👍👍 Takayama was fully booked on the day of our visit. We were lucky to be able to reserve a room in this minshuku. The owners of Oyado Yoshinoya are very welcoming. They speak enough English to explain everything and were so kind to bring us fresh coffee in the morning. The place was bigger than expected. The rooms are clean and provide a unique experience. The best thing is the Onsen. There are two baths your can use, which is first come first serve and you might have to wait, especially in the evening. In mornings they were often available. Shared toilets are not an issue as well, as there are multiple on the different floors. Overall a unique experience!

Homey guest house with private onsen run by elderly couple who are very nice and helpful. Located right on main street in old Town and within a few blocks of every thing. We had free parking in a lot behind the house and was able to walk everywhere, stopping back for rest in between destinations. Rooms were clean, comfortable and traditional.

Run by an older friendly couple. They speak some English, enough to make it work. Faces the main street so rooms at the front will hear constant traffic but it is much quieter at night. The owners put in an effort to bring coffee / tea in the day and are happy to answer questions. They provide a map at arrival and do a quick informational rundown on Takayama. Older building but clean. Shared private bathrooms and shower / onsen. First come first serve. Comparable to other prices around, it's an all round good deal. Nearby everything. 15 minute walk from JR station.

I really enjoyed staying here with my girlfriend. The old couple who run the place were lovely and friendly. The room had tatami floors and we were provided with yukata and socks to roam around in. There was also two hot spring baths which were awesome after walking around all day. Highly recommended

Lovely hosts - it feels like you're staying with your Japanese Grandparents - warm and welcoming and they want you to feel at home. Lovely old house, very clean, comfy futons and very cosy duvets for the cold days! Would recommend!

Lovely little ryokan about a 15 minute walk from the JR Takayama train station thru the heart of the town. Very sweet hosts with enough English to explain typical check in info. Shared bathrooms with separate male/female toilets. 2 private shower/hot spring baths for relaxation! Great stay to experience traditional Japanese lodging!

Difficult to imagine a better place to stay in Takayama. Old samurai house? Check. Onsen in the bathrooms? Check. All in all a classic Japanese guesthouse experience with lovely hosts, cosy rooms and the best local breakfast I had in Japan.

Staying here for 2 nights and it was awesome. Great location and experience because the house is very traditional. The owner are old couples that are really nice and friendly, they don’t really talk in english so we have to use google translate to have a conversation. The highlight of this house are the onsen and local breakfast that they serve (worth the price). The only down thing about staying here is the curfew, they don’t allow you to be back at home after 10pm and they will have your room key as well (you can’t bring it with you when you go out). Other than that, it was a nice experience.

The couple living here are so sweet and helpful! The map provided with good locations definitely helped pad out my 2 nights here. And my most traditional stay of my month in japan check then out! Private bath is amazing as well!

We stayed in this traditional Ryokan for 2 nights in late july and it was just wonderfull. Upon entering we found out the place was run by an older couple who effectively become your Japanese grandparents during your stay. They would wave us goodbye everytime we left and welcomed us back everytime we returned. They were very apologetic about not being able to speak English very well but between my 5 sentences of Japanese and our collective handgestures we made due very well. They gave us loads of tips about the town. Speaking of the town, the location is an absolute dream. The Ryokan was smack in the middle of the historic centre with great places to get very nice souvenirs from artisans. It is also a 5 minute walk from the morning market which was very great and I would highly recommend getting up early to explore. The rooms came with a set of Yukata and were very well maintained. You also get access to the onsen for free which was very clean and relaxing after a long day of exploring. All in all you can tell that these people care very much about their ryokan and the guests that come to visit and I would recommend anyone coming to Takayama to stay here. Much love from the Netherlands

a very lovely place to stay at Takayama owned by a lovely couple. I can experience a traditional stay here. So clean and the room is quite spacey. The location is near from the heart of Takayama so we can go by walk to the morning market and other destination. The highlight of our stay is the onsen. I try the onsen with my husband and it is so relaxing after having a long trip from shirakawa.
