Excellent Ethiopian food, in a nicely decorated, cozy space. The owner was wonderful and so attentive to us throughout the meal. My wife and I shared the meat and vegetarian combos, which was more food than we could eat. The house made mead (honey wine) was delicious, and just the right sweetness. To top off the meal we were served complimentary tea. The meal was a wonderful experience.

This was by far the best Ethiopian food I have had. The injera was soft and the taste fantastic. We had the 4 meat and 4 veg platter it was really good. The meats were well spiced and the veggies complemented the flavor from the meats. We also had the veggie sembusa which had an amazing sauce. The service was very friendly and prompt. Would come back next time I in the area.

The food was absolutely incredible! We ordered the lamb tibs and the veggie sampler plate and it was some of the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had. The owners are also wonderfully friendly and kind! Would highly recommend!

Ordered delivery because I was craving Ethiopian food. Hadn't had any since before the pandemic. The veggie combo was delicious!! So much food for a great price and packaged perfectly. Came with a lentil sambusa and lots of injera. Highly recommend. Will be ordering again soon.

This was the first place I got takeout from when I moved to DC. The owners were so welcoming and kind and you can see how proud they are of their lovely restaurant. It’s a very clean and comforting place with amazing artwork on the walls. The food is absolutely amazing! It’s so full of flavor and vibrant color. Every time I come here I always want to keep eating because the food is so good even when I’m already full. My absolute favorite thing to get here is the lentil sambusa, as well as the Doro Wat and the Veggie Combo! I can’t recommend this place enough it’s an absolute gem!

Just discovered this place after growing tired of my regular Ethiopian spot near me. The food here is GREAT. A lot more flavor, larger portions, and just better overall. Will definitely be ordering here more often!

This restaurant is amazing! The food is delicious, the service is quick, and the ambience is relaxing. The people who served us are so friendly and lovely as well. I would recommend the veggie combo; it's a great way to try the various vegetarian options. The sambusas are delicious as well and a must try!

The food is amazing! We got the fish cutlet, veggie platter, and key wot, all of which were delicious. Everything is beautifully spiced with great depth of flavor. The spiced tea is also a hidden gem, highly recommend. The family is so sweet and attentive, they gave complimentary sambusas and contributed to an incredibly welcoming atmosphere.

The food was delicious and portions were generous. Our server really went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed/desired. The meat combo and veggie combo on top of injera could easily feed 2-4 people. The lentil sambusas are wonderful! Enjoy a tea after your meal. Ethiopian music videos on the TV add an element of fun to the atmosphere and had us dancing in our seats. There is parking around the corner and they take cash & cards. We will be back!

We arrived around 7:32pm and they close at 8pm. They were so friendly, took our order and seated us. As we were waiting another frequent customer was eating and offered my daughter some of his food! We are now leaving at 8:52pm as I write this review. It’s also extremely convenient to my home and I would recommend it highly. And of course the food was fresh, large portion, and delicious. In the picture, is two of the veggie option (VEGAN)

We got the 7-item veggie platter and steamed fish and it was all wonderfully put together with great flavors. The fish was seasoned very nicely - good spiciness level and complemented the veggie items very well. We followed up the meal with an Ethiopian coffee which was enjoyable. Overall it was a very delicious meal and a great experience, and will definitely be visiting again.

Family owned business. The sauces that the meat combo was cooked in were delicious. Between the two of us we ordered the lentil sambosa and meat combo. Plenty of food for us. Be prepared to eat with your hands! Staff was very friendly.

Great food, great service! This is the place for a delicious, unique dining experience with lots of variety and bold flavors. I recommend splitting the meat and vegetarian combo between two or three people.

This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and it was absolutely delicious! The spices and flavors were just so good, highly recommend! The place itself is quiet and clean and service was amazing. If you want to check somewhere new, this is it.

Shewa is my favorite neighborhood restaurant! When I moved to the H Street/Benning Road area, I immediately looked for a spot to become a regular at (you know how that goes). Having my go-to take out be homemade, healthy, Ethiopian cuisine was more than I could’ve asked for. The food is amazing, the owners are lovely, and I look forward to eating there every week! I love to support a Black/immigrant/Ethiopian-owned small business, especially for the quality and quantity of food! Definitely bank for your buck. 5 stars all around!

