2022/05/30 Amazing place. I drove to the 2nd parking lot (Shirakaba station). It was ¥2900 for round trip. The ride was itself thrilling. It send goose bumps when cable car change poles. Larger than life views of Japanese alpine mountains. Its was colder than base station. Must be more beautiful during winter seasons. Though access by car in winter might be difficult. There was a sulfur hot water stream at the foot of 2nd station where you can put your feet for relaxation if you walk too much. May be taking gandola a 1st station is better as it cost ¥3000.

They wouldn’t let us buy a one-way ticket and walk down because we didn’t have the gear they require as signaling competency. But we are experienced trekkers and don’t need this private company to babysit us while we visit a national park. Our hiking shoes were sufficient for the task—we don’t need high ankle hiking boots and clothes that are mountaineering style to signal we are serious. A hiking clothing company sponsors the place. First ride was useless—should’ve driven up to the higher lot. Top of the ropeway had multiple constructions that filled the air with noise. It would have been nice for their website to warn about this. Had a nice walk at the top, but it was too short as we expected to walk down and thus didn’t plan around their last trip down. Lots of food at both of the upper stations. Nothing visible at the base.

(Translated by Google) I went there at the end of May. It was early in the morning, so it wasn't too crowded, and I was able to go to the station on the ropeway smoothly with about 10 climbers. When I went up to the deck on the top floor of the terminal station, I was impressed by the beautiful 360-degree view of the mountains in a fair weather. Have you been to Kamikochi in the past? At the station on the way, there seems to be a bakery selling ropeway-shaped bread and a bathing facility.

It an amazing trip. If you take the ropeway, I highly recommend you go to the top station. It just need 5-8 mins for base station to 2nd one. It ride a small ropeway. And it will chance a larger ropeway in the middle station. It have two floors. When the ropeway runs, you can see the amazing views, frozen trees, mountains and canyon views, also can see some footage on the snow. But when the ropeway go through the tower will be little shaking, a little scary. However, I would call it a must do activity in Okuhida

If you want to do the hiking trail of Nishiho (which is highly recommended), one alternative is to take the ropeway from here and start the trail at the top.

***Closed Until November 9th*** Warning that the No. 2 Ropeway is currently not open. The drive to the area is beautiful but may not be worth it given No 1 Ropeway not worth the detore on its own so only come if already nearby. BUT, the course up to the very top looks amazing and would be amazing if No 2 is open. Must check No 2 is open before going. The lines to go back down after only going to Nabedaira Station are long and you get stuck waiting for the next chair lift for potentially an hour which is frustating as there is nothing to see or do here except the foot bath. They also cram the lift with people so its not very enjoyable.

13 Nov. Station 1 is snowing. Snowballing is fun. Station 2 is -3°c and all white. Not much of a view. Too cold to run around. Will not recommend paying much more for Station 2. Base and Station 1 parking are the same at 600¥. You can drive to Station 1 and park there. It's cheaper than taking the ropeway. We did not do that due to lack of info and experience driving in mild snow

Went there on 11 Nov morning and got in on the first ride. No more autumn color and it felt like winter more than autumn 😅 We got lucky that we could see the mountains at top. Although not all of them, but the view was pretty great. Another bonus, a monkey decided to went down while we were there!

I went there in February, and got to see the amazing views of mountains and trees covered in snow. I always enjoy ropeways with great scenery. It was extremely cold at the observation deck on the mountain peak. I took a bus from Takayama to get there, but it might be easier to drive.

This is no doubt going to be one of my most memorable excursions, every time I have visited Japan it’s always been during summer so this time I got a chance to spend a couple of weeks during winter, we get snow where I live but this is the next level and Shinhotaka Ropeway was absolutely stunning, I was in total awe of the beauty and spectacular scenery, if you ever get a chance I thoroughly recommend this excursion, if breath-taking beautiful scenery is your thing the this is for you, word of warning though if you do go during winter I strongly recommend plenty of warm clothes as the day we were there it was -13 degrees and if you can, invest in a pair of ice spikes that attach to the soles of your shoes and just gives you more balance and confidence walking on icy surfaces- not expensive.

Love it, gorgeous views at the observatory deck and you can choose to hike down. They sell lots of cold weather gear and camping stuff within their stores as well. Cable car was made of two stacked on top of each other fits up to 45 pax, was an interesting sight. About an hour and a half by bus from takayama station so will only be a half day trip out but definitely worth it :)

Enjoyable cablecar ride to the Nishihotaka observation deck. If you're traveling by car, park in the Nabedaira parking lot, it will save you the cost of the cablecar to the second station.

breathtaking view during winter! not very crowded and the journey was very smooth~ there were 2 ropeways, take both ropeways to reach the highest altitude! the total duration of the 2 rides is about 25 minutes. there is a restaurant at the highest station.

Went 2nd week of March 2023 and you can still see snow. One of the best ropeways Ive gone to. The view from the bus on the way to the attraction is well worth it already. It is a bit pricey though at 70$A (bus + ropeway return which u can purchase from Takayama bus station and not covered by jrpass.)

The entire experience in taking the cable car is easy and smooth. It is not too crowded with tourists even during weekend. Visitors are rewarded with a stunning view of the snow-capped mountains at the top. Take a coffee break at the bakery on the second base station, they have nice pastries, in particular the sweet potato puff is very good.
