This ice ring has incredible atmosphere for so many years already, shares so many stories from generation to generation. These kind of places needs to be cherished and protected. My mom couldn’t skate at all, you can rent a special equipment to help you get moving. It is amazing, she was skating two hours later on her own and was so happy. The air, people skating around have so much happiness and joy in their moves and actions. This is a happy place which gives you energy and motivation.

Fantastic place to go with friends. Kazakhs love it! It is probably the highest ice skating rink in the world. Loved being there 💖

Loved walking the stairs up to the view point! Hiked down the trails back to the base and took the bus home. We didn't go to the ski area. Take bus number 12 to the terminal station. It ends, you get off! Sun is strong up there, be ready.

Absolutely gorgeous ice skating rink that you should stay away from at peak hours/days. Otherwise you gonna end up waiting forever in a queue with no WC available in vicinity. You can't get inside without purchasing a ticket at two tiny kiosks that are positioned across from each other and result in absolute mess of a crowd. This great place definitely lacks proper management and tourist infrastructure like a proper freaking parking lot. People just park in front of the main entrance by the side of the road resulting in total chaos of pedestrians trying to get in, cars trying to park or move out and other vehicles trying to pass through.

Medeu, Almaty, is an exhilarating destination! The world's highest ice skating rink offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Whether you're a professional skater or a first-timer, the experience is unforgettable. The pristine ice, picturesque setting, and friendly atmosphere make it a must-visit attraction for any traveler in Almaty!

Beautiful landscapes. A perfect place to relax and enjoy the freshness of the wind blowing from the mountains, connect with the nature and have a small break from the city heat. A perfect place for hiking, Ice-skating. There is also Shymbullak resort for those who enjoys skiing or snowboarding. It will take around 30- 40 minutes to get there with the bus from the city which will cost less than 1 $ (1€). The taxi and car-sharing services are also possible.

Great place and affordable prices. But keep in mind that you have to pay for entrance AND pay for ice skates rent separately. During covid-19 pandemic you have to buy tickets online ONLY. And one session lasts for only 3 hours.

We were at the championship on motorcycle ice racing in the alpine complex Medeo. It was all at the highest level, I liked everything. How wonderful that such events are held in our city.

For the view alone i love and will always love this place. The skating is obviously done in season. Was here for a house music festival headlined by Steve Aoki. Dont think any other venue would have fitted all of us better.

A small review for the tourist coming here: it's 100% a must see when you are in Almaty! But if you come here to ice skate and you are not able to bring your own ice skates, be aware that the ice skates they rent here are cheap but in very poor quality. As somebody from Holland and who's kinda used to well maintained skates, this was kind of a let down. On top of that, the maintenance of the ring takes so long that you get kicked out of the stadium when it happens. So be aware that at certain times (it was around 12 when it happened to me) you might be kicked off of the ring. They only do the announcements of this maintenance in Russian and Kazak, not in English, so it might feel like it comes out of the blue if you dont speak any of these languages. On the other hand, the staff here is super friendly and most of them are able to speak English.

It's ok in late August, but nothing really exciting. Much better in winter when open air skating rink is open

Sports complex in one of the high altitude located about 1691 m above the sea level. Ice rink is the best part. Above which is Shamboolak ski resort. Going up by a eco taxi or rope way is a nice experience to be.

The whole arena is so good. It took us some time to enter there as I Went there after new year. We rented the skating shoes from there and they also had a space where you could store your personal belongings. We went there at night and it was so good. It's between the mountains so views are always good. They have a Rafaelo house in the middle where you can get tea and chocolate for free. Overall a beautiful place to do ice skating.

Things need to be more organized. The place is neat and well maintained but People gotta pay attention more to details and organization skills. Price is relatively cheap The atmosphere is good. I wish there is som people hired to teach how to ski. I waited about an hour to enter the place. People broke the line and entered from outside the queue. Over all it’s nice place but not perfect

Tourist Cafe near Medeu is good to enjoy coffee with waterstream view. Easy to access from Almaty with Bus no.12 or by Cab. Many hikes starts from Medeu. People mostly do visit stairs top to capture snow capped mountains views of Shymbulak . There is option of visiting Shymbulak by cable car starts from Medeu.

Great place to skate highly recommend renting skates elsewhere as the skates at medeu aren't great. And there is normally long line. During the morning there was long line waited about 20-30 minutes. Highly recommend getting your tickets ahead of time to avoid the wait.

Medeо. Must visit place in Almaty. In winter it is interesting to come to Medeo late evening time. At 9-12 p.m. No traffic in city, few people on Medeo and real winter fairytale in the mountains. Yesterday, on January 5th I visited it by 1 a.m. It was raining in the city (last photo) but snowing in the mountains and it was amazing. Staircase to the dam was fully lit and covered with fresh snow. I was the first one to stand on it that day. Please note, staircase is almost 1000 steps. From parking lot it is about 1 kilometer walking uphill. Hiking shoes with good grip needed. It can be slippery. There are some very interesting not widely known places around Medeo where you will be almost alone. I can show you these locations. Go with me to Medeo/Shymbulak tour.

Beautiful. If you get the bus make sure when you pay to get a ticket... Don't take no for an answer. Two inspectors tried to throw me off the bus despite me paying the driver. He had pocketed the cash and told them I hadn't paid. I refused to get off. A nice Kazakh gentleman tried explaining but they refused to accept his support. In the end he used his card to get me a ticket despite me already paying. Be warned.... Demand your bus ticket from the drivers on number 12 and number 92.... Inspectors - Please stop hassling tourists and report the drivers who don't issue tickets. Thank you.

Nice view and a walk for the city, but a bit overrated if you like to do hikes. I think it is more important for locals, especially if you are in the sports than for visitors. If I would have ride a racer bike, it would have been 5 star, just for the climb!

The place is slowly developed throughout years. Recently new electronic tickets and access system has been set up, which really helps to eliminate the queue on the entry.

Medeu is my favourite place in Almaty. Going and hiking there is one of my hobbies. Recommend you to going up the steps and walking a little further and having breakfast in the “Gorelnik” while admiring the beautiful view of nature. If you don’t wanna go up with stairs you can walk along the path or by a cable cars. There are usually a lot of people. Because of that it is better to go in the morning.

Must to visit place. But ice-skates on downstairs is less comfortable than on upstairs, and more expensive. They have storage room on downstairs and it's about 600tenge. Skates 2500, entrance about 2000-3000 tenge.

Growing up from a 2 season country, Medeo is a must to visit when in Almaty. Learning or trying how to skate is also a very good experience to learn eapecially that this is not expensive experience after all. The place is also big so there's less chance that you can hurt someone by bumping into them. It is very accessible by bus for 150tenge. You should not miss this out.

I know Medeu from my childhood. This place was rennovated and now its a beatiful skating (winter) / roller skating (summer) huge stadium. However its not only limited to the stadium. Its a beautiful place in the mountain. Its located few hundred meters to the highest damb in the region. Its a start of multiple hiking / trekking routes across Almaty mountains. Its few hundred meters above the lift to the mountains (Shimbulak). Its historical place, must see if you visit Almaty.
