This unique looking temple in the historic town of Shirakawago is a must see. It was build almost similarly to the traditional gassho houses of the town. The temple also has a bell tower / torii gate of the same design, I got to visit this temple last May. Sadly, I was not able to get a goshuin in it. Probably next time.

The temple shares common entrance with the museum. There is entrance fee of ¥300. The fragrance of the smoke inside is wonderful. The temple, the wada house the kanda house, the observation deck, all close to each other at walking distance. It’s like a timeless zone, especially with snow.

This was a nicely run temple. I liked how I could sit and take a rest as I planned what I wanted to do next. Nice place. 😊👍

Amazing "gasshou" style temple. there are 3 levels, you can walk through and see all the old tools people used, through the top window you can admire the view. There are less tourists here than the other walk in gasshou houses AND it's a museum AND a temple so 3 in one! Go to the beautiful service/prayer room that is surrounded by paintings! and then walk through a hall that has information on how the houses are made/maitained, you'll find a stamp here 😉 for people that like to connect with the places they visit rather than just 'conquer' them, Myozenji offers this if you take your time. When I was here a fire was lit in the sunken hearth space. I got to see first hand how they use smoke to go up into the hay to add resin protection also while preventing embers from rising.
