Beautiful open-air museum. Loads of old buildings, some set up to show how people used to lived there. There is an QR code by entrance to download the audio in English. We only had 2 hours there but could have spent longer. The only thing I would recommend is hiring a bike for €5

Beautiful area! Went there for midsummer night and the whole museum was turned into a small familial festival! The area I big enough to feel the nature and accessible by walk easily. Amazing to see how these old houses are build from 1900, really cute explained how they lived with nice stories and I could feel life there. People must be really small in these times. 😄😉 The night was well organised, delicious food, nice music and a big bonfire the whole night! Thank you for this amazing experience! 💚🔥🇪🇪

Located a short bus ride from the centre of town, this museum is a must visit in my opinion. The entrance fee is phenomenally cheap for the quality and variety of what's on show. I paid ten euros for a single adult ticket and spent around 4 hours exploring the living exhibits and scenery. The tavern was another highlight. Very cosy in the winter and the food was good and fairly priced. Very worthy of your time.

First time been here. its very unique place for learning their culture in the past. a lot of unique and ancient building you can enjoy inside and outside. see the interior, see their handcraft and see how they're used to be living in the past. Tried local coffee that was amazing. very amazing place to visit.

Best place to come during the world situation as it's open air but still get the museum and discovery opportunity. We celebrated a child's birthday party here with 3friends and were able to socially distance yet still have fun by sleighing on the hills, renting old timely sleighs and riding in a horse carriage looking at history .

When we came to the Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum, the first we saw was ticket office with gift shop in it. The gift shop is amazing and has so much to offer: clothes, jewellery, crockery, toys, books, music, and much much more. Also, they have coffee, ice-creams and various snacks. We were asked to show proof of COVID vaccination to be allowed to enter the place. The Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum area is large and there's possibility of riding bike to get to houses quicker. However, the houses are literally everywhere so you don't have to walk far to encounter the next one. We spent around 3h of walking minimum and got quite exhausted. However, we discovered only around 50% of places! The houses are from 18-20th centuries, and are preserved very well. They are full of character and are so lovely both outside and inside. Importantly, some houses have people dressed in traditional Estonian clothes who either do particular activity to recreate a scene from the past (e.g. read a book while looking after sheep, making horseshoe or knitting decorative ornaments). Other workers are there to tell you a story of particular house, e.g. how a family used particular house, how people decorated their house for an event, how kids were taught at school, etc. The houses had lots of old well-preserved furniture, machines, and other objects which tell a story about particular house and family. There's lots of houses such as homes, school, fire department, sauna, animal enclosure, specialised buildings for crafting something, etc. The area around the houses is also well thought of. When we were walking, we saw lots of native plants, berries and bushes. There's also things like benches, bridges, dog house, well, hay table, and others, all of which recreate atmosphere of old times. It is important to mention that this place has a nice cafe with Estonian food. I suspect the dishes are based on old recipes. It was very tasty and the table service is nice. Overall, this is a place worth visiting if you are interested in Estonian culture and/or 18-20th century. You can enjoy visiting it with kids because there's some fun activities for them, such as walking on "stork legs" or crafting decorations for the house. I definitely feel like this made my trip to Estonia very memorable, and I am very tempted to come again to explore the other half of Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum.

The open air museum of Estonia is very big and represents the history of the country. You can borrow a bike at the entrance for 3€ and once you return it you will get the money back. Strongly recommended to take the bicycle because the park is enormous and walking is very hard to see everything in only one day.

An excellent museum for an insight into the culture and lives, of thevarious peoples that make up Estonia. The restaurant inside the park, is most worthy.

I was absolutely blown away by the experience. The museum is a living history village that showcases the traditional way of life in Estonia from the 18th to the 20th century. As I walked through the village, I felt like I was transported back in time. The authentic buildings, costumed staff, and traditional crafts and activities really brought the past to life. I loved exploring the different houses and learning about the different trades and crafts that were practiced in each one. The staff were also incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer any questions I had. They really brought the history of the village to life and made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend the Estonian Open Air Museum. It's a truly unique and immersive experience that really gives you a sense of what life was like in Estonia in the past. It's a must-see for anyone interested in history or cultural traditions.

Beautifully sat in a big park, these former houses of 17th to 9th century show life, as it used to be. We really liked this place. Also, there is a restaurant in the middle of the park, where we enjoyed the food, with local dishes, freshly made and at very reasonable prices.

Awesome museum. We used Bolt ride to get there from the old town. We were there for almost three hours but only had time for a small part of the museum. There happened to be some sort of fair when we visited and the booths sold nice stuff. The restaurant in the museum is big and cozy. We’re definitely coming back again.

Incredible experience ! Estonian culture is rich and truly unique. Go there with an open mind free of any prejudices and let your curiosity be fed. The staff is really friendly. Not everyone speak english, of course, but those who do are really great at explaining. The staff is truly passionate so don't be afraid to ask a question. I've rented a bike as the place is big and it was totally worth it. Just dress according to the weather. Also, think about checking the programs online so that you can plan the most enjoyable experience !

