I would highly recommend you go to Train Bleu. I have been to France several times. Train Bleu’s bread and pastries were better than anything I’ve had in France. Do yourself a favor and go!

Grab a snack here and explore Takayama. A little off the beaten path but pastries are really good. The have a little outdoor seating area, no real seats inside.

A-must bakery shop you should try. The very best Croissant and French Baguette. Freshly Toast is also very very good. Everything in this shop is delicious! No queue on working hour. Neither table. Once you teste the croissant, you'll be back to buy more.

Highly recommended. This is a wonderful bakery that sells the most amazing, French-style pastries and bread. It is extremely popular and also quite small, and it is normal for quite a long line to form outside before it opens each day. It's a great place to stock up on some food before you head to the Hida Takayama folk village, or do some other sightseeing around Takayama. If you visit on a day that they have pear danishes, you simply must try them!

Very nice bakery indeed, with varieties of french-style bread and dessert. WARNING! If you are travelers like we did, it would be very struggle whether to wait in the long and slow moving queue, or go to Shirakawa-go earlier to avoid the traffic queue. After all, there are many good bakery, yet only one Shirakawago in the world.

Takayama most famous bakery as it won a prize at a bakery competition many years ago. You'll find a real variety of bread there and that makes it difficult to figure out what the place is good for. However, the French style baguette is good without being exceptional.