The Ethiopian food here is fresh and flavorful. The portions are great and the service is friendly. This is my second time patronizing this establishment and I’ve not been disappointed yet. If you like spicy food, they will make your dishes with extra kick. Delicious!

My girlfriend and I tried Ethiopian for the first time here while visiting DC! The food was delicious and the owner was extremely kind and friendly (he showed us how to properly eat some of the dishes!). The prices were great and I highly recommend it! I wish I lived closer to DC so I could go more often!

Found this place through DoorDash and I’m so glad I did. Food is delicious and portions are very generous! Generous portions have totally not been my experience with other Ethiopian places in the area.

Amazing service, great portion size, and homey ambiance at this small family owned restaurant. My group had the veggie and meat combos and everyone loved it. The staff was so friendly and kind. We'll be regulars - I'd give it another star if I could

Ordered via Uber Eats and it has a unique taste under all other Ethiopian restaurants - that is something good.

The food is VERY delicious! Today is my second time ordering this week. The woman who served me (I believe), the owner is very sweet. The food is filling (as she warned me) lol. I ordered the veggie platter on both occasions. The service and food is great- 5 stars! The only thing I do dislike (out of her control) is the area. There are frequent loiters outside near the restaurants building. I recieved a lot of constant and burdensome chatter coming from the men who were outside; & that was quite annoying (while heading inside to order my food and leaving out). Again, out of her control..

This is the perfect place to enjoy Ethiopian food. The owner and staff make you feel welcomed and comfortable. You can pick anything from the menu and feel confident that's it's going to be flavorful. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. It's always good to come eat here.

Really great Ethiopian food. I had lunch here today for the first time and absolutely loved it. I had a few sambusas and the Awaze Tibs, which were spicy and hot and delicious. The owner was very friendly and gracious as well. I will definitely return.

I was craving Ethiopian food. They have individual size plates so I was able to order just for myself. I got the meat combo (3 meats and a choice of two veggies). Ephrem is sooo super nice, I even got to try their samosa 💕 Thank you ☺️

Currently still sitting in this restaurant, RUN do not walk here! This food is absolutely, unbelievably delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness! The owner is the sweetest man ever, I truly feel like I just came to visit my aunt and uncle’s house that makes sure you are always fed. They are so warm and welcoming, I want to come back everyday! This was truly the best Ethiopian food I have had in my life! The lentil sambusas were so good, I didn’t have time to take a picture! We had the Shewa Meat Platter (as is), with the collard greens, spicy red lentils and yellow split peas, 10, 10, 10s across the board! Lastly, the spiced tea is a must have after a meal!

Delicious, authentic Ethiopian food... Very friendly owners, and reasonable prices. It's a bit of a rough area. There was a girl who seemed to be suffering some mental illness in addition to being drunk who targeted me to harass & threaten! The owner had to come chase her away several times. Despite that but of extra entertainment, I'll definitely be going back here for more Ethiopian food!

They’ve got great food and an even better customer service! The food is always so satisfying. That’s one of the reasons why we keep on coming back. They also have a really good attitude that’s very warm and welcoming. They make sure that we’re always taken care of. We definitely recommend you trying it for yourself. Thank you for always taking care of us! ❤️❤️❤️

I love Kitfo and this place has the best quality at the lowest price. I have stopped ordering Eithiopian from all other places because they are more expensive and not as tasty. Additionally, it's really convenient and exciting to have any restaurant on Benning that's not a carry out or fast food. I have always had exceptionally warm and friendly vibes when I visit.

Aww man felt like I came to peoples house to eat. First the hospitality phone dying and let me use their iPhone charger. On the house appetizer fried lentil roll (wish I knew the name) delicious! We ordered the meat combo and veggie combo in one plate and all of it was deliciously on point. The Injera was perfect the spiciness was what you want not to hot on the mouth but detox you from inside. And the coffee best cappuccino I’ve ever had in the states!!!!! Will be back like terminator again and again…

Delicious food and amazing service. The only alcohol they serve is a homebrewed wine, made by the owners mother I believe, and it's delicious. We will definitely be returning!