I always enjoy visiting museums of this kind. And this is one of the best i've been to. It is located 7km from city centre (20-25min by bus or even better a nice ride on electric scooter). It takes 2-3 hours to walk the whole area. Ticket costs 10€ (summer price).

(Translated by Google) It’s okay, but it’s very big and gets a little heavy. It would be better if it was more interactive and / or with recreations of the scenes. 20 EUR for 3 people (2 adults 1 three-year-old) to enter this museum and when you walk through it there is nothing but old houses no place to go to the toilet for miles, and the Caffe is terrible 10 euro for two pieces of chicken and three thumb sized potato pieces. Terrible experience. Very low value for money.

Nice old native Estonian buildings. Mainly from Late 1800. Nice , beautiful and quiet environment, near the sea. Nice interactive activities and a lovely bar with some honest great local food. You can easily roam here for a few hours. Great place to visit.

I was positively surprised by the Estonian Open Air Museum! The park is very nice and all houses and buildings were carefully rebuilt and nicely maintained. It really gives a very good idea how was living in Estonia in the past. I surely will visit this place again.

Very good experience in this museum, interiors are very detailed, even with employees posing as inhabitants. You will really feel like in the village of old times. It is located on the bank of the sea and in forest, so it is also very quiet

We visited the museum during our summer vacation. We rented bikes for an affordable price and we discovered the beautiful old city by bike. Multiple houses can be visited inside as well. There is a restaurant inside the park with traditional food. We had chicken with vegetables and apple strudel with vanila ice cream. It was very delicious! The cashier from the museum did not know much English but we managed to understand each other and she was nice and polite.

Get an authentic feel of an old village where you have to walk at least half a kilometer to the nearest shop. A bit expensive for what you get, 12 eur per person or 24 for a family ticket. It's basically a proper forest where you can spend the day.

  • 5/5 Dana H. 1 year ago on Google
What a wonderful winter experience. The Open Air Museum is full of incredible history of Estonian's way of life and how families lived in the early days. There's so much to see, and a lot of interactive displays in the summer and winter, that you will want to return again and again.

This is a great outdoor display of historic buildings. It has a very nice gift store. We were on an excursion from our cruise ship and so had a limited time at the museum. I expected more of a living history display with people in period costumes, etc. We did have an excellent show of folk dancing, compete with period costumes, which was nice. I was pushing my wife in a wheelchair, and that was challenging at times on the gravel paths but we managed.

Unusual museum which shows an Estonian village, a lot of space feels like it the park. It was interesting to dive into a medieval atmosphere and explore how people used to live in that time. Great shop with a lot of souvenirs, drinks and ice-cream at the beginning of the park. Parking is for free if you visiting museum but it was a bit busy at the day when we're there.

  • 5/5 Oleksandr P. 8 months ago on Google
It was an interesting and unusual experience. We got to the festival of Estonian culture and it was very interesting. This is a huge park where you can get acquainted with the culture of Estonia from different times, find some beautiful places for photos, and most importantly, you don’t need to go to Holland to see a windmill) In general, this is a great theme eco park.

  • 5/5 Anna V. 8 months ago on Google
Absolutely in love with this museum! Definitely recommend visiting, and talking to "hostesses" of locations - these ladies will tell you interesting facts about the houses. We spent 5 hours in total, yet some locations were closed for visitors, so I guess it's even possible to spend the whole day there (especially taking into account they have both a tavern and a small stores with drinks in the way)

  • 5/5 Kharuna R. 9 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed this lively museum. There were some ladies who were just smiling but we came across one who kept explaining so many different games, lifestyles etc in estonian, french and german. We were really impressed. The houses are mostly of the same era so end of 19th century but still well maintained and very informative. Beautiful windmills as well. There is a nice small restaurant with good variety of food and they have clean bathrooms.

Visited in the winter where only five houses are open to visit, one of which is the restaurant. Some of the open houses are staffed by people in period costumes however they did not interact much with us - in fact it was a bit awkward at times! There are cats in some of the houses which we thought was lovely, but bear in mind if you have an allergy! The scenery was nice and it was easily accessible on public transport. As part of Tallinn Card it was included, but would not be worth €9 in the winter.

This museum is just amazing. It is a bit far from city center, BUT it is an advantage! The whole museum sits literally in a forest along the shoreline, so even if you take a walk there you will have amazing views. The houses and farms there are kept in excellent condition, and information on the tables tell interesting stories about people who lived in the farms. Museum workers in national costumes will tell you more, and they are so nice! We spent half a day there and did not see everything, so plan your trip. The place worth every minute!

I really liked the museum, all staff was nice and where they could speak English or Gemrn very informative for us, otherwise definitely tried their best, not their fault my Russian is rusty and Estonian non existing. All signs also in English. My favorite place was the inn and the school. Only reason that not all five stars given if that many houses were closed due to it being low season, a very understandable decision since we were on a Saturday and there weren't much more than 50 visitors all morning.
