Very nice walk. Especially in the Autumn. No ruins though (we knew it upfront). We did it as a part of longer walk along the shrines and temples.

No ruins but the walk is worth it. Peaceful hike up the hill along heaps of different paths. Hardly any tourists there. Nice views of the town through the trees. Up the top is the site of the old castle and where the foundations would have been.

Hike was nice and easy. But 0 view, nothing but trees. You'll see a mini stone monument for your efforts but that's about it. Did I also forget to mention the bear warnings? Depending on your entrance you'll be given a can to bring and bang if a bear is spotted.

This is definitely more of a mini hike and chance to enjoy nature and see the surroundings. We didn't do any research so I wasn't expected to hike uphill so much after tasting 10 different sake... but you know, that was my mistake... hahaha. I still enjoyed the beautiful forest. We didn't really see any ruins- most of the castle was completely destroyed. But it's still a nice place. Make sure to bring bug spray if you plan to sit or chill a while - the mosquitos are no joke!

Another must see on your trip to Takayama. Pretty easy to find especially if you have a car. Though you can hike to it I believe. We went on a rainy and foggy day and gave the woods and the town a mystical feel. Stunning view of all of Takayama and very impressive ruins.

The ruins were underwhelming (only a partial bit of 1 wall) though the views of the mountains were gorgeous! Views of the city were there too. Steep but short hike up. If you have the time, the view is worth the 20min max up, otherwise it can easily be skipped.

Cool small hike to a viewpoint and some castle ruins. Very scenic!

Nice for a walk up above Takayama to get views and experience the forest (at least a large forested park). Nice restaurant at the bottom. She doesn't serves coffee though but as you descend on the road one chap has opened a coffee place.

You get rewarded by stunning view on the Japanese Alps at the top. Don't do it for the castle ruins but more for the hike and being surrounded by beautiful nature.

Beautiful hike with lots amazing temples on the way! Not many actual “ruins” left of the castle though and the very confusing trail signs led to us and a few other people to getting lost on the way.

This is hard to find using google maps, use the signs. Also only a very small wall remains so there aren’t alot of ruins. This is only worth it if you would also enjoy a small hike that comes with

Amazing views if you brave the stairs and bears. Looks like you take the bells and bring them back as bear deterrents. I’m writing this from the top so not made it back down yet… 😅

Gave it 5 🌟 because I like abandoned places. For me it had it's charm. Also my guest house was nearby. A good hiking place. Not long but it's a way up, little hiking skills needed.

Beautiful views and scenic spot. But it can be buggy. Also, there are no ruins to speak of. They mark where structures once stood but there is nothing left.

Perfect spot to see autumn leaves! It was a quiet and peaceful walk, very few people around. Lovely!!! Don't expect to see a lot in terms of ruins, only bits of the foundation remain.

I am here during winter and ground was filled with white snow. Small hiking session is a wonderful for slightly active and looking for adventure in this beautiful town. Breathtaking view up there.
