Decided to check this park out and we were not disappointed. How is this vast green space right in our back yard? The website said 30+ miles of trials. We walked one of the roads closed off to vehicle traffic for a bit and took some of the trails as well. There were a lot of people walking, riding bikes and enjoying the outdoors, yet it didn’t seem crowded. Recommend planning your route in advance or having a trail app to help you out. Plenty of spaces to bring a picnic lunch or camp out along the water. Parking was a challenge. The parking lots fill up early. We ended up parking on the street near one of the embassies. If you look on the map, you will be able to see various parking options. Street parking worked for us so keep that option in mind too. If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?

Rock Creek Park in DC is an absolute treasure! 🌳🌲🏞️ A haven for nature lovers, it offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The winding trails are perfect for hiking and biking, and the lush greenery provides a serene setting for picnics and relaxation. The creek adds a soothing touch to the surroundings, and the wildlife sightings make it a true delight for all ages. The historical landmarks like Pierce Mill and Peirce-Klingle Mansion add an extra layer of fascination. A definite 5-star rating for this urban oasis that never fails to rejuvenate the soul! 🦌🌿 #RockCreekPark #NatureInDC #HikingTrails #UrbanOasis #WildlifeEncounters #HistoricalLandmarks #FiveStarExperience"

Great picnic areas. Spacious and clean spaces. Bathrooms were relatively clean for a park. No funky smell, well lit, and ac controlled. Kayaking, pedal boat, and row boat available on the lake. Playgrounds are really nice. Home/bike trail available too.

Explored a brief sliver of this park today, cannot believe such a beautiful, quiet and well-kept green space is so easily accessible. The most noticeable part is without a doubt the pretty creek running through the heart of the park. I stuck pretty much to it all through but the park is also spread out to the east and west (for next time). I saw about 12 different types of birds, expert regulars have identified over a hundred or so I hear. The entrance to the place is only 15 minutes from nearest red line metro stations. There is a bike trail hugging the creek as well. Certainly biking here next time.

Absolutely beautiful. Just moved to a new place near 16th st right at the entrance of a closed street entering rock creek park and its so lovely walking, jogging or biking in there...I am a Washingtonian but I never lived this close to the park.

Such an incredible place to destress and get away from the world on a Sunday morning. 🌱 Hiking at Rock Creek Park isn’t that steep, it’s actually great for beginners like me. 💯 I started my journey by taking the Reservation 630 Trail, then I went on to the Western Ridge Trail, and ended on the Valley Trail. I also passed by Boulder Bridge and Rapid’s Bridge on the way. My full journey lasted around 3 hours (8 - 11 am). All I took with me on the hike was a large water thermos, a protein bar, and some rice crackers. If you’re into biking, this park has the perfect biking AND running trails. They’re far away from people who prefer hiking on foot. I believe some areas are also pet-friendly. 🐶 I highly, highly recommend visiting the park! The scenery is just mesmerizing. ♥️🏞

A jewel in the heart of DC. A great escape from the city within the city. Great for biking, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, golfing, and more. I'm so grateful to live 5 minutes from Rock Creek for the past 25 years.

Beautiful park, quite vast so you won't run out of trails to trek on or areas to go. I enjoyed it and would certainly come back to see more of the area.

Absolutely gem of a place! The trails are well defined and the weather is chilly as compared to city. Recommend this place for morning runs or walks and dog-walks or just getting away from city hustle. Extremely quiet and satisfying. Also has a small water body flowing by - nothing too great but good enough during most times of year

Awesome park with multiple trails . We found parking at the pierce mills. The restroom are clean. Walked towards the east of the pierce mills , we will cross the little dam with waterfalls & took a trail across the crossing. Almost a 1.5 mile walk , we got to see the overlook bridge & we took another trail way back & in between walked on the western ridge trail & reached the horse arena. The trails are so calm & not at all crowded. Social distancing is maintained. Across the trails & near the pierce mills .. there are ample options to set up picnics. I saw many people friends & families who have set up hammocks on the trees & were reading books & some were doing yoga. Such a pleasant site all across the park , beautiful scenic spots with water on the side. We would definitely revisit the park atleast once a month. There is lot to explore in the park.

Rock Creek Park is an underappreciated DC treasure. It's lousy with wildlife. It's tranquil. And it's nearby. Rock Creek has a nature center, hiking trails, and picnic areas, some with pavilions. Some of the roadways are closed to motor vehicles. Please do not feed the ducks; it violated Park Service rules, and it's harmful to the ducks, besides.

We came here between mid to the end of Oct, and there were already some early fall foliage showing up. When the weather is good, the traffic might take quite a while to go in / get out of this area. Both walking or biking works in the trail. It’s a pretty nice park in general. One of DC's most overlooked gems. Especially in the autumn, Rock Creek Park is just unbelievable. Plenty of hiking and biking paths, picnic areas, and vistas to cover whatever kind of park experience is desired. So grateful to live so nearby.

(Photos are from October) We visited this lovely place in October and went for a walk with our dogs through the "Boulder Bridge Loop." While we enjoyed the scenery and fresh air, we noticed that some people had left litter on the trail. So, we took a small trash bag with us and cleaned up the area. On weekends, the place can be a bit crowded with people. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant experience overall.

Shout out to the dedicated staff of Rock Creek Park keeping the park welcoming to us (walkers, runners, cyclists and trail hikers) even after thunderstorms. Especially as it relates to those of us that go early in the morning, restrooms are always open functional and clean.

