Was expecting more and should of done more research but if you do , avoid this place , waiters and front staff are great and the setting however , the chef and them serving uncooked chicken and insisting ' that's how it is ' I'm sorry but raw chicken is raw chicken in any country. Avoid. The undercooked dish was removed from the bill however lack of remorse and customer consideration is the reason for this review. Go elsewhere

The menus shown on google maps are probably old, and doesn’t reflect the prices that you can find in this place. This place is the most expensive of Raekoja Plats, and the quality of the food is not so good in my opinion. I’ve paid 40 euros for a single chicken skewer that was not so good and 2 glasses of basic white wine. In my opinion is not worth it!

Very bad service and very rude staff. The white wine was hot. The food was mediocre. One of the most dirty toilets I have seen.

Most definitely would not recommend this place. It is an absolute rip off and the service was appalling. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the food wasn't that bad. We ordered a starter and two mains. My main arrived 35 mins after we ordered even though there were only 3 other tables there. My partner's main came when I was almost done eating and the starter came at the end so we basically had garlic bread for dessert. The food had been microwaved, we could hear it going right before they served us. The city is really small so you can definitely just walk an extra 5 to 10 mins and find anything better than this

Very disappointed Don’t recommend this place at all. Service very slow, kids working as servers, food looked good, my steak was like chewing a shoe. I asked for chicken instead of my steak. The check was eatable.

We had an amazing meal - honey beer, we shared the meat for 2 which had awesome ribs, lamb chops, and chicken on it. We also got a size of potatoes which had such great dipping sauce. The mozzarella cheese bites were out of this world!!! We sat under blankets while eating inside to get warm from the snow. The waitress was incredibly adorable and sweet and dressed in medieval attire. It’s pricey, but it’s in the center of town square that’s to be expected. It was PLENTY of food for us, as we couldn’t even finish all of it.

As no zero star is possible. We waited 45 mins for the order to be taken and then atleast another 45 mins of wait and we didn't even get our drinks served. Do not recommend going here.

Im used to dining in restaurant, and first of all i thought it’s expensive, but when i got my food…. It was unexpected, flavorful, nothing was overcooked, everything was fresh, even salad it was like just harvested! Waiter was awesome, gave enough time to think, came and checked on us (not like they have to do it but he honestly was curious if we having grate time) we were 5, and all liked and would recommend to others, one of the best places i had fro baltic countryside 💯💯

Sitting here and having some Estonia local food or some drinks with friends is just a joy especially in the summer! The service is good , and the prices is not expensive. Worth trying!

Visited Old Estonia two nights ago, in a group of 9 persons. I have always tried to avoid restaurans around Town Hall Square, since they seem to be just expensive tourist traps. This time it was cold and we really needed warm drinks. Others had gluhweins etc, which cost 12-14 euros each. Me and my partner had mint cocoas (hot chocolate with some mint liqueur), which cost 2x24=48 euros. Ordered and paid by the counter, payment after drinking. Paying double/triple amount of reasonable price made me feel stupid and frustrated. Stay away from this place!

After a long morning of walking, my friend and I wanted to stop and have a hot meal. The restaurant looked warm and inviting; however, there was lots of dust. The waitstaff was welcoming. I noticed that other guests didn’t stay to eat and didn’t think much of it at first. But when I went to use the restroom, I noticed how dirty it was and the stacks of dirty dishes in the staff wait area. I’m sure this drove off potential customers from ordering meals. Unfortunately, we had already ordered and eaten our food. My meat soup was a bit watery and not flavorful. My friend ordered a traditional Estonian fish sandwich, and it was quite salty. Overall, I’d recommend going somewhere else.

Absolutely the worst ribs I've ever had. Chewy, almost undercooked meat. Cannot recommend eating here. Very expensive place in all categories but does not deliver. Service was good.

I have no idea about the food as we only had weiss beer. The staff was nice and friendly. The prices were reasonable, and we enjoyed a good view of the square.

