefecture during my stay at the hotel. The service and staff at this hotel were incredibly friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I gave it 4/5 stars because the bed wasn't very comfortable for me (it was very firm), and the bed was on a raised platform that was a little hard on the knees when you had to step up on it. I was also looking forward to being able to watch some TV in my room, but found there wasn't one. Luckily I had brought my laptop, so I wasn't too disappointed.

Great location near the old town even though it is about 10 minutes walk to Takayama station. Not a big issue if you rent a car, and we love the contemporary wooden design. The complimentary evening and night time sake and beer at the lobby is a really generous perk. Onsen is small but sufficient. A small letdown is that there is no gym.

We booked based on official site’s pricing - ~$210 USD a night not including dinner but includes breakfast for two. Location is definitely 5 star. It’s in the heart of old town. What’s better is that there’s also a family mart right beside it making it even more convenient. To our surprise, convenience stores are not abundant in Takayama, and one right beside the hotel was definitely another plus. Experience is also 5 star. There is free drinks including sake tasting in the lobby from 5-10pm with variety of choices! There’s a public bath and a bathtub in the room. There’s even free popsicles after bath. Hotel offers free umbrellas for guests. Only complain is that rooms have no windows, so there isn’t much of a view

New hotel is in a very prime location. In the heart of the 3 famous streets filled with all types of food, shops and markets. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. The hotel lobby is Japanese modern with local wood made furniture. They have a complimentary sake bar as well as draft beer. Breakfast is traditional Japanese style. The onsen is cozy. Rooms are very spacious (even the standard twin room) with robes provided.

The location of the hotel is really good to explore the town. The lobby, which also will act as the breakfast room, is spacious and they offer free beer and local sake. It's a good place to chill out after exploring the city. The twin room we stayed in was very spacious and offered a nice shower cabin. If you are in the mood to take a bath, you can wander down to take a dip in the Onsen. The theme they are going for is a mix of traditional and modern Japanese style. Breakfast is very Japanese... don't expect toast, bacon and eggs! We visited this place during peak summer season. The hotel staff were nice and tried hard, but somehow we ended up waiting over an hour to check in.

Hotel was lovely and the room was spacious. The only thing that was slightly annoying is that there seemed to be a fair number of rude guests, like one who removed our laundry from the dryer before it was done, or people who did not wash themselves before using the public baths.

The hotel is exactly as pictured. My room was clean, comfortable and spacious. I tried the onsen and it was very relaxing. The free drinks in the evening were great. The staff is incredibly friendly. This is a great location about 10 minutes walking from the train station and easy to get to everything in Takayama.

Really nice modern hotel with a Japanese essence. Stayed in their standard room, which was clean and dequate in size for a Japanese hotel, but perhaps on the smaller side compared to European or North American room. It has a lovely public bath which can be used in the morning and evening. A delicious bento breakfast is available (although request ahead if vegetarian). Walking distance to station, Family Mart, and many of the tourist spots, including the morning markets and old town. Would definitely stay again if ever I should find myself in Takyama.

Room was spacious but the bed was soft and pillow flat. There is a communal dining area on ground floor which serves free alcohol and drinks daily in the evening. Located near the main shopping and food street. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Totally worth it!

1/ Service Our family spent 3 nights here, and the service was outstanding: from telephone enquiry, daily restaurant recommendations, to providing transport to the train station, the service was top class. 2/ Amenities The layout of the room incorporated Tatami concept with modern amenities. Lighting and window position were tastefully thought through. The result is a smart use of space. 3/ Location 30 seconds walk from Sanmachi Suji, one can explore the old town anytime of the day or night, in sunshine or rain (the wet view was really nice): to soak up the ambience, to chill, photo-shoot or vlog. You can choose to do it with the crowd, or in solitude. Sites like Takayama Jinya were in close proximity. 4/ Eateries All eateries and cafe were within 5 to 10 min walking time. We visited Ebisusoba, Suzuya, Coffee Don, Falo Coffee Brewers and Osteria la Forchetta. All were outstanding.

