This place really surprised me. At first I thought it would be another trendy and slightly overpriced spots with ok food - you know the ones with $3 tiny tacos with barely a handful of filling that falls apart because the tortilla is too delicate to fulfill it's basic duties? But the butternut squash taco I ordered was unique (with spicy crema, and mint), delicious, *and* substantial. The potato and black bean tostada I ordered was like a double decker tostada (?). It had two layers of of everything, including the tortilla (one soggy and one crunchy - best of both worlds). I was genuinely too full to finish just those two items. Hope this place does well, I will definitely be going back to try other stuff.

Stopped in for a quick dinner and really enjoyed our meal. Not a big menu but all the options appealed so still hard to choose. Tried tacos, enchiladas, nachos and kale salad. Braised mushroom in the tacos and enchiladas was my favourite. Sweet potato nachos were also great. Generous servings and all freshly prepared to order by the friendly staff.

Looking for a fulfilling vegetarian/vegan meal? This is definitely the place! I enjoyed the potato tacos and their pineapple sierra cocktail definitely had a kick! Wasn’t a fan of the tortillas, they might’ve tasted better if warmed or toasted. Nicely decorated restaurant, perfect for pictures. They are currently cashless with a self help ordering kiosk.

These are some of the best tacos I’ve ever had! The best one was the creamy potato and kale. The texture of the potato was amazing and the sauce was delicious. We also ordered the mushroom enchilada which was pretty good, and the sweet potato nachos. The nachos are a lot of food for the price and they’re delicious! We got the hibiscus tea and it’s super refreshing and not too sweet. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the tacos!

Now this is the vegetarian restaurant I've been searching for. Simple yet creative, delicious and reasonably priced. Cozy layout and the focus on sustainability (everything is compostable) is a big plus.

As a vegetarian who lives nearby, I'm so happy to have Chaia around. Everything here is fresh and delicious. My meat-eating partner is also a big fan, so don't think you have to be a vegan or vegetarian to appreciate Chaia. I particularly like their braised mushroom taco, black bean enchilada, and their soups (which change with the seasons), but you really can't go wrong. Oh and the sweet potato nachos are wonderful too with generous portions. And their margarita is good and well priced. I keep wanting to go on, but long story short, go to Chaia and you won't regret it.

I can't recall exactly what I ordered, but trust me, it was delicious. This restaurant is not only aesthetically pleasing but also impeccably clean. The staff was incredibly friendly, the service was quick, and as I mentioned earlier, the food was simply outstanding. Opting to dine outside was a great choice, especially on such a beautiful day in DC.

Although there are many places to grab a bite in Chinatown, Chaia Tacos not only has delicious and reasonable priced menu options but they have amazing customer service. I’m always greeted with a genuine smile. The wait time for your meal is extremely short. Hands down the best eatery in Chinatown.

The food here is amazing! I highly recommend the kale/potato taco. It is hard to find good Mexican food in DC, let alone vegetarian. This is the place.

4.5* - I had the trio of tacos, and they were satisfying. Ordering by yourself on their kiosk was simple and quick. Not really any service to speak of, but food pick up was simple and the place was clean and comfortable.

Great food, ambiance, and service. These were some of the best tacos we’ve had. The flavor combinations were so creative and tasty. Most of the tacos can be made vegan and everything is vegetarian. Highly recommend for a quick, tasty lunch.

Amazing, flavorful food, warm ambiance and excellent service. If I didn't know it was plant based, I wouldn't have believed it. Wish the food had lasted long enough for me to take photos of it! Get the mushroom enchilada, it's amazing. Thanks to Meredith for an amazing dining experience!!!

Delicious! The best vegan versions are the smoked collard green and sweet potato taco. No cheese needed. These are yummy.

This was my first time visiting with friends. The food was great and the space is beautiful! We were greeted right away by Meredith, and she took great care to provide the best service while we were there. It was raining hard and she even assured us that we didn’t have to rush to leave although it was nearing closing time. I will definitely return and spread the word about my great experience.

Really, really delicious veggie tacos. You can tell from the flavor and texture that the tortillas are homemade. I had the creamy kale and potato taco on my first try, and want to go back to try more. The iced hibiscus tea is tasty and very refreshing. Very clean and welcoming environment.

Delicious sweet potato leek soup...creamy and semi-thick and savory. Best soup I've had in awhile. Vegan tacos were amazing. The collards were delicious. The mushrooms well cooked and seasoned. The sweet potatoe could use some of the jalapeno sauce but the pickled onion was excellent. Ambiance and decor is soothing, grounding, upbeat. Lovely space to eat, read, work. 💕😊💯

This is an interesting vegetarian taco spot. The tacos had interesting flavors. At first I assumed they would be pretty traditional just minus the meat but all the tacos strongly featured one vegetable or another in a unique way. The mushroom tacos were my favorite. I thought the sweet potato ones were good and the asparagus only so-so. Chaia Chinatown is worth going to just to check out the interesting flavors. On the other hand it just wasn't as good as better taco places that use meat. I wouldn't go here all the time but it's one of the more interesting restuarants in the neighborhood.

Such good tacos. The summer menu is my favorite!! The asparagus taco is next level. Also the nachos are next level. Such a fun vibe and the service has always been good. I accidentally ordered a pickup order from the wrong location today which sucked but overall this place is fantastic.

INCREDIBLE food! They make their own corn tortillas, everything is organic and fresh and totally delicious. They have a lot of vegan options and everything is gluten free. Meredith did a great job helping us out and had great customer service. Truly a great place to eat and good environment for meeting with people.

We ordered ahead online and our food was ready earlier than expected, which was great since we were on our way to a concert. Food was delicious but I gave 4 stars for food because the desserts were a bit small. Nice decor with Thursday live plants and I appreciated the water station.

THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Their vegan braised mushroom enchilada and the vegan taco trio are SO GOOD!!! 10/10. The vegan cheese is also so unimaginabley delicious.

Delicious tacos and drinks. All can be made vegan or vegan cheese or no cheese at all, which were options on the screen to order. Nice places to sit inside with modern and spacious decor.

Got the double tacos of creamy kale & potato, which is my favorite! They are filling and the tortillas are delicious. The place is clean and welcoming. No real service as you order at a kiosk, quick food after you order.

This place is amazing!!! Great unique flavor combinations and plenty of options for everyone to try. It was like a flavor fusion that wakes up your taste buds! Yes, it is a vegetarian restaurant, but after eating on consecutive nights one of our family members who does eat meat said "I forgot it was vegetarian it was so good!" They also do not have gluten if you have allergies or are looking to cut it out of your diet. I would HIGHLY recommend you try this place, even if it means a short walk or Metro ride. Food is great, staff are friendly because it is one of a kind you won't be upset that you did!

My first visit to Chaia Chinatown this afternoon won’t be my last. I was able to efficiently order my meal, and it was ready in a timely fashion. The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly. I ordered a single scrambled egg black bean taco and farm tostada with hot green tea. I requested extra pickled red cabbage and the staff certainly delivered. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful - I would definitely reorder these items again. I especially love the jalapeño sauce on the tostada. Highly recommend Chaia to others!