Terribly unimpressive food, overpriced and the service was appalling. The boar was extremely dull and the so-called house lemonade tasted like a melted ice lolly. The waitress even tried to trick us into paying for an extra dish. Would not recommend to anyone.

The food is excellent. I liked the Sauerkraut the most. Staff was friendly and kind. They speak Englisch perfectly. Good place to go.

Charging 9 EUR for a BEER should be considered asna crime 🤦‍♂️ Generally super expensive, not worth the money. Staff didn't react when other guests were using their smartphones and tablets loudly

This restaurant fell short of expectations. We were initially drawn in by the authentic Traditional Estonian cuisine they had on offer and were keen to try it. The sales pitch by a staff member to eat there was off-putting to us but we probably would have eaten there without it. None of the traditional appetizer offerings appealed to us, so we had the tempura prawns and they were quite good. For the main I had sausage with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. When the food arrived it was unappealing in both presentation and taste and was lukewarm at best. The sausage was literally a pile of fat-heavy ground beef and other meat spilling out of a sausage casing (it looked nothing like the photos which showed fried slices of sausage). I had to bury the taste of it with the cranberry compote that was to complement the dish. The sauerkraut was not really what I was expecting either. It was unlike any other sauerkraut I have had previously as far as taste went. It's difficult to do mashed potatoes wrong but they were, even though they had a lot of butter with a sprinkle of dill, they were grainy and bland. The front end staff worked hard to please the guests. I don't typically give bad reviews but the quality of the food was far below the price we paid.

Touristically overpriced and I didn’t like my soup at all - just cabbage and a small sad piece of ham, no taste

Highly recommend! Old Estonia is a restaurant that left a lasting impression on me. The menu showcases a delightful array of dishes, each prepared with utmost care. The flavors were authentic and the portion sizes were generous. The staff's professionalism and hospitality made me feel like a valued guest throughout my meal. The restaurant's location provides a delightful view of the surrounding historic buildings, adding to the overall enchantment.

Aivan luokaton suoritus.

Very high price for at best mediocre quality, I guess you pay for the location. But that is not the thing that bothered us most, we asked for white wine and we got charged 8 euros per glass and regular black coffee was 4 bucks. We had a waiter who looked and acted like he did not enjoy working. Soup was okay though.

Quality did most definately not match the prices. Even the venue and utilities were pretty bad. Certainly compared to the other places around the area. Service was ok at most. Will not visit again for sure.

Nice place in Old Town at the square with amazing food. Really recommend taking the meat soup and garlic rye bread, it's amazing.

Location is good, but you will have to pay extra for that. There are other places nervy that are cheaper. The service was very slow, everything from getting the menu, taking the order and receiving the order took a long time even though the place wasn't very busy at all.

There are apparently two buildings serving for the same restaurant and I was in the one right next to Vanha cafe. The service was really good, good reception and the place is very neatly maintained. I went there just for a beer which was ok, although the beer costed little expensive compared to other places.

Amazing place, very good (although small) Estonian menu, nice service staff. You should try Vanna Tallinn (Estonian liqueur)! From here you can get real quick to all Central places in the old city.

Nothing special at all. Good location in the old town center, drinks are overpriced (they are event cheaper in Old Hanse), we didn't even look at food menu as we were heading towards to other place. We went there just because they had a guy catching tourist outside and inviting to restaurant. I believe they are surviving only from tourists who came there and never return :)

Delicious food, good service, this restaurant is great! It’s by the square so you know to expect higher prices, but overall very happy with it.

Food was ok, definitely not worth the price though. They claim to be a traditional Estonian restaurant, according to our local hosts they failed epicly. Also the service was slow and there were lot of delays and mistakes in the delivered food. The location is really beautiful and central, there are lot of better choices nearby. So avoid this one!

First, waiter mislead us, saying everything on menu is available. It was not, e.g. no elk steak for me. And that was sole reason why we chose this place. Then waitress was not sure of sides going with selected mains. Then we waited 45 minutes for food and it arrived without side dish. After 15 more minutes we paid for drinks and appetizers and left. Expensive, terrible. Totally no go.
