Very amazing place. I and my family love this house. The host are so kind. We book the private house which there is no bathroom inside, need to use in the main building but it is not thing to worry just across the road. There are 3 onsen that can be use for private. When we check out, the host come to us and take photo, finally he give 2 photos for us. So kind.

Simple self check in system. The room and outdoor onsen are nice! Lounge area also provides pastries in the morning with hot drinks available 24/7.

The owner of the house must be a master craftsman of stained glass because the rooms/house are decorated with it! Facilities also include 3 private baths ( 1outdoors) luv it! Close to the bus station ( less than 5 min walk)

Very nice affordable Ryokan. The private baths and the massage chair were both very nice. Would recommend.

Had a lovely stay two days ago. The owner was nice, and the house was very clean and homely. I was very impressed by the plentiful custom stained-glass artwork that gave the place a very warm and lived-in feeling. The outdoor onsen was equally amazing- no chorine or anything like that. They also provided some coffee and bread rolls for breakfast, but you will need to source your breakfast elsewhere if you want a substantial meal before hiking kamikotchi

We arrived at night and there was a blackout so it was a bit hard to find. We thought there was no one in the Ryokan but it turns out they were all busy in the kitchen or dining room. A kind old lady showed us around with a flashlight and told us that they would fix the electricity within 5 minutes. We were led to our room on the second floor which was a simple tatami mat with two mattresses. All around the floor there were many other rooms. I thought the sound would permeate but there was surprisingly good insulation. Also the rooms were not cold even though it was -6C outside, was impressed. Toilets are shared by gender. They have two private baths and onsen on the ground floor and one private outdoor bath on the second floor, which was nice in the dead of winter. It's a simple place, and if that's what you are looking for then this is your place. Breakfast at 730am is brilliant.

Lovely, atmospheric Onsen. Private bath outside with the mountain view. Two indoor baths, can be private as well. Beautiful traditional building with stained glass windows. Ultimate Japanese experience. Definitely recommend.

A charming and authentic ryokan with three private onsen baths and comfortable rooms. Outdoor onsen is a highlight. Facilities are all very well kept. No English is spoken but it's not an issue. Hirayu Onsen is a picturesque town with a shop, bar and a couple of good restaurants.

Really a leisure place to stay when traveling. Like the open air onsen. Nice Japanese house with tatami.

An otherwise nice place, but unfortunately marred by an experience with rude staff. We had come back from a 6 hour hike and arrived back at the accommodation at 1.30pm. The shower/bath is located inside the private bath/onsen room. As soon as I stepped inside to take a shower and closed the door behind me, an old lady staff banged continuously on the door. I thought someone was dying, it was that urgent. Concerned, I opened the door, but when I stepped out she started yelling in Japanese "you can't use, they are for reserved guests" and gesturing a big NO with her arms. Apparently there were three guests who were due to come at 2-3pm just for the onsen. Maybe the property wanted to make some more money? With three onsen on the property, all the signs saying shower open 24 hours, the time being before 2pm - enough for me to take a shower before they arrived (it is summer and I was sweaty and all I wanted was a shower), she shouldn't have blocked me from showering let alone been so rude to me as a paying guest. We have been in Japan three weeks and have not encountered one rude person until now. It really left a sour taste. The day after, the owner (?) apologised to me in person and handed me a business card lol. I wrote to the owner to let him know I was going to write an honest review - he responded by saying sorry but from now on he would close the showers from 9am-3pm. This experience probably won't happen to you, but perhaps if you value respectful hosts and care about being treated with basic respect by the people you are paying to provide you with accommodation and shower facilities, this might inform your choice of accommodation.

Wonderful apartment with good facilities, including a massage chair that you can use freely. Comes with one open air and two indoor onsens. When I first saw this place, I had my questions regarding the usage of the onsens and how it is "private", but after staying here, I am glad I chose this place. And if you are visiting kamikochi from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal, it is only a two minutes walk away. In terms of food, the restaurants recommended by the owner were terrific.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owner is very friendly and the place is super clean and comfy. They have their own onsen which is very cool. The area is also beautiful and peaceful, close to Kamikochi.