One of my favorite parks on the east coast. I feel as though this park is very dynamic. Many different routes you can choose, short or long. There’s historical sights throughout, picnic areas and a Zoo. Not to mention the activities Horseback riding Golfing Tennis courts Kayaking Biking Hiking Jogging And more. My point is, this park offers something for everyone. If you’re visiting the area this is a great place to venture out to before the museums open up. If you are visiting, the zoo is free. I do believe you do have to reserve a spot online but I could be mistaken. A good hiking trail would be Southern Loop via Western Ridge Trail, Rock Creek, ValleyTrail.

One of my favorite parks in the DMV area. I've never had issues with parking and it's not as congested on the weekend as many other parks. The scenery is beautiful and I've never noticed any trash or water bottles lying around anywhere throughout the short time I've been coming here. It's a nice way to escape the feeling of being in DC without actually leaving DC.

Definitely a gem and highlight of life in the District. Beautiful all year (pictures are from different seasons last year), dog friendly, and has a good selection of picnic tables, historical sites, paved pathways, and hiking trails. Be sure to get there early because it does get busy, especially while the most of the city was closed down. Twice the size of NYC’s Central Park, with access from the NW residential areas and even the downtown DuPont Circle area. From nps.gov, “1,754 acre city park was officially authorized in 1890, making it the third national park to be designated by the federal government.”

If you want to be close to nature with out driving to country side and you live in DC, just go to Rock Creek. Especially North of The Zoo and south of Military Road. If you want avoid the crowd go there Monday through Thursday.

Beautiful paved trails. Wooded trails that were by the creek. It wasn’t the clearest which direction to go to stay in the main wooded region because there weren’t easily accessible or visualized signs with route maps. But lots of ground to discover.

Beautiful, clean, safe. Really enjoyed our mini hike. I was so mesmerized by the beauty of the colored leaves and birds' sounds that I didn't even think of taking photos. This photo doesn't do it justice but that's the only one I took. Fall was definitely a good season to visit. Hope to go back in spring.

10 degrees cooler than the rest of dc, it’s a great place to explore the different trails on a hot day. The horseback riding is pretty cool too

  • 4/5 Sandy R. 2 years ago on Google
A pretty park with rolling hills and several different areas to explore. Note nature center is closed and there are only outhouses to use. Also check website for updates on road closures and construction areas. October 12, 2021 not many trees have fall colors yet, but many nuts, acorns etc. are falling and cover paths. Some steps on trails are high and you may need to walk around the side of them.

Always a pleasant spot to enjoy nature in the heart of metropolis. Our little pup made some new friends as well. Very clean and well kept. Loved the horseback riding as a child, so glad to see the stables still active. A place everyone in DC should visit at least once while living here.

A fine park within D.C., like a natural getaway to the urban surroundings. We rented a bike from a public bike share and enjoyed a bike ride on a paved trail and along Rock Creek. We didn’t see any restrooms on our trip, so do be prepared.

This is by far the worst park, I've ever been to located in a good city. It absolutely doesn't meet any standards of National Park. It is as if it was abandoned yet it is super busy than you can even imagine. The water facets do not function at at all and some broke as you can see in the picture. There is no way, I would recommend this park to anyone unless you are hiking or taking a trail and do expect or plan on using the park's services such as the bathrooms or parking.

  • 4/5 Julianne B. 1 year ago on Google
I went to the 636 reserve trail (not sure if that's exactly right) but it was stunning. It's a moderately intense hike, unpaved and you have to cross some small streams that don't have bridges so you're hopping across stones- be careful. I wish they had a more reliable way to cross without slipping or getting your shoes wet. Besides that it was well maintained, very little litter. I love that it's dog friendly. And I passed by a picnic area that was very cute and also very well maintained. There are also more and less-intense trails i can't wait to check out too. I'll definitely be back for more.

Green respite in the midst of an urban area. The south end has less dense forest but is quieter. The north end has denser trees, but I could hear more traffic. I hiked up Western Ridge and back on Valley Trail. Nature center is small, and the planetarium was closed when I was there.

  • 5/5 Mass T. 1 year ago on Google
Rock Creek has something for everyone. Saw a bald eagle fly just yards over my head during the winter. Birds of all kinds. Turtles having a great time in the sun. Trails that can take you away from the city in a moments notice. Sadly, lots of people use the trails with no courtesy. Even with their rudeness, it’s still a good time. Find your little special place and visit often.

Mild 56° to explore a bit of Rock Creek Park. Had so much fun walking on the Nature Trail which is a paved road blocked off from cars. Super pretty even with little vegetation. Will definitely come back to explore more. Only managed a 1 hour in and out.

Last year when I first visit Rock creek,I thought it was just okie, trails a little messy after raining. I revisited it this early NoV , fall foliage and view along the Beach Drive really enjoyable. I would recommend end of Oct and Nov is the most beautiful season to visit Rock Creek.

My friends and I were visiting Washington and accidentally stumbled upon this park and it was a great place to visit. The fall scenery is beautiful and the sound of the stream is relaxing. And it's really a great place for sketching! You can find stunning compositions here at any time. The beauty of the scenery here doesn't even require any artistry. The air is fantastic and it's a great place to go if you want to run or do a hike. And along the road we found a lot of mushrooms, so if you like picking mushrooms, come here.