Very new hotel at the heart of takayama old city. Free drinks (including alcohol every night until 11pm!) the room was very clean and spacious. Highly recommend if you plan to visit nearby city or kamikochi. Plenty of things nearby because its right at the old town. Family mart is next door if you feel like it.

Ideal location right next to the main heritage street. Wonderful service, free drink in the evening, comfortable room. Beds were a bit to hard, but ask ans they have toppers to smooth things out. No TV in the room strange a bit.. but we were there for the city and service was so great and location amazing. Large rooms perfrct for 2 adults and 8 and 3 years-old kids. New facilities, clean, would definitely come back.

Beautiful, tasteful hotel with a lovely onsen bath. Service was top notch, when they were unable to make a taxi booking due to the rain, they offered to drive us to the train station! Also free sake tastings and beer in the evenings. Absolutely recommend this hotel, I would definitely come again.

The staff were so helpful. I left my wallet at a roadside station while traveling from Omachi, and they went out of their way to help me locate it and forward to our next hotel. Wow - such care - thank you!!! The bar/lounge area is great - free drinks and the atmosphere is wonderful in this small town. Location is superb - get to walk the atmospheric streets just as the town is waking up.

I will be staying here for two nights this December 2023 . However the hotel does not provide concierge service for overseas traveler. They do not respond to my email. Sadly I cannot make any restaurant reservation. The hotel looks great actually, but they really need to improve their service

An incredibly good find in Takayama, this is a beautiful hotel right in the old city centre (and not far from the train/bus station either), with incredibly professional staff and a convivial open bar from 5pm. Perfectly clean and “zen” rooms with tatami-style beds were most probably the best ones we experienced during our stay.

Had such a lovely stay here. Totally ZEN. Wonderful onsen on site. Staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us feel comfortable. Good location for sightseeing. Lot of snow on the ground so a taxi was needed from train station. The free drinks were great as well. Highly recommended stay. Thanks again, from Brisbane Australia.

Gorgeous hotel literally one minute away from the main road. Those who appreciates quality workmanship and fine details will love the rooms with its traditional decor. The staff are lovely people who are genuinely happy to offer any help you need - when I checked out with my luggage, the front desk staff offered a ride to the station simply because they had spare time. Also the sake sample was delicious. The beef salami and jerky were exact same price at other shops in Takayama, and goes well with the alcohol.

The hotel is very well located in the historical part of town. It is pretty new and is quite chic. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Service is excellent and the staff spoke English and were very helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations. There is a hot bath at the hotel, separate for men and women. Not quite an Onsen as the water is not Onsen water. The free sake and beer from 5pm is a real treat.

The Wood Hotel is very beautiful and feels very Japanese. The area of the hotel is very convenient and in central Takayama. There is a free bar at night and a spa you can relax in. It didn’t bother me, but there is no TV in the hotel room. Some guests might be bothered by it. Also the breakfast is very Japanese style that might not be accommodating for western guests.

This is THE best place to stay at in Takayama. It is right beside Sanmaji Suji and a mere 12min walk from Takayama station. It also only opened last August 2019, so everything is brand new. On top of the that, they serve free sake all day and free beers from 6PM-onwards. The staff are super helpful and friendly, as well. My only complaint is the lack of window (standard room). I like bright and airy rooms with a view and our room didn't have any.

Best hotel we stayed In Japan. New, modern and yet with traditional touches. The staff was extremely helpful and kind and helped us with everything! Also, they serve free sake and beer in the evenings. This hotel made Takayama unforgettable.

Cannot say enough AMAZING things about this hotel. I absolutely LOVED my stay there. The spaces were so clean and serene, the staff was amazing, the free local sake tasting in the lobby was such an excellent suprise! The included breakfast was wonderful.

Totally enjoyed our stay here. The entire hotel is so zen. Probably the best service we’ve received in japan (so you can imagine how amazing it is!!). All of the staff are so kind and help you with anything and so quickly!! The rooms are lovely and spacious for Japan. We loved the sake tasting bar and free beer in the lobby. Location is great too. Everything is so clean and pristine.
